The rant about the dog was necessary, all of it. Having never played the game I wouldn't have understood otherwise. You can't trim a Slowflake rant or else one misses details that you'll probably end up pointing out later anyway, once you realise you didn't mention them.

Yeah, one thing about my ranting is that I sometimes go on way longer than I'd like to, just for the sake of clarity and completion. But I guess that's why there's such a thing as a "Slowflake rant".

As a completely unrelated note, the newest Smogon server data came out today, and with all the massive shifts it looks like the Winners and Losers might take a long, long while just to write (and by that I mean, even longer than it looked like just a month ago). Tyranitar and Rhyperior may have actually pulled themselves out of the Losers' section, Empoleon and Flygon suddenly look like they'll be Winners (jury's still out on Flygon considering its use is only rising because Chomp's out of the picture), and Hitmontop... is actually dangerously close to becoming OU!!! I'm not gonna start writing until the December data comes out, but maybe I should get a head start anyway, because geesh, I'd like the column to be done before I can see the grass outside.

For reasons unbeknownst even to me I've been playing Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine the past day. Never thought I'd see the Sonic cartoon elements implemented in a video game, even a knockoff of Puyo Pop. Funny how Sonic & Co is nowhere in the game, at all. Since I didn't watch the cartoon much I also didn't recognize any of the "enemies" other than Coconuts, Grounder and Scratch.

I've been re-reading the CT part of this thread, and while I'm not yet at the point where I start recruiting the good characters quite yet, what you said back then is going to come in handy. Right now I've come to appreciate Aura Whirl as a viable party-healing tech. It's got nothing on Heal Beam, but as I said, it's not an option right now and it won't be for quite a while after I pick up Robo.

As for the arena, I got my light smidge to evolve into a holy knight, and the first thing I tried with it was a tier 3 battle, which yielded a Silver Stud... before the trial scene! I also got an elixir after a tier 1 battle with a Robo palette swap. 100 bucks for an elixir is a steal, not unlike the TMs picked up atop the Celadon department store (mandatory LP reference, since it's my LP thread after all). Only problem though is that magic defense keeps going down for some reason... right now it's at 13, so I'm taking some major ouchies in that department, even with 4000+ HP. Strength is almost maxed out though, so at least so does the opponent. I gotta pump that MD up before I try to venture into the higher tiers (not gonna happen for a while, though, because money doesn't come in fast enough yet).

It was played on an emulator, which is an auto-reject right there. Never mind the fact that I didn't play in one sitting, so it also used savestates.

Oh, and don't be too hung up on MDef. Your big stats are speed, strength, accuracy and evasion. Then stamina. Magic relies on techs, which once you max strength and accuracy ALWAYS take a backseat to regular attacks. However, once you start noticing monsters using stat buffs, look for the equivalent of Shell (green aura I think) and then start unloading the techs as they'll do better damage.

...aw, you got my hopes up. Still looks mighty impressive.

Holy shit. My little Class 3 monster came back from training with a Prism Helm. Endgame equipment on a little training session? What were the odds of that? For what it's worth, though, not only are Prism Helms outclassed by two new ultimate helms, the idiot didn't accomplish what I sent it out to do in the first place, which was to learn a shadow tech.

Forget about any new videos this week - I caught a cold, and I don't want anyone to have to suffer through BOTH my accent and a stuffed nose.

Anyway, as for CT, I checked out the new equipment, and it seems they tried very hard to pull Marle and Lucca out of the gutter (with Ayla tagging along for the ride - she's definitely top-tier now). Problem is, Crono, Robo and Magus also got some improvements, so it doesn't look as impressive. As for Frog... poor guy looks like Dan Hibiki now. BTW, anyone know if Apocalypse Arm + Dragon's Tear is worth using on Robo? It definitely sounds nice, but I have no clue how the crit rate is calculated.

Checkmate, now I'm sure the Go To Reply link is the cause. And as an added bonus, I figured out how to make the edit appear without posting again.

Apocalypse + Tear is worth using, but it doesn't outright obsolesce the Crisis Arm. Even the Dragon Arm serves a purpose.

I used to prefer the Teraton Arm back in the day, but that was before I understood the mechanics behind the Crisis Arm.

Speaking of which, I may be completely wrong, but if I understand the Crisis Arm/Spellslinger and Wondershot formulas correctly, the average damage done by the Wondershot is higher than the damage done by the Spellslinger... when Lucca's MP ends with 9... with accuracy maxed out (so naturally it'll be even worse with 30 or so accuracy). Somehow this seems very, very wrong, especially since Lucca relies much, MUCH more on the weapon's attack power to do damage than Robo does because of the differences in their damage formulas, and to top it all off Lucca's accuracy is lightyears away from Robo's strength. But until I try the Spellslinger out (which isn't for tomorrow)... I can't say for sure.

Whatever multiplier Lucca's Spellslinger uses to determine its damage, I can assure you it bolsters the strength so much that it even surpasses Crono's Dreamseeker's critical hits. With Prism Specs. It'll take leveling to really notice the difference though, plus the weapon CAN critical itself, landing even bigger damage.

The Wondershot is horribly inconsistent and should be abandoned.

...now I'm really curious. Doesn't look like it uses the same formula as the Crisis Arm.

You think the plates are good? Did I tell you I won the Swallow at that point? I had Crono, Robo and Frog with their Ocean Palace + weapons and felt so overpowered I gave them all Berserk Rings for Flea and Slash. Fun fights.

Holy carp! That's overpowered all right. Me, I'm getting quite a few capsules... I gave a few speed ones to Robo, if only to patch up its only real weakness.
