Maybe I'm getting better? Actually, the part that gave me the most trouble was the gauntlet (relatively speaking, since I only got one game over there because I was on my final life when I got to level 4), since MM3 doesn't have the brutally overpowered weapons MM2 has. The Needle Cannon is probably the best weapon there, and I still don't recommend using it on anyone but Snake Man. The Gemini Laser would be interesting, except if you miss you can't fire off another one for a decade, and the Shadow Blades are a failure of a mix between the Metal Blade and the Quick Boomerang. As for the Magnet Missiles... jeez, miss twice and you don't even have enough to beat Hard Man. I had to finish the bastard with the Mega Buster, and I literally only had one bar of energy left at the end.
But the thing that made it even easier is how the levels were cut down. In MM2, after you're done with the (admittedly easier) gauntlet, you immediately fight the hardest boss in the game for your troubles, and you only get one shot because of the horrendous ammo clip of both Atomic Fire and Crash Bombs. Fail, and you gotta suicide until you get a game over. Here, the gauntlet (almost) has its own level, Wily has his own level, and Gamma has its own level. Not to mention, whereas the alien needed to be taken care of with surgical precision, Gamma is just Rush Coil, four or five Hard Knuckles, avoid a shot or two, jump, Top Spin, done.
Edit: I got started on MM4, and the weapon selection is vastly superior so far. Rain Flush and Pharaoh Shot are both better than anything MM3 has to offer, and the Flash Stopper... oh my, I think I'm in love. Too bad it only affects one Robot Master, but then again it'd be way too broken otherwise. After the BS that was the original Time Stopper, I can say Cossack definitely knows his stuff.
