Nah, I just gave it to one character for that reason. Most monsters have shit movelists or won't be very receptive to Control.

That said, if you want to do a little bit of ABP farming on the second continent, you can enter an area with nothing but Shield Dragons, which are vulnerable to Control and have Blaze in their movelist, which you can spam on them until they die (you won't be able to kill them off the bat otherwise, too strong.) If you do this, also remember to save frequently, because those dragons have Zombie Breath which both hurts immensely and.. take a guess.

Sadly, those dragons also have Almagest as their release attack, but thanks to their atrocious MA it deals pitiful damage. If you ever bother with catch-release you're better off using Skull Eaters. (BTW, to kill one of those squirrely bastards, catch a Goblin and release it to use Flare or Dark Flare, I forget which.)

Haha, no. Catch sounds really awful from what I've read about it. It also seems Control has an accuracy of 40%, which would make me long for Pokémon's Sing or Grasswhistle. So Control on one character (probably Faris), and that's it. Thanks.

Edit: Tried the Karnak escape sequence twice, the first time I ran out of time ON THE GROUND OUTSIDE OF THE CASTLE... and the second time I made it in time, but despite Faris having Learning and taking a Death Claw to the face she didn't even learn it. WTF? So let's try this again without screwing it up!

Yeah, I screwed the escape a few times, until I started being more selective about the treasure I picked up. I'm pretty sure I also tried to pick up one of the Aero versions which added to it. Though I did successfully get Death Claw the first time.

According to Chuggaaconroy's recap of the marathon, the Sapphire Prima guide recommends Sableye as a team member? Why? No weaknesses? More like it's weak to everything, with those stats. I know RSE doesn't have too many good Pokémon, but Sableye's still bad enough that it should never be considered.

As for me, I finally got a chance to try Metroid Prime with the new controls, and the hardest thing to get used to is NOT the new controls, as I'd played standalone MP3 before, but not getting the Space Jump first. It's been a long time since I played that game without any sequence breaking. Thardus should be fun for the same reason, it's horribly weak to the Plasma Beam (by that I mean more than usual), but now I can't get it until the tail end of the game.

RSE's selection was kinda shitty if you intended to have nothing but high-end guys, but otherwise I didn't think it was so bad. Not like GSC.

The most retarded thing about RSE was the way they handled your opposite sex counterpart. The Wally guy becomes your main rival while they're just.. there for a few fights with an unfinished team? Uh, okay.

I also didn't like how Steven had Cradily, Armaldo and Claydol. At least Lance's lineup, perhaps with the exception of Aerodactyl, had a mock-dragon thing going.

Lastly, I wasn't thrilled with how they started the trend of "add a million fucking legends and ubers, cause we can" because it gave them all the more reason to cut off a number of them and make them inaccessible wtihout going out of your way or cheating.

R/S happens to be the only gen where I was so drunk on hype and anticipation that I got the JP ROMs and played the game without understanding a single damn thing. Swampert, Exploud, Aggron, Medicham, and I forget who else made up my team. It wasn't until well after finishing the NA version that I began to grasp any concept of natures and EV training.

Haha, Slowflake are you going to make a new topic for when you start your RSE LP ? That aside, I sort hated Sapphire, but I bought it at the time because all my friends had Ruby and had to play because Pokemon was the hype back then. (This was during um 5th grade elementary school?) That aside, I didn't really get into competitive pokemon until like 9th grade. Also they can do all that because they are fucking Nintendo, they don't care if you have to cheat! They make money either way!

I don't really see the need to start a new topic, I didn't do it for Crystal either.

I can sort of understand where you come from, Ruby and Sapphire did a certain number of things wrong, most notably the "clones" of first-gen Pokémon, and the lack of familiar Pokémon in the Hoenn Dex (only one third of it was made up of gen 1 and 2 Pokémon). But Emerald sort of compensated for that, with a lot of interesting additions.

And yes, I agree that it was sad that May got the shaft and Wally became the rival at the last second. You don't even get to see May's final form starter (which will be Swampert in this LP's case).

Moving on... my brother just did the final Dark Samus fight in MP2, and it seems to be a lot more fair this time around. You know how in the original you'd lose your Phazon charge if you stepped on Phazon or got hit by a stray projectile or two? Not anymore.

Hey guys, I'm back! I found a way to cheat this stinking computer for this site (FINALLY!), as it makes my internet turn off upon entry into certian sites. This topic is one, Youtube's homepage is one, and there are a few others that come and go. Needless to say, I'm back.

And Emerald? Looking back at that game, I laugh at the pathetically easy game you'll be playing. At least you'll never have to deal with the FREAKING ALTARIA FROM HADES!

I honestly kinda like that the Hoenn dex had so few recognizable pokes. At the same time, I wish they weren't "obligatory" things like Psyduck-Golduck, Machop line, etc. They got old. I've come to terms with the fact that Tentacool, Zubat, and Magikarp have established themselves as the Goblins in their respective environments, though the fact that they produce new 1st Route fodder with every new gen leaves me unable to see why they don't create new Goblins in their place. I mean, hell- Feebas and Finneon could have easily replaced Tentacool in 3rd and 4th gen. But no, instead they make Feebas hard as fuck to locate.

The Platinum Sinnoh dex happens to be my favorite, and I'm thrilled how they handled it. In doing so it brought a ton of final stages over along with former final stages and their prevos, and it ALMOST felt like I wasn't fighting the same shit between every trainer! Okay, sure, the difference was basically made up only by Ace Trainers and mandatory bosses, but hey, it was a change nonetheless.

What Platinum changed that I didn't like is the gym underlings. I LIKED fighting Steelix and Tentacruel in the Ice gym because, just like you, it conveyed that you fight with anything as opposed to simply using only what conforms to a stereotype. Even if it's only particular trainers that do this, it was better than fighting a million bloody Glalies and whatnot in Platinum.

What's that, Flint? Oh, that's right. They did it only because the original Sinnoh dex shafted so many types. Now that we had Snorunt and Glalie and Swinub, let's get rid of all that diversity and replace them with... Snorunt and Glalie and Swinub! Once you KO that 12th little piggy, you'll know you're inside an ice gym!

True. A lot of people are talking about Flint's Flareon as if it was a good idea. Gimme Steelix or Drifblim any day.

As a matter of fact, I'm not sure mono-type teams are the way to go this late in the game. What I'd like to see in the next gen would be E4 members that have teams built around a theme that's NOT a single type.

Oh yeah, and it turns out the entire tech list of ToS2's Ruby Dear is made up of titles of works from Shakespeare. Because when I think of a half-woman, half-snake sadomasochist, I think Shakespeare.

I like the "balanced" E4 members as well, if only because you then get more out of your team as opposed to one guy spamming Ice Beam or Thunderbolt or whatever.

At the same time, I don't mind the mono-E4 teams if they're not only leveled high enough but aren't like R/S in that you're fighting copies of the same damn thing. None of that two Dusclops and Banettes shit. So in that regard, I thought Flint having a Flareon was a good thing, since he also brought Houndoom and Magmortar into it. If you don't technically use a monotype, don't bill it as one, that's all.

I'd also like it if gym themes weren't restricted to types, though I have the feeling that's going to be asking too much even generations from now. What I WOULD like is the sort of thing you'd see in the themed teams used in the Stadium games- teams based on weather, status, pokes that fall into a particular stat crowd (though more often than not these are all defense oriented teams that just try to stall you) and so on.

Or, heck, take the DP Flint route and keep the type themes but loosen them up to moves. A fighting E4 member that has Togekiss, Dragonite and Electivire? Sign me up. Or, hell, just have everyone on the team conform to one move of that type, like Superpower, of which the learnbase is now pretty big. Hell, imagine a Normal gym where the TM reward and central theme is Explosion. You go in with a fighter expecting a clean sweep, only to find they lead with Weezing. Or Gengar.

I need your input, Slowflake.

Yesterday I managed to reach Rank 10 in the wifi Battle Tower, which means I can now visit any rank and impregnate it with my team data. Naturally, I want to use this opportunity to upload an extremely annoying team to face, and I think the only logical solution is.. a OHKO-themed team. Everyone hates those PIs with a passion, and since almost all the teams faced in that thing are cookie cutter (a battle without Scizor or Garchomp is so rare I can't even find a good comparison) I want to change it up a bit with this unwelcome sight.

I've at least been able to decide on the lineup: Gliscor, Snorlax, and Lapras/Walrein.

The difficulty I have in deciding is.. Lapras vs Walrein, a defensive vs specially offensive set for Lapras, and who amongst those three would receive particular items, those being the Micle Berry and Quick Claw.

It's worth mentioning this team is not looking for coverage, so lack of synergy means nothing. They're just there to piss people off and occasionally score some OHKOs. I figure with the AI controlling them, there's bound to be some outrageously haxxy moments.

Any suggestions?

Repto, never base a team on OHKO moves. Someone hacked a team of Electrode/Aerodactyl/really fast pokemon with No Guard and OHKO moves to find... that almost all of their opponents had Sturdy. Yep, that's right: The Battle Tower ACTUALLY STACKS THE DECK AGAINST YOU.

I think the best option would be things like Power Trick/Sub/DT/Gyro Ball Shuckle or the like, maybe Regigigas and a ghost (To handle Lucario and Togekiss) who abuse DT.

Someone didn't grasp the point of my post.

I'm not going to be attempting any win streaks with this team. It's for the WiFi rankings, where all teams you face are man-made, but controlled by the computer. Whenever you choose a floor within a rank, if you choose to upload your data to Nintendo's server afterward, your team is added to that floor and when other players challenge it, your team becomes one of those they may face.

So, I'm producing a team for the AI to use that would be a pain in the ass to face, and OHKOs are among the best ways to do it.

Oh, I get it. Call that one my fault: I don't have Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. I'm expecting this to come with a nice DS (not a DSi) for me. (That's never gonna happen, btw.) Of course, my computer (worthless and completely bad as it is) can't use DS emulators.

Well, at least it can use VBA, so I can use Emerald 386 to drown away my sorrows.

Oh, and by the way, on the prior subject of Gym leaders and Elite four members and their types...

I really, REALLY hope that someday, Nintendo would get the message and integrate new types into the game. It did WAAAAAAAAY back in RBY with Koga's gym (Drowzees, Kadabras, and Hypnos), Sabrina's gym (Ghosts and her Venomoth), and, of course, Giovanni's gym. Gen2 and 3 had none of that though, and stood with cookie-cutter precise types. Then, DP threw curvballs, with Medicham in the Ice gym (What's that? You're using Infernape? OWNED!), Octillery and Ambipom with Volkner, and Flint's cast. Of course, thsi fell through in Platinum, but some of the replacements were... odd. Flint still had Rapidash (ugh.) and Flareon (And here we thought that Masuda hated it), and Volkner got Raichu. I'm sorry, but I'd rather have Drifblim, Steelix, Octillery and Ambipom then Raichu, Flareon, and Rapidash.

Oh, and the "Conform to a single move" thing was done in DP with Flint. Did you ever get a chance to look at Steelix's moveset? It it highly informitive.

I meant one move as in everyone uses it. Lopunny and Drifblim didn't use Fire Fang. Or Sunny Day IIRC.

Off the top of my head, I know that some trainers had Horsea and Seadra in the 8th gym, but those were more due to Kingdra actually being a dragon, so whatever. Koga, Bruno and Karen didn't have a lineup solely of their "main" type, either, but they weren't gym leaders, so whatever.

I think Drifblim used Sunny day (actually it did) and Lopunny used Fire Punch.

I didn't count Seadra because it evolves into Kingdra, but giving Kingdra to random gym trainers is not a good move.

Koga uses Bug, Poison, and Bug/Poison types. I didn't think much of him. Karen used Poison and other such types due to lack of her own type (would you prefer her with 2 Dusclops and Bannetes?) And I've seen Bruno as a user of Fighting and Rock types. The Elite four can use 2 types, they just choose not to in recent times.

Personally, I prefer Steven's roster out of them all. It has a good mix of Steels (Metagross, Skarm, Agronn) and Ancients (Claydol, the Hoenn fossils). So when I go at the level 100 (!) Emerald 386 equivalant in the future, and my team is Electabuzz/Victrybell/Typhlosion/Hitmonchan/Heracross, I'm expecting murder. On my part. Yeah... but then again, I'm expecting to pick up Regice before then. Who won't help at all.

Ah well, at least it wasn't Satin's Altaria.

I note with mild interest that Mewtwo holds his own pretty well at the battle tower. He gets a lot of mileage out of the Expert Belt, Life Orb, and especially Choice Specs.

<____________________________<

lol so i got bored and wanted to try it so shut up S-SHUT UP

Anyway uh yeah. Given that this guy is the only one that has 130 speed and doesn't sacrifice either defenses or raw power for it, I have no incentive to try any other uber. While there have still been some hairy fights and close calls, I can definitely attribute much of my streak to the fact that it's mother fucking Mewtwo. Mewtwo attacks. Opponent dies. The only times this doesn't work is when it's movelocked into a neutral or worse hit, or it's Blissey, who is 3HKOed instead.

The downside to all this is that when I bother to do legit runs I can't be as creative with the rest of my team, because I no longer have Mewtwo to either do most of the work, or sit in the back as an extremely effective last resort.

Also, people jokingly say "_____ should have more than four moveslots." Do you think that, despite giving the "upgrade" to everyone, it would still be horribly shattered by the collection of sweepers that could then pick up the one-two moves it had to deliberate over, thereby expanding its type coverage?

If nothing else I think Protect/Sub and Rest usage would skyrocket.

Heh. Mewtwo with Psychic, CM, Sub, Recover, BB, and Shadow Ball for the win!

And Starmie would be something like Surf, T-Bolt, Ice Beam, Rapid Spin, Recover, Hydro Pump.
