I enter the shoddy arena once more--after being away for some time with Portable Ops Plus--my new team of pokemon ready and itching for a taste of battle after all our difficult training. Off in the distance, we spot a challenger...

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause

my team:

NinjaShark's team:

NinjaShark sent out Gengar (lvl 100 Gengar ?).
gamer_reloaded sent out Staraptor (lvl 100 Staraptor ?).
Staraptor's intimidate cut Gengar's attack!

gamer_reloaded: hi
NinjaShark: hi

Gengar used Hypnosis.
Gengar's attack missed!
Staraptor used Brave Bird.
Gengar lost 100% of its health.
NinjaShark's Gengar fainted.
Staraptor was hit by recoil!
Staraptor lost 28% of its health.

As we exchange friendly greetings, Staraptor senses his prey's weakness right away. His demeanor is such that his victim's concentration falters an instant too soon, and fails to lull Staraptor to sleep. Staraptor uses the opportunity to strike swiftly...

Lugio has entered the room.
NinjaShark switched in Vaporeon (lvl 100 Vaporeon ?).
gamer_reloaded switched in Gardevoir (lvl 100 Gardevoir ?).
Gardevoir traced Vaporeon's Water Absorb!
Vaporeon used Ice Beam.
Gardevoir lost 17% of its health.
Gardevoir's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gardevoir restored 6% of its health.

---
A passer-by coming through notices the battle and lingers to watch while I call Staraptor back to keep him safe from the ice beam that was surely headed for him.

NinjaShark switched in Celebi (lvl 100 Celebi).
Gardevoir used Hypnosis.
Celebi fell asleep!
Gardevoir's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gardevoir restored 6% of its health.

---
Unsure of what to expect, I told Gardevoir to be ready with a hypnosis attack, and to remain vigilant and unyielding, unlike my opponent's unfortunate Gengar. Never mind that before Gardevoir appeared the mythical timetraveller, Celebi!

NinjaShark switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
gamer_reloaded switched in Staraptor (lvl 100 Staraptor ?).
Staraptor's intimidate cut Heatran's attack!

---
Sensing an opportunity, I call Staraptor back out to deal more carnage. My opponent must have seen it in my face, and panicked. Seems he spooks easily, I thought. Maybe I can use this to my advantage....

NinjaShark switched in Gyarados (lvl 100 Gyarados ?).
Gyarados's intimidate cut Staraptor's attack!
Staraptor used Brave Bird.
Gyarados lost 77% of its health.
Staraptor was hit by recoil!
Staraptor lost 29% of its health.
Gyarados's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gyarados restored 6% of its health.

---

As I was in shock of seeing a truly one of a kind pokemon, the fabled Heatran, in the smoldering flesh, I noticed its smooth, iron-like skin. Just as I was about to tell Staraptor to get up close and personal, my gut feeling told me--He's up to something. Staraptor, go!

NinjaShark switched in Vaporeon (lvl 100 Vaporeon ?).
gamer_reloaded switched in Steelix (lvl 100 Steelix ?).

Seems I was right. My opponent's Gyarados's impeding looks must have startled Staraptor; for a brief moment before his devastating impact, Staraptor backed off the attack, preventing the blow from being as lethal as it could have been. Alternately, Staraptor still managed to inflict a large injury. Large enough for my adversary to back his Gyarados, and his offense, back into his pokeball and into a defensive position. As he re-released Vaporeon, I retreated my now shaken bird of prey for my steel snake. It seems that despite his hasty decision, he now had the advantage over me...
---
Lugio: ^('o'^)
Vaporeon used Surf.
It's super effective!
Steelix lost 98% of its health.
Steelix used Screech.
Vaporeon's defence was harshly lowered.
---
Lugio: SCREECH?!
Vaporeon used Surf.
It's super effective!
Steelix lost 2% of its health.
gamer_reloaded's Steelix fainted.

---
Seeing my predicament, I attempted to strong-arm my opponent back into a defensive position by having Steelix unleash a deafening sound not unlike two large pieces of metal rubbing violently against each other. My opponent and his Vaporeon were not rattled by this, and Steelix was soon swept away much more easily than I anticipated.

Tie 5 - 5

gamer_reloaded switched in Shiftry (lvl 100 Shiftry ?).
NinjaShark switched in Celebi (lvl 100 Celebi).
Shiftry used Dark Pulse.
It's super effective!
A critical hit!
Celebi lost 100% of its health.
NinjaShark's Celebi fainted.
Shiftry lost 10% of its health.

---
As Steelix came back to his ball, I decided to deal with this threat permanently. But as Shiftry exited his pokeball, I noticed a confused look on Shark's face. Seems he had never seen one before. I grinned slyly--He's going to use Celebi to test the waters. Not if I have something to say about that....

gamer_reloaded 5 - 4

NinjaShark switched in Heatran (lvl 100 Heatran ?).
Lugio: now im rootin for ninja shark instead
Lugio: GO NINJASHARK!
Shiftry used Focus Blast.
Shiftry's attack missed!
Heatran used Lava Plume.
It's super effective!
Shiftry lost 90% of its health.
gamer_reloaded's Shiftry fainted.

---
Damn. Took out one legend, only to be decimated by another. If only Shiftry's focus had been better.

NinjaShark: GRAAAAAH ANGER
Gardevoir used Hypnosis.
Heatran fell asleep!
Heatran is fast asleep!
Gardevoir's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gardevoir restored 5% of its health.

---
Our spectator can no longer hold in his excitement as the battle continues to rage back and forth. Gardevoir's steadfastness continues to hold as she puts the monster of Stark Mountain to rest. Funny, but I see my opponent smiling....

Gardevoir used Wish.
Gardevoir made a wish!
Heatran is fast asleep!
Heatran used Sleep Talk.
Heatran used Rest.
But it failed!

---
That was close. Too close. It may have shaken me into making more mistakes. Unsure of what to do, I call Staraptor, now fully recovered from its previous scare, back into action.

NinjaShark: BOLLOCKS
NinjaShark: there goes my element of surprise
gamer_reloaded switched in Staraptor (lvl 100 Staraptor ?).
Staraptor's intimidate cut Heatran's attack!
Heatran woke up!
Heatran used Sleep Talk.
But it failed!
The wish came true!
Staraptor restored 50% of its health.

---
I realized too late the potential danger I had put Staraptor in. Lucklily, an otherwise costly mistake went unpunished. At this point I saw an opening. I took it.

NinjaShark: ...wut.
NinjaShark: WUT.

Staraptor used Close Combat.
It's super effective!
Heatran lost 100% of its health.
NinjaShark's Heatran fainted.
Staraptor's defence was lowered.

Gardevoir used Thunder Wave.
Vaporeon is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Vaporeon used Surf.
Gardevoir's Water Absorb absorbed damage!
Gardevoir restored 9% of its health.

---
Our spectator begins losing his mind at the excitement of the battle as once again Vaporeon and Gardevoir face off. This time though, the threat of interruption is greatly reduced. Gardevoir is able to easily subdue Vaporeon with a powerful series of psychic attacks after crippling it with as Thunder Wave [several turns omitted]. Afterwards, she heals herself with a wish as she finishes Vaporeon off.

NinjaShark: GO HAX
Garchomp used Outrage.
Gardevoir lost 12% of its health.
gamer_reloaded's Gardevoir fainted.
Garchomp's rampage ended.
Garchomp became confused!

---
It seems clear now why my opponent's moniker was what it was. His trump card. Such an intimidating, powerful specimen, that even though it failed to incapacitate Gardevoir in a single hit, it managed to destroy her morale enough that she lost her will to fight and loses her focus at the most critical moment of the battle.

gamer_reloaded 3 - 2

gamer_reloaded switched in Drapion (lvl 100 Drapion ?).
Lugio: GO G_R!!

Drapion fought well, but Gyarados weakened him substantially. I wasn't sure what to do to secure a victory....

Garchomp went on a rampage!
Drapion lost 21% of its health.
gamer_reloaded's Drapion fainted.

I directed Drapion to knock off the Garchomp's blue scarf. Doing so would ensure a victory! But Garchomp was too quick to finish off the battered Drapion. It seems our fate had just been sealed...

NinjaShark's Garchomp fainted.
gamer_reloaded wins!

......! Holy Arceus, what happened? As if in a haze, my opponent's monster lay slain at the talons of my faithful, bruised eagle. All three of us watched in awe. In all its rage, it must have tired out, just as Lugio had predicted, giving Staraptor the opportunity to deal a decisive blow. I hugged my favorite bird of prey and promised him his favorite dinner: whole, fried feebas. He deserved it!

Props:
-NinjaShark, for being a good sport and giving a good match
-Me, for generally good prediction skills through most of the match
-Staraptor, for being awesome throughout
-Gardevoir, for providing excellent support and taking down an otherwise troublesome Vaporeon
-Shiftry, for psyching out NinjaShark into giving me his Celebi for free
-Drapion, for finally taking out Gyarados
-The gods of hax, who helped me at critical points and netted me the win
-Lugio, for sticking around and watching the whole thing without being (too) disruptive

Slops:
-Me, for generally sucking on my predictions in the endgame
-Me, for getting Steelix killed off like a dumbass
-Me, for not killing off Gyarados with enough health left to knock off that damn choice scarf
-Gardevoir, for missing with hypnosis against Garchomp
-NinjaShark, for being easily outpredicted
-Lugio, for constantly jumping the fence

Hope you enjoyed. As always, comments and questions are encouraged. Thanks for reading

Although the battle wasn't the best ever it was interesting enough, along with the great commentary and formatting, to keep my hooked. Great job g_r, 4/5!

[rant]I just realized while fixing the formatting that this is how any typical match of mine would play out before Garchomp became uber (regardless of which team I used).....except I won this one because of confuhax. God, I'm so glad that mofo's up with Mewtwo where he belongs [/rant]

Lugio amused me, not only because he wouldn't shut up but basically cheered any time anything happened for either player. Though it might've been all the exclamation points..
