Yeah, what they did was essentially evolve a Pokémon mid-generation. One could argue they did so for Shaymin, but both forms are different enough that the Land form, despite still being not up to snuff, isn't completely obsolete (plus it gets to benefit from Air Slash as well, even with no STAB and no Serene Grace), and more importantly they have the same BST.
And let's talk about Shaymin's stats. 127 speed tells me they designed it specifically to be a threat to Weavile. Not unlike Garchomp with that 102 speed, in fact. Why they boosted attack by 3 points, I don't know. Maybe because they want people to use Quick Attack? Sorry, but Quick Attack, Return and Bullet Seed is not enough. Especially since this isn't Mystery Dungeon. But, BUT, having ideal spreads on a legendary or 600er is a bad idea if you're going for a OU mon, because there's one of these guys that has such a spread, and it's getting banned to ubers in a short while. So 103 attack may be a blessing, since if you took 20 of those points and threw them in defenses, that puts Shaymin closer to uberdom. HP... well, they couldn't do anything to it, because alternate forms NEVER change HP. I don't know if it's because the game's programming won't allow it... that's my guess, because we now have five Pokés with alternate forms, and none of them ever change HP-wise.
Edit: Just realized something. They finally caved in and gave Scizor a punching move. If there ARE elemental punch tutors, could these be not so far behind?
Edit 2: Just wanted to throw something out there regarding the supposed fact that only Sky Shaymin gets new moves from level up, and not Origin Giratina or... I'll refer to it as Rotom-evo for the time being. Anyway, if that were true, then how the hell would it get Blizzard, Overheat and so on? It's interesting to note that Serebii didn't add the level-up lists for Rotom-evo or Origin Giratina yet, but all the others are done, including Sky Shaymin. On that same note, I was chatting with CrossDragon earlier today, and he seemed sure there was going to be an Outrage move tutor because of that supposed lack of level-up moves, and that it was supposed to be able to learn Outrage. I don't know the first thing about programming of any kind, but I'd keep my mind open and eyes peeled when it comes to Rotom-evo and Origin Giratina.
Edit 3: Serebii added the mini-sprites from the PC boxes for Rotom-evo, Origin Giratina and Sky Shaymin in the listings per type. Not a very interesting piece of news, except that Origin Giratina looks pretty bloated. Of course, with the zillion appendages this thing has, it's hard to make it look better with so little room to work with. Also, it looks practically certain that all Rotom forms share the same typing as the vanilla one. Anyway, that guy's still up? Isn't it, like, 2 AM in the UK?
