Sorry for double-posting again, but it's the only way to disable that damn bug.

Edit: Wow, it didn't even work this time, probably because this post is starting a new page. Anyway, back to Pokémon Red, here's part 27:

You looking forward to CT DS, Slowflake? I sure as hell am. Enhanced port of my favorite SNES game? Hell yes. FUCK yes. I only wish we got a bit more information regarding the new dungeons.. I want boss info.

Cosplaying is fun Slowflake :( It's dressing up to show off to other people. It's more fun when you do it in a big group though.

I'd rather show off naked. >_> <_< j/k But seriously, a successful cosplay is really hard to pull off, although some people are better off trying their hand at it than others (if only I could find that 300-pound Rikku again...).

And yes, I'm really looking forward to CTDS. Too bad we don't have much about the new dungeons... then again, did we get anything at all about the Dragon's Den before FF6A's release? I don't really remember.

What's new in CTDS anyway? I've played the beginning of the original, and I'd love to get the port.

I've only heard about new dungeons, and nothing else. New playable characters are doubtful, because seriously, who would it be? You can't add anyone without changing the storyline around. New skills? Maybe... FF6A did have Flood, Gravija and Valor.

One thing I'd like to see is dual and triple techs being cranked up enough for them to be worth using. Between CT and Sonic Chronicles, there's only one skill that uses multiple characters I found worth using, and that's Sonic Chronicles' Atomic Strike (which is practically mandatory to beat the pirates late in the game).

Edit: Part 28 up!

Oh, you gotta be kidding me. Not this bug again. Does this happen only to me, or did others experience this?

Then again, it may have to do with the fact that I edit my posts a lot, so I'm more exposed to having it occur.

There are more than a few really good Double and Triple Techs. Keep in mind they're heavily influenced by the character's stats and equipment, so a Robo with Crisis Arm and HP ending in 9 will have drastically beefed up physical techs, which in turn enhance his doubles and triples. If his partner has say Prism Specs, it only continues to multiply the power.

Also, no new characters and if we do get any new techs chances are they'll be executed via rocks and not learned with tech points.

I really want to know more about the new dungeons, though. I hope we get more than just a superboss out of them; I want a handful of new bosses throughout them with some devious scripts to make them challenging.

IIRC Slowflake, all we knew about Dragon's Den for a while was that the unused dragon sprite from FFVI was going to be the superboss of that place, and some minor side info like the requirement for three parties.

Yeah, typically double techs are stronger than the sum of their parts, but I'm not much of a fan of waiting for the other character's ATB bar to fill... I don't know if it's true or not, but I always get the feeling I'm getting more bang for my buck by using single techs and NOT waiting. Triple techs are even worse in that regard, though to be fair I can't find the damage formulas for them. Worse, when you get ultimate techs like Luminaire or Flare double techs become nearly obsolete, unless you really want to sacrifice damage to conserve MP.

I must say you're wrong in that regard. A lot of double techs are obscenely strong, better than any ultimate single tech a character can use. Like I said, stats. It's all about stats. A shittly equipped character will do shitty techs with a better equipped characters. And even then some are so good it doesn't really matter in the end.

Also, if you're remotely diligent about collecting speed tabs, that's never an issue. Of course, dumping them all on only one character will only ensure the other ATBs have to play catch-up.

Lastly, the double and triple techs shine on bosses more than they do enemy encounters, and that's where you really see the merit of stuff like Volt Bite over Luminaire (backed by the two physically strongest characters in the game versus one character's lesser magic) and Falchon Hit. Robo and Lucca's Fire Bomb or whatever it's called is also sickeningly powerful.

Hmm. Well, thanks for the advice... I guess I'll try to seek out some documentation on which double techs are worth it. Wherever I look, though, it always seems like triples are a waste.

And judging from my aforementioned experience with the pirate fight in Sonic Chronicles, it looks like math isn't quite enough to do those things justice - I was absolutely stunned at how Atomic Strike made that otherwise unwinnable fight piss-easy, even when I was fully aware what the move was supposed to do.

Anyway, Magus usually made my party at the end for awesome type coverage purposes - but if I get the hang of that double tech thing that may not be the case anymore.

Omega Flare is diiiiiiiiiiiiiisgustingly powerful. Magus, Robo and Lucca. Unfortunately thanks to Magus it requires the use of a rock.

Come to think of it I think all of the rock triple techs are really, really strong since you have to go out of your way to get them. But Omega Flare? That's something you feed to Lavos. It's the SpecsMence Draco Meteor of CT.

The triple involving Crono, Ayla and Robo I believe is also incredibly strong. Again, attributed to all three having great physical strength.

Triple Raid, Crono, Frog and Robo, while not ball bustingly strong, is I think the earliest TT you can learn because the techs required for it are all learned very early. You can get it the moment you're able to use Frog and Robo together, which IIRC is before Magus' Castle, and I'm almost positive I was able to hit Flea for over 1000 a pop with it. Low MP cost too.

Otherwise I have to agree with you that a lot of TTs are not worth it given the cost, and besides really late game if you've gone out of your way to get stuff like the Rainbow for Crono, you'll want to be attacking with him, not even using Luminaire. Magus has such ridiculous magic that he gets by just using his single techs, but you seem to be very aware of that.

Back to Double Techs, Falchon Hit and Antipode series never stop being useful, and Fire Bomb (Lucca and Robo) is also very strong. Almost any tech involving Ayla will be physical and hit single targets extremely hard. Come to think of it, most techs that use Robo are also very good, plus he has plenty of magic ones too. Beast Toss is also great, and Boogie inflicts Stop (which works on the Golem Twins and allows you to hit them with physicals without getting Iron Orbed or fireballed.)

I'm gonna correct you there: it's not Magus that makes it require a rock, it's the lack of Crono. Then again, Chrono Trigger isn't an exception to the rule according to which the character that's forced in your party is the all-around best in the game, so I make sure to keep Crono in my active party even after he gets revived. So much for Omega Flare... especially since I'm not much of a fan of either Marle or Lucca battle-wise. Not with Robo, Ayla and Magus around, oh no.

But yeah, I'm aware of a lot of things in the game, but when it gets to doubles and triples it gets a lot harder to grasp IMO.

I know it's not Magus, but I had tried to imply that all other characters were involved in TTs that didn't require any rocks. It is the lack of Crono indeed.

One thing, I'm wondering if they'll rename some of the attacks like they did in the FF ports and remakes? I'm thinking mainly of the attacks with numbers after them, like Fire 2... I'm not expecting Fira like in FF, especially since there's no Firaga to complete the trio.

Unless, of course, you take into account the fact that Magus' early spells are 30% more powerful than their Crono/Marle/Lucca counterparts off the same level and magic power. Add Magus' extreme magic stat to the mix, and you got carnage. Then again, Dark Matter only has a 15.5 multiplier, the worst for ultimate moves that use the regular magic damage formula. Not a big deal considering the only one that's significantly higher than that is Luminaire's 20.5, and off Crono's less interesting magic stat it's not that much of a threat unless you stuff him full of Magic Tabs over several playthroughs. At which point you plow through the game with anything anyway. But I'm ranting now, so on to something else...

I'm wondering what kind of difficulty the bonus dungeon(s) will have. If the Dragon's Den is any indication, the Black Omen will look like Gato in comparison, which is what I'm looking for. Especially in a game where, unlike in FF6, there's no instant-win move (though Kaiser Dragon and Omega Weapon have ways to shrug off Entice, to their credit).

Edit: To answer your question, Rose, I used, in order:

- Slash Beast's stage from Megaman X4
- The Project Chaos remix of Flying Battery Zone from Sonic 3 & Knuckles
- The F-Zero X Guitar Arranged remix of Silence, from, well, F-Zero X

Kaiser and Omega merely forced you to reuse it, but as I've said before there's little more boring than just giving everything charm status.

I dunno about the difficulty; granted the movies only showed two different battles, one for each dungeon, and it was nothing more than a character landing a killing blow on an enemy. I don't mind the challenge being derived mainly from puzzles and the occasional boss, but I would like some nasty enemy encounters (especially now that they're not random in CT; you kill a rotten little creature, and you're guaranteed not to fight it again until you meet a formation with it somewhere else on the map. None of that three steps, LOL HELLO AGAIN crap.)

The dimensional vortexes also look like they'll be much more fiendish than the Lost Sanctum, which by video is given the appearance of a glorified fetch quest with an obligatory boss to wrap it up.

Here, Slowflake- someone showed me a page out of an article that briefly discusses the new dungeons (not really saying anything about difficulty however) and I'll repeat the blurbs verbatim:

"Halfway through the game, mysterious portals appear in prehistoric times and in the middle ages, both leading to an area called the Lost Sanctum. Consisting of a village, several field areas, and two full-fledged dungeons, the Lost Sanctum adds hours of fresh gameplay through multiple sidequests that intertwine between the two eras.

Three additional Dimensional Vortex bonus dungeons open up once you've completed Chrono Trigger's main quest. We don't want to spoil everything, so we'll leave it at this: the dungeons feature new items, enemies, and bosses, and one of them even incorporates a fabled "lost" area that was reportedly planned for Chrono Trigger's initial release. Conquer all three Dimensional Vortices and you'll get the opportunity to square off against a brutal new final boss and witness a new ending (bringing the total ending count to more than 13.)"

So, yeah, nothing about difficulty, but they did mention the Singing Mountain and because the Lost Sanctum is said to open halfway through (as indicated by the video, apparently it's after you get the modified Epoch) I doubt there's much in the way of new enemies. In fact, in the only part of the vid showing a battle, it's against black two-headed serpents, which are probably the Ruminators you saw throughout Black Omen.
