In order to counter the effect of the low level curve, what I did was raise the levels a little bit, as well as introduce evolved stuff earlier. I updated Blue's roster to match the FRLG rematch, and I didn't touch Red at all aside from the levels.

Has the Pokedex been confirmed yet? It would be awesome if it were 1-3 gen. That means more trainers and wild pokemon! But I think the most would be 1-2 with the new evolutions.

Truth be told, even the latter would look awkward. It'd look like this:

So odds are, either evolutions will be restricted again like in FRLG, or we'll be able to have anything right off the bat like in DPP.

I really, really don't think the Johto region will have anything other than 1st and 2nd gen pokes in them. I want the 4th gen evolved forms of those guys to be present, but I dunno about that.

My buddy also has me convinced that if not throughout both regions using a PokeRadar or some such gear, there will be a minor new area (perhaps some of the sevii islands or something) that'll contain 3rd gen pokes.

Anyway. I fucking hope we can get our Ambipoms and Yanmegas in this remake, because Aipom and Yanma are worthless.

I'm not talking about wild Pokémon in Johto, as much as the ability to trade anything. Of course the wild Pokémon that are present will be roughly the same as in GSC.

Trading anything and obtainability are pretty different. I've no doubt in my mind that you can trade an Ambipom; actually evolving it without needing some alternate dex or something is a concern of mine, since being a "new" region, my first playthrough is going to be a legit one.

Do we have any information on the similarities between HG/SS and Yellow's Pokemon-following-you-around mechanic? A happiness system and events based on the happiness of your starter may be kind of fun.

Also, here's how I predict this will work.

- Beat the game normally once
- Get National Pokedex
- Explore Kanto, fight buffed up E4
- Go beat Red
- Unlocks the Crystal Events (Extremespeed Dratini as a gift from Claire, Catch Suicune, Ho-Oh, Lugia etc.
- 3rd and 4th gen Pokemon get, etc.

But this is just hopeful thinking.

G/S/C had it for me with some things I miss like traveling to Kanto, the bullet train and apricorns! I really want to see some new things like new pokes, maybe a different story. We'll just have to wait the year.

Highly doubt there will be a new story in SS and HG. If anything, they'll incorporate the Suicune shit somehow.

I hope to ALLAH that this game is a little harder. We competitive folks thinks the game is too easy. Or we just grind to damn much.

Actually I think they might try to expand on the Red Gyarados a little, or even your rival or Giovanni.

Excited beyond all belief for this. Like many people, I have fond memories of Gold and Silver even if later developments in the Pokemon games have overshadowed them. I have complete faith that this updated version will be a fabulous game, and hopefully will put to rest the common gripes about G/S being filled with "crappy Pokemon" and "underleveled Gym Leaders". Like others in this thread have theorized, I feel like Game Freak will in fact introduce 3rd and 4th generation Pokemon and updated Gym rosters at a later point in the game, making for an all-around AWESOME game.

The physical/special split makes me sad though, this means that my favorite Flamethrower/Thunderpunch combo Typhlosion won't be nearly as effective. :/

Some thoughts:

-Your starter follows you around, eh? That's cute! I wonder if it will only follow you around in its starter state or will it follow you around even after it evolves? Mmm...walking around with a Typhlosion in cities... I wonder if you're given a choice whether or not you want it to follow you around or not? Is the Pokemon following you around only limited to starters? Because there *is* that one screenshot of the Pichus but then again, that could be an event.

-Great to see more of the touch screen being used in the overworld map. I wonder if under "Pokemon", they will finally let you reorder your team (and similarly, the PC boxed Pokemon) using the touchscreen? I mean, come on, EVERYBODY was thinking that when the words "DS" and "Pokemon" were first mentioned...

-Definite potential for expansions everywhere, Whirl Islands for example, could be expanded into something else. God knows I never went in there except for Lugia. Liking the Red Gyarados plotline expansion idea, seeing as how it gets mention in DPP. Same for Kanto, I really hope they actually add some stuff in there since they have the time/money/fanbase for it now. Loving Slowflake's idea of using Blue's FR/LG team for his Viridian roster, I really hope they use that too.

-Moveset shakeups/additions for G/S Pokemon? I mean, this could cause compatibility issues with DPP but otherwise really there's only one choice for a starter Pokemon unless you're holding on for nostalgia's sake. </3 I mean, I'll probably still use Cyndaquil just because, but...

So excited. Is there any other news besides the Serebii main page that I've missed? Does anybody have a bigger scan of the page with Gold and Soul? Serebii's link of the picture just takes me to their work in progress HG/SS page.

Actually, unless they really rework the dex or otherwise make something drastically different from the original, G/S will still suffer under the "filled with crappy Pokemon" problem.

Sneasel, Yanma, Aipom, Piloswine, to name a few, still suck ass. I like to have my team defined at the very least before the E4, so I'm not going to drag around a pile of shitty base stats for however many hours it takes to beat the initial game. For that matter, I hope they also rework the location or distribution so that things like Larvitar aren't unobtainable until extremely far in.

Because I never cheat through a first playthrough of a new game, which this qualifies as, I'd rather not fill my team with 6 of what might end up being out of 12-16-18 remotely decent guys. As it stands, the original G/S did not give you a wide variety of good stuff. If I have to yet again use Heracross and Gengar because they give me no worthwhile alternative, so be it, but I'll be disappointed.

Platinum let me get a Scizor and Porygon-Z early on, while D/P didn't. I want more benefits like that. Hell, JUST include new evolutions of Johto dex pokes, and I'll be happy, since I'll get my Yanmega and Ambipom.

And as a side note, the Pikachu DPP sprite appears on the thing if you have a Pikachu in it. Does it mean no new sprites? (Scizor fans will be pissed.) Maybe not, because if you remember, the very first screenshot featuring Giratina-O showed a sprite that was different than the one that made it into the game.
