Killer rain, huh? What the hell triggered this?

And for that matter, an English Platinum game? What the hell?

I'm pretty sure it's a translation patch.

Shortly, after Platinum was leaked onto the internet, several days before it's actual release (I'm talking ROMs here.), people started working on an English Patch which covered all the necessary translations. So yeah, it's not much a surprise, as the patch isn't perfect.

There's a debate on smogon about whether or not to impliment this in Shoddy.

But has the cause even been determined?

And I think it's fairly pointless to debate whether a glitch should be implemented or not. Were the 11/11 and 1/13 glitches (or rather, their end result) implemented into GSC simulators? Of course not.

Edit: I've watched a few vids of the glitch, and they all share a common factor: patched Platinum. So maybe the patch is responsible for that happening... I don't know how that would work, though.

...how exactly would Smogon implement it? Invent a move called Acid Rain that doesn't hurt poison or maybe water?

Seems to be caused by using Pursuit while Sandstorm is in effect. There is also a Hail version where all 4 weathers are in effect and all do damage to the pokemon. I don't know how they would implement it in shoddy, but I know it woundn't be by making a new move.

And it's not from the english patch because it has happened on non-patched Japanese games.

Thanks for the info. I updated the movie description for my latest LP video to reflect that discovery.

Wait then could it be possible Gamefreak fucked up really bad again? The 99.6 glitch was excusable because it happened so rarely and it was in their first Pokemon games. However, having weather hurt other Pokemon? Thats inexcusable and needs to be patched up before hitting the states (and Canada for you Slow).

Gamfreak assistant "sir we finally found a way to make tyranitar not broken"

Ceo *grimaces "well, as long as it's better than Miomoto's idea of giving flareon a fire version of extreme speed"

Gamefreak assistant "don't worry sir, we all know your opinion of flareon, we plan on making sandstorm and other types of weather hit pokemon for 2-4 times normal damage"

Ceo "OMG..... that is the best idea EVER"

Gamefreak assistant "all we will need is some move to activate it, we were thinking of brick break"

Ceo "that makes no sense, lets try... pursuit"

Gamfreak assistant " Pursuit? Well okay sir, right away.

So apparently in hail the following occurs:

Castform and cherrim continually transform back and forth

hydration heals manaphy

weather ball is fire typed under hail/sand/sun

Drizzle does not clear deadly sun, though snow warning does.

Just some misc. info

Hooooly crap. This topic is turning into an infomercial for Shoddy, since both Pursuit and perma-weather are major parts of the metagame. Can this bug be fixed somehow, like the Ruby/Sapphire berry glitch?

I'm sure it'll be fixed properly before release, or at the very least something akin to the Berry Fix will occur.

Question: are these "non patched" JP games the actual legit carts, or are they shitty ROM dumps? Because problems like that are easily brought forth by bad dumps, and DS ROMs especially are no stranger to those.

Good point there.

Also, are glitch weathers only triggered when Pursuit is used in perma-weather, or also under a temporary sandstorm or hail? And for that matter, do glitches occur when Drought, Drizzle, Rain Dance or Sunny Day are used as well?

...wow. Just, wow.

I read through several pages of the topic advocating the implementation of the "acid rain" in Shoddy, and I have to say, the arguments are RIDICULOUS.

It's blatantly a glitch and not "how the developers intended it to be" regardless of the idiotic little loophole that no one is able to hear from one of the game designers on the matter and post their input, verbatim. They claim that because of this, and because it exists on the carts, that they have "no choice" to implement it, as if:

"Rhyperior is hurt by its Solid Rock!"
"Heatran is hurt by its Flash Fire!"
"Blissey is hurt by its Natural Cure!"

Is any remote indication of an actually intended gameplay mechanic. At this point, you're not bounding yourself to an obligation to simulate the cart. You're being a fucking retard. Everyone for this glitch is by every definition a fucking retard.

Which will happen first? Waiting for it to be resolved on the US carts, or people realising how unenjoyable it makes battles and coming to their senses?

1 ) Shoddy is emulating Wireless battles. Wireless battles have that effect
2 ) In order to be true to wireless battles, we must include this glitch .

Why is being true to Wi-Fi ridiculous?

And it's on un-patched versions of the game as well.

Why is being true to Wi-Fi ridiculous?

BECAUSE IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE GAME.

So let me get this straight... back in GSC, being true to the game meant that every Pokémon that could learn Transform or Metronome could access every single move in the entire game. Are you claiming that's how it should've been? Because it wasn't. That glitch wasn't accounted for, EVER.

Face it, there ARE precedents of gamebreaking glitches not being included into simulators. Therefore, there's no possible reasonable stance that results in the glitch being included in Shoddy.

And even if it occurs on un-patched versions, there's still such a thing as a bootleg untranslated copy. It could be the cause of the glitch like nothing.

Wi-fi lacks Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause and any clauses for that matter. However, they are on PBR, which lets each player see the opponent's team ahead of time. Why isn't this implemented on Shoddy? As for the ladder, it is like the random battle option on PBR, so therefore ladder matches should be 3vs3. Otherwise, we wouldn't be staying true to Wi-fi. If acid rain is implemented, it is only fair all these are implemented as well.

Speaking of Sleep Clause, did I mention that implementing it through a system of courtesy on Wi-Fi would be a major pain in the ass if Starmie and Blissey had more viable alternatives to Natural Cure than what they have now? You'd basically be forced to give away your Pokémon's ability before the match so that both people can keep track of Sleep Clause.

Bottom line, Shoddy doesn't follow Wi-Fi (or PBR for that matter) perfectly already, and in every case it's for the best. Besides, two other things: first, the glitch's behavior is so odd and necessitates so much research that it'd be hard to get it down perfectly, and second, if that glitch occurs on real copies and not just bootleg ones, the US version is coming out in less than two months, and there might be a fix for it similar to the berry fix in Emerald.

Edit: One final note: there's no uber rule on Wi-Fi either, and while I'm not fully aware of PBR's rules when it comes to that, we've seen all of Nintendo's attempts at defining what's uber or not become the target of much ridicule. No one outside the competitive community would ever think of Wobbuffet or Garchomp as ubers.
