Nidoking doesn't have really big base attack. Hell I don't consider it "big" until you hit base 115. Strong, yes. Big, let alone really big? Nah, not Nido.

As for Rhyperior, or anyone within its evolution line, it gets a special exemption because Rhydon is the first Pokemon the creator invented and is his favorite. It's out of favoritism that he bulks its movepool more than anyone else.

Nidoking got it on the basis that Nidoqueen already learned it by level-up, I think.

BTW, massive improvement for Parasect in the form of Seed Bomb and Knock Off. Now, if it could, I don't know, EVOLVE or something...

...as for the Rhydon being favorite or whatever, is it why the substitutes resemble Rhydon, you think? Also, if it's the first one created, and the first one in the game code, it might explain why it's involved in so many glitches in RBY...

Perhaps. Rhydon does have a very generic monster shape, as far as dino-based is concerned. It's kind of easy to see how that'd be one of the first designs that came to mind when he tried thinking of creatures.

Magnemite was probably the result of a clichéd "mostly eyeball" monster. Somewhere down the line he thought eyelids and dangling veins would be better represented by screws and magnets.

Say Slowflake, glancing through a favorite Eeveelution topic on Gfaqs made me wonder if you'd ever done a topic/rant on a list of the worst Pokes.. ..with good BSTs or otherwise good stats in the right places. Flareon immediately popped up not because it'd be good with decent moves but because its movepool just compounds on its faults so badly. In that case, a rant about Pokes with respectable BSTs but awful moves?

Never did one, and I'm not planning on writing anything for the rest of the year. The Winners and Losers are going to be insanely long this year (especially the winners part), so I don't want to get to early January with no desire to write it, or worse, writer's block.

Does anyone who owns the game know it the GTS-trade-evolution-glitch still works like in Diamond/Pearl?

I really hope D-nite is in that winners list... It got fucking Superpower and THAT made him a wall breaker even better than fucking Boah. A-Nite just screams "BOOYAH!"

EDIT: Wall breaking Nite, which I call A-Nite (as in Atomic Nite >_>)

Dragonite@Life Orb
Nature: Naughty
EVs: 170 Atk, 216 SpAtk, 124 Spd

Scores OHKO's and 2HKO's in pretty much every wall except Cresselia.

Well, that depends on how effective it turns out to be. But it does sound promising, especially since our friend Salamence didn't get it, and unlike most Superpower users, Dragonite has the stats to use Superpower like a primarily physical attacker would use Overheat instead of being exclusively a hit-and-run strategy.

And it's going to NEED to be effective, as Dragonite was headed straight for the Losers section before Platinum and Garchomp's ban. Why? Well, I put it in the Winners last year because of DD + Outrage, but it turned out Garchomp's SD + Outrage had enough speed to go around, relegating Dragonite to even more disuse. Heck, one could make a case for Dragonite needing Garchomp away to regain some credibility actually being a bad thing.

Edit: In addition to the Iron Defense cocoons, all babies (except Riolu for whatever reason) learn Uproar, while their evos can't. Unlike Iron Defense though, Uproar is utterly worthless. (Except for the fact that Azelf coming with it makes it much easier to catch if you have a Spiritomb, but that's another thing entirely.)

I never liked DD + Outrage on Nite in the first place, in fact I'd have gone so far as to say it's ineffective outside of lategame.

CB Nite on the other hand, incredibly effective, especially when you predict the steel switch and Focus Punch it to death. And CB Nite is going to be even more effective now with Superpower.

What I'm looking forward to, personally, is seeing moves that were absolutely never used finally have their time in the sun. Superpower's a decent move that rarely, if ever, got used by its learnbase, and worse, was nothing more than Close Combat's shadow, and now it at least found a niche by being given out to the hosses. Heat Wave's new learnbase is questionable (I fail to see how flying makes one competent at stirring heat waves), but it's a godsend for a lot of Pokés.

What I'm wondering, though, is how Swampert is going to fare now. It picked up Earth Power, Outrage and Superpower, but go to the spoils topic and Ctrl+F Seed Bomb. It's ridiculous. On the flip side, though, there are only four Pokés above UU that didn't have a Grass move and now do (Snorlax, Ursaring, Donphan, Ambipom)... hmmm.

But even with the really random Heat Wave, Gunk Shot and Seed Bomb learners, my WTF award goes to Steelix, who does NOT learn Iron Defense (you'd think after all that time it'd know it somehow), but what it DOES get is... Magnet Rise. As a side note, Aggron, Bastiodon and Lucario getting Magnet Rise as well is ridiculous too. But at least I can see the first two using it, especially with Earth Power gaining a lot of new users...

Yeah, Swampert scored some nice crap this time around. I was surprised by the number of new Seed Bombers, but unfortunately as some Smogoners pointed out, a lot of these movepools have "requirements" or otherwise important staples that make Seed Bomb the nice move that still doesn't make the cut. Especially Donphan.

So, Official Server has been updated with the Platinum moves. No new sprites yet, and no sprites for the Rotom/Sky-Shaymin/Origin Giratina forms yet. But it's a start.

I just noticed that Omastar gets Earth Power. Yes, please. It's movepool is starving just a little less now, and it can hit steels and electrics without needing to rely on the rather UNreliable Hydro Pump. Type coverage alongside Ice Beam isn't too crappy. I guess Grass Knot is asking too much, so HP Electric stays. =/

I'm a big fan of Drizzle teams (though not necessarily in Ubers) and an even bigger fan of Omastar. Alongside Lapras, Slowbro and Swampert it's one of my favorite waters.

I'm a bit surprised they did that this quick, considering there are still several NFEs that haven't been checked. But since no one cares about these anyway...

Also, Apparently the Smogon Server has it now as well.

Edit: I take it back. Smogon doesn't have it yet. Official for now.

With STAB? 135.

Edit: Oh wait, I understand why you withdrew that question... Smeargle being the only Technician user that can get Bug Bite and all.

Edit 2: Serebii just added the move tutor compatibility to the Dex. It's so recent I'm reporting this BEFORE Serebii's front page!

Edit 3: According to Smogon, earlier today the Attackdex had a bug where Iron Head's tutor learnbase appeared under Head Smash. Oh, if only that were the case... *winkwinkaerocoughcough*
