That's what I thought, actually. I was almost losing hope for the site being back up in the later days of the update. Stretching on for two weeks with no notification to the users that an update was even going on, and all.

True.

HATE SOLAR MAN'S STAGE SO MUCH. I actually had to beat the same enemies over and over at the end of the stage to replenish the Water Shield, because I needed it so much for surviving the ladders with the fireball cannons. With that being said, the shield is actually useful as a close-range weapon! Not quite as powerful as the Flame Blast or Concrete Shot, and not quite as tough as the Junk Shield or Jewel Satellite, but I've seen a lot worse in both categories. When they said the best defense is attack, I don't think this is what they had in mind, but it'll do. On that note, I shudder to think of how sadistic this place is in Hard mode.

A notification was sent out ages ago, on IRC. Moving along, fuck MM10. And it's stupidly hard stages. I gave up after dying so many times in one of the stages in Normal mode, I haven't picked it up since.

Didn't we have to give an e-mail address when we signed up? I would think it would be much more convenient for the users if an e-mail was sent out to each of the active members. It wouldn't be too hard... I mean, there's only like 10 of us, max. I know that IRC is a huge feature of Libelldra, but it wouldn't hurt to notify those who do not frequent it. >_>

CrossDragon: I know what you mean, MM10 isn't easy by any stretch of the imagination... but Solar Man's stage is easily the one I had the most trouble with (among the first eight, I mean, haven't done Wily's castle yet). The DLC weapons made a huge difference between life and death in many cases, the Screw Crusher and Ballade Cracker in particular are better than all the actual Robot Master weapons. I definitely used them a LOT more, at least.

Well, I illegally acquired the stupid game. And I haven't touched MM10 in a while so I don't know much about the whole downloading weapons and stuff. Is it free? Or do I have to pay for it?

No, they come with the special stages. The way it works is that you buy and download a special stage, you go through it (only available in Time Attack), and at the end you fight a boss from the Game Boy Megaman games, and when you beat them you get their weapon, which you can use whenever you play as Megaman, which includes most challenges, any Time Attack, and the regular game. Yep, if you get all three you basically start with four weapons (including the Mega Buster) whenever you begin a new game. But as I said, that's only with Megaman, so Protoman and Bass players are left in the dust.

And even more insultingly, one of the DLC weapons is a response to Protoman's shield (not a complete substitute, but adequate nonetheless), and the other puts the charged Proto Buster to shame (the Ballade Cracker is basically a Drill Bomb with double ammo that you can fire in any direction but straight down). Yeah, as if Protoman didn't suck enough already. And I haven't even mentioned the Screw Crusher, which has the same ammo and rapid-fire capabilities as the Quick Boomerang, but its path is similar to the hammers you can throw as Hammer Mario in SMB3.

lol suck less. Though it's only fair that you don't enjoy the game, having pirated it.

Ah luuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrvs meh some Ballade Cracker, and have warmed up to the Screw Crusher considerably. I liked the Mirror Buster at first but don't have much use for it any more.

Anyway, I finally noticed the site was back up. What's up, Slow? The last vid of yours I saw was Emerald 59, so I have some catching up to do.

I'm sure I'm not the only one really looking forward to Galaxy 2. I also played Phoenix Wright for the first time; highly entertaining for an interactive story. I liked it enough to want to get the 2nd and 3rd soon, and perhaps once enough time has passed I'll play the first again.

There we go. All up to date now!

So I beat MM10, both on Normal and Easy (in order to unlock the boss challenges there), and then I tried Hard for kicks. I never even got to try Solar Man's stage before getting utterly disgusted at the difficulty. MM10 Hard mode and MM9 Superhero mode can both jump into the Heat Man block puzzle.

But when it comes to Normal... well, that was tough enough on its own. The Screw Crusher was easily my most used weapon there. The Triple Blade's air-to-ground nature made it just about impossible to hit something high up on the screen, and the Rebound Striker is just not very good. So as you can imagine, something with the same ammo clip and rapid-fire properties as the Quick Boomerang was a godsend. Especially for the Wily Machine. Apparently its weak point is the Water Shield, but how am I supposed to hit it with THAT? The Ballade Cracker was also a welcome addition, but explosive weapons not going through walls made it difficult to reach some enemies. Nonetheless, I used the DLC weapons almost exclusively outside of bosses, and even the Screw Crusher came in handy for Pump Man (Thunder Wool + weakness = NO) and the Tornado Man archive (same). Mirror Buster rocked against Strike Man, too.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You can't just puss out on the game after coming this far, dude! You fucking beat MM7 Wily, but won't even finish one stage on Hard?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Triple Blade is still pretty awesome, especially at close range. Thunder Wool owns the hell out of Pump, you just have to position the cloud a little ways away so he doesn't hit it before it rises.

....to hit Wily with Water Shield, wait for him to lower close to the floor.... should've been obvious. In the meantime, I prefer Ballade Crackers.

These weapons take a lot more experimentation and practice, that's for sure. If you were somehow able to appreciate Power Stone, you shouldn't write out the MM10 assortment so quickly.

I know... if there was one weapon that could redeem that roster had it been better, it'd have to be the Commando Bomb. It's a dud if you hit your target, so you have to miss it, but not by too much or it does nothing. It would've been better with 14 ammo or more, but with only 9 every shot counts. The only bomb weapon with less ammo was the Crash Bomb (and if you remember, that little fact alone made MM2 way harder than it had any right to be for me). The whole "dud" factor and low ammo also murder the Thunder Wool. I know for a fact that the damage is godly in the right circumstances (Crab Puncher says hi), but unless you're a better player than me, those right circumstances happen exactly once in the whole game (Crab Puncher says hi).

Solar Blaze is horrid... except on the bosses it's weak to. C'mon, it deals the same damage as a buster shot, but only after a while unless you're close to the target (and facing it), and I don't remember an occasion where I would've used it to hit more than one target, except against the Wily Machine's first form. Other than that, there's Chill Man... and the battle's quirks make it awesome to hit him when he's behind you. Some people suggest starting with Chill Man... really? Sheep Man is way, WAY easier to buster. Pump Man and Strike Man are made viable choices by the DLC weapons, too.

You ARE right, though, in that the Triple Blade is the resident all-purpose weapon if the DLC ones aren't an option. So fun to shotgun Strike Man and the Wood Man archive for insane damage. I'm also glad to see a freezing weapon for the first time since the original (not counting the insultingly horrid Spark Shock), let me tell you I whipped it out often. Same for the Water Shield.

All in all, MM10's arsenal isn't that good, but it does have some good stuff (mostly those three and the last two DLCs), unlike MM5 which had exactly ONE weapon worth using somewhat regularly. The reason I liked the Power Stone wasn't because it was a good weapon... it was subpar at best, but that still made it the second best weapon in the whole game! Comparing MM10's arsenal to MM5's is just not a good idea, the latter is by far the worst in the series. I honestly wasn't too fond of MM7's, either, but maybe I'm just missing something.

Play the game more, especially hard mode, and you won't find the weapons that bad. The only ones I never use in regular levels are Thunder Wool and Rebound Striker. Well, once Ballade Cracker was available I didn't use Solar Blaze, but that's not SB's fault.

Solar Blaze deals 3 damage a pop, not one. Before BC it was useful for the roader enemies and anything with a shield. Now, I like it mostly for removing gunk from sludge mets after they've hit me with some.

Anyway, take my word for it and don't wimp out on hard mode just yet. It's called Hard for a reason, and unlike many hard modes that just cripple your health or produce some arbitrary handicap, this is a legit challenge. Cross is just being a whiny bitch and has lost any platformer skills he had. You're above that.

If you still don't notice any useful traits for the non-DLC weapons, I can highlight some of the better uses I've found (believe it or not, Commando Bomb has a lot of great use in Sheep stage on Hard, and they provide plenty of refills for it.)

Fine, I'll give it a try. Wonder why I figured Solar Blaze's damage was one, though?

Part 74: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F3_luh6gio&fmt=18

Edit: I went back through a few stages in Normal to have some fun with the Solar Blaze and Commando Bomb, and I didn't give them quite enough credit. The latter in particular deals such immense damage it's almost worth the huge setbacks. Almost.

Hard mode is still being a huge pain, though. Admittedly, my forte remains games that require you to use your brain more than your hands, even though genres like RPGs aren't quite my favorites. C'mon, I made it to Dracula in IWBTG before the constant (and I do mean constant) crashes made me give up... I have to be able to at least beat ONE stage!

Well, you do have the DLC weapons, so you should be more than willing to abuse them.

I recommend starting with ChillMan. He takes 2 damage from Screw Crusher, you can pick up a lot of screws, and his stage on hard mode doesn't get hairy until the final stretch.

During that final stretch, take it easy and use ballade cracker to kill the jumpers and snowmen, and if you take your time, the bird missiles won't catch you off guard. At the end of this level is a huge jumper (which will probably destroy your ice platforms) immediately followed by a charging siren thing. If you aren't ready to hit that siren, it'll knock you into the pit. Be ready with the BC, which will damage through the shield and push it back.

After that, take on Nitro stage, which you can mow through easily enough with just Chill Spike and BC. Remember to use spikes to kill the trucks and crackers on everything else.

From there, I go to Pump stage, which can feel very difficult the first time through, but with the DLC weapons, it's easy to charge through, terminator style. Remember not to hastily leap over pits, as some have parabombs. BC will kill shrimp instantly and won't let them counterattack. Met sludge lasts for ages on hard mode, so don't get hit by it.

From there I do Blade, as Water Shield rapes the miniboss and spikes/crackers handle everything else. Don't use Mirror Buster during the seesaw segments, you'll still get hit. Just rapid fire.

With all this, you can take Solar with ease. There's one very misleadingly tough segment near the end of the level- you need to climb a ladder with two fireball generators and a pipi (bird) flying back and forth. As soon as you enter, just keep climbing until you're between the generators on your left, and once the fireballs are out of the way, keep going. All there is to it. People mistakenly are patient, and then they never get through without a ton of damage.

No, I'm just not good enough. It happens. I tried, I really did, unlike SOMEONE (my brother) who folded like a deck of cards after one failure against the Yellow Devil and the Quick Man lasers. (And we're talking about regular difficulty Megaman here.) But this isn't fun anymore. At least I should be thankful MM10 Hard was free, as a warning not to drop that dollar on MM9 Superhero. Oh well, regular difficulty on all 10 games was a fun ride. Very, very fun.

Too bad. I love hard mode and play it exclusively apart from some trips through Endless. It's not my familiarity with the series that makes it easier for me, because by now you're more than accustomed to classic MM also.

Anyway, I've been playing Galaxy 2 during some time home from work (I get up at 4 AM to prepare, and usually when I get back I'd rather get more sleep than do much else) and while I do like it, I'm not of the collective mindset that it's the ultimate platformer and certainly not undeniably better than Galaxy 1. But the only people who seem to agree are trolls that say it anyway just to piss people off.

Haven't tried it yet, I wouldn't know. But if I end up liking it better than Galaxy 1, which is not easy at all to do... maybe I should give it a spin sooner or later.
