Thoughts? His speech was fantastic. What will he do, as a President? Best of luck, Barack Obama.

Loved his speech. I'm not sure what happened during his oath though. Did the judge (or whoever said it before him) screw up or was Obama just nervous?

Either way best of wishes to Obama :)

Didn't he say one of the first things he'd do as President was closing Guantanamo Bay? Not sure on that, I just think I heard it somewhere.

Yeah, that's what I heard as well. Also, that inauguration thing, was the boring hour and a half of my life. No offense.

Great speech. And I think he stumbled because he was trying to repeat a particularly long part of the oath. *shrug*

No one made you watch it, Cross, though you've always struck me as a sort of a carefree, oblivious type of youngster, the kind that doesn't care for or understand anything that won't entertain them. No offense.

that's why you sit with people who hate him lol

the speech was pretty interesting, though the actual swearing in was pretty quick and anticlimactic imo x_x

I'd never thought I could be entertained by a State of the Union address, but you're exactly right, heh.

Honestly, from what I read, I don't really think Obama is any better than any other politician. You can't trust any of them. :/

According to http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=14&entry_id=34812, the Chief Justice did in fact make a mistake while reading out what Obama was supposed to repeat. He misplaced the word "faithfully", which I think is what could've confused Obama slightly.

Here's the transcript, taken from the same site (Obama started talking a bit too early the first line):
ROBERTS: I, Barack Hussein Obama...

OBAMA: I, Barack...

ROBERTS: ... do solemnly swear...

OBAMA: I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear...

ROBERTS: ... that I will execute the office of president to the United States faithfully...

OBAMA: ... that I will execute...

ROBERTS: ... faithfully the office of president of the United States...

OBAMA: ... the office of president of the United States faithfully...

ROBERTS: ... and will to the best of my ability...

OBAMA: ... and will to the best of my ability...

ROBERTS: ... preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

OBAMA: ... preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

ROBERTS: So help you God?

OBAMA: So help me God.

ROBERTS: Congratulations, Mr. President.
Just thought I'd share

I'd just like to mention that I'm seeing the "Like Palin?" ad on this page right now, even when no one mentioned her name here. MOVE OVER YOU DUMB BROAD, THE OBAMA TRAIN'S GETTING HERE... nah, on second thought, stay there just a little longer... yeah, just like that... don't move...

But that wasn't what I really wanted to say... that is, I'm a little surprised he hasn't been shot by a maniac already. Here's to hoping he'll live out his presidency.

If you saw any footage of the motorcade bringing him around, you'd notice the dozens of Secret Service agents trailing and moving about, especially whenever he stepped out to walk along and wave to the crowds. They had a few shots of them looking through binoculars as well. I'm sure if anyone made a remotely suspicious or threatening gesture they'd be on him like wolves (but not before getting him back into the car and the hell out of there of course.)

The speech was great, the crowd's life was great, it was actually a surreal experience, it's a shame people like CrossDragon care so little about such a significant event. You can tell nearly everyone though bought into the whole "change" message. I don't know if he'll live up to his hype, but I think he's capable of it; he certainly has that charisma that leaders lack these days. However, people were saying that about Hitler way back when, but hopefully the US government system will keep everything together if he does turn out to be a neo-nazi. The fumbles on the oath were pretty funny though but I attribute that to the nerves. It must be hard to have to say those extremely important words in front of millions and billions that were watching on TV.

Depending on the documentaries you watch, they'll say particular people in power in Germany (I believe including the present Chancellor at the time) thought Hitler was a dangerously ambitious lunatic long before he became Chancellor. So at least not everyone had their head in the clouds.

Security was ridiculously tight at the inauguration, basically no one was at any risk at all. Obama was wearing a bulletproof suit! He stands almost no chance of getting assassinated unless he does something extremely foolish (like riding in an open limousine.)

Yeah, I saw it on TV. The security was really tight.

So whatcha think he'll do? I've heard Guantanamo Bay is gonna close til next year and he's been talking with Middle East presidents. Seems like he's fired up... That or I didn't pay much attention to politics til now.

A day in office he's already set in motion his plan to close Guantanamo Bay...haven't been paying too much attention today but I have noticed that. Whether the legislation will pass or not is a separate issue. Smart move on his part by enacting a relatively small change right away so he tells the people he means business without making a rash significant decision. Now who knows if he'll do any of the other bold things he's promised.
