Platinum is two years overdue imo: Gold, Silver, Platinum makes much more sense than GS Crystal.

The Regigigas and Shaymin thing is really out of the blue as well. Giratina's expected, but not these two.

Battle Frontier was due to come back, so it would be no surprise. How it wasn't in D/P is beyond me, unless it's just that they were holding back for the third game. Volkner no longer a gym leader? If that's the case, previous patterns say he'd move up to champion.

Those last few things are believable, but the first two are just WTF. I'm thinking there's a good chance that some of it is true, and the rest is fake.

I'm pretty sceptical towards Regigigas and Shaymin getting another form, but who knows...

It does seem pretty pointless to add a new island similar to Emerald's Battle Frontier when they already have an island for stuff like that but whatever. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what's true and what's not.

Well, to be fair, there ARE copyrights on the Sky and Land forms. Whether they're related to Shaymin and Regigigas are another animal entirely.

Somehow I doubt that's true, because it raises the point of compatibility between D/P and the third game. AFAIK each third gen game had data for the other versions of Deoxys, and D/P has no such thing for Regigigas and Shaymin. But if it IS true, Regigigas will be instantly sent to ubers.

Heh, Shaymin gets a new Stab which is much needed at the cost of a SR Weak. I'm also guessing it gets stronger moves ice moves aside from HP Ice thanks to it's Ice Typing? Hopefully Ice Beam or something. That way it can make a Weaker Boltbeam thanks to HP Elec.

Sorry, but I just don't like Abomasnow's typing, especially when there's no real redeeming feature like Abomasnow has.

Then again, I'm not buying this at all for reasons I've already explained. Heck, according to Serebii, even the blog where this comes from is skeptical, and got some stuff right and other stuff wrong before DP.

But just assuming for a moment that this might be real. Giratina gets Levitate, does that mean Roost isn't far behind? It's already a very valuable asset thanks to ES Arceus running around, and an instant recovery move would be the end for Lugia.

Giratina with Levitate would certainly be interesting, and as Slowflake says, if it gets a reliable healing move, it certainly gives some much-needed competition to Lugia. Obviously, though, Giratina would still not be the end-all-wall, unless you like Rayquaza ripping through your team. Interestingly enough, though, Giratina would end up being the best counter to a Slow Start-less Regigigas. Shaymin having an Ice typing? ...Why? Aside from the fact that I don't know why it would happen in the first place, it wouldn't do too much except completely obliterate Shaymin's chances to be comparable to Celebi in the walling sense. Offensively, though, it would be pretty fearsome, since Seed Flare, as strong of a move as it is, is walled by Flyers and Dragons, both of which a STAB Ice Beam will handily eliminate. An extra moveslot means that Shaymin will be able to pack a different HP type to eliminate its new counters (Heatran, Bronzong, etc.)

Pokemon Platinum? I don't really understand this one too well; the name doesn't make any sense when compared to Diamond and Pearl, and it doesn't even have a website. Who is Volkner? It's been a while since I've played in-game. Battle Island is something I would look forward to, especially if it means the addition of new move tutors...I'm sure this would cause the metagame to change quickly.

If Shaymin gets that Grass/Ice typing, it'll basically be a better Abomasnow without the Focus Punch. Shaymin might even be moved into OU quite possibly, if it gets more moves and a better self recovery move aside from Synthesis. Recover would be nice, but then it would just be a weaker Celebi, and won't be able to wall. Though I can see it being a great attacker. Seed Flare/Ice Beam/HP Elec,Ground/Recovery Move? It's quite possible.

Actually, when I said redeeming feature I was thinking of perma-Hail, but Focus Punch works too.

At any rate, the suspense won't last too long - by Thursday we'll know everything. Hopefully.

Edit, May 11: Title confirmed to be Platinum. I'm genuinely shocked at this. Origin Form Giratina's going to be there too. I'm wondering how it'll affect compatibility with Diamond and Pearl, unless it's just a storyline thing and it's not really playable.

Heh, New Plot possibly? I wonder how this will affect the Metagame. <_< Regigigas who was dubbed Regifail will definitely move up to OU or even Uber thanks to Levitate. Shaymin could possibly go up to OU if it gets new moves. And Giratina might even replace Lugia in Ubers. Game Breaking I know.

The moment Regigigas gets rid of Slow Start, even if it's not something as beneficial as Levitate, it WILL go to ubers without delay. Only three Pokémon would hit harder than it - Medicham, Azumarill and Marowak. All three have their drawbacks, but Regigigas just wouldn't have any. 110/110/110 in defenses is simply abusive, there's 100 speed, and that movepool... oh my gosh. There's all the physical standards - edgequake, elemental punches, Focus Punch, even STABbed Return. The big downside is the lack of stat boosts (aside from Rock Polish), but that's what Choice items are for. I'm not sure how Rock Polish + Return Regigigas would stack up compared to ES Arceus, but it could be a beast that would mow down everything in OU nonetheless. The rumored additions of Iron Head and Icy Wind would mean jack squat, though.

Then again, this is just speculation, there's still no official word on Levitating Giratina and Regigigas.

Now, I'd like to point out something. When D/P came out, several people thought that with the advent of deities of time, space and dimensions, as well as the creator Arceus, the series seemed to be coming to an end. After all, no one has any clue what could possibly come after that. And now that the new game is named Platinum, it goes in the same direction. What can possibly come after Platinum? Just about anything anyone can come up with would sound like a downgrade. Now, I'm not saying this is the end of Pokémon, especially not with how much money the series brings into Nintendo's pockets. But they're really making it look like they're going to wrap up the series with this game, and an eventual 12th movie featuring Arceus. Any thoughts?

I couldn't find anything for Gira, really, except for one lead. Nintendo usually bases names off of something, but it may not be the case. Google searches and translations brought up nothing. Only one thing was found...

Girare apparently means "travel" in Italian. With the origin form being introduced, Giratina might, translated literally, mean "Traveling Platinum". Giratina does have a sort of platinum plating on it, which would explain that part. If the Origin form does move through dimensions, then that might be one explanation for it's name.

I still don't like the transition from precious gems to platinum, however.

That's interesting, but I don't think that's what they had in mind. They usually keep foreign words for the English names, like Gardevoir, Dusknoir, etc.

And yes, hopefully it's Volt Tackle. Spark being a given Pokémon's best move is a sick, sick joke. Knowing the folks at Nintendo, though, it'll be something useless like Uproar. Or, why not the almighty THUNDERSHOCK~!

Guillotine does sound a little weird, considering Giratina is more of a wall than a sweeper. No, just because the name sounds slightly similar doesn't mean that there is any connection.

I thought about Volkner being Champion, but there is no way they can give him a feasible team of six without shattering his electric preference OR straying into non-Sinnoh Pokes. As cool as it would be to fight lv60-66 Magnezone, Electivire, etc I highly doubt they'd do it.

Then again, it would go along with his getting tired of being a Gym Leader and going for the E4. Guess that'd make Cynthia a wanderer like Steven.

I hope they let us rechallenge gym leaders again, though.

As for a possible new trait for Regigigas, if not Levitate they'd probably do something stupid like giving it Normal Skin, so no one would want to use it anymore anyway. As for giving it an absolutely ridiculous trait, there's Huge Power and to a lesser extent Scrappy.

Not to mention, Volkner already had an Ambipom and an Octillery on his team. Like it or not, there's only three Electric final forms in the Sinnoh Dex, and if Gamefreak judged Pachirisu wasn't worth giving to the final gym leader, giving it to the champion is out of the question. (Then again, why are we facing Beautifly and Dustox, arguably even worse than Pachirisu, in the E4?)

The suggestion of Regigigas getting Normal Skin raises an interesting question... would THAT be enough to keep it off uberland? We didn't have to discuss that ability before since Delcatty is solidly NU even with Cute Charm, but what if a better Pokémon with only a detrimental ability got it? Of course, the sole fact that you couldn't hit Ghosts, even with T-Wave, would likely doom Gigas to OU at best. But which would you use between Slow Start and Normal Skin?

Speaking of which, next gen they should change Normal Skin so that the Pokémon gets the STAB bonus on everything, without changing the move's type.

With absolutely zero type coverage its only use ever would be as a late game sweeper, after you're sure you killed the opponent's ghost and steel. And in most cases their rocks, too.

Its moveset would also be very weird to say the least. Forgoing viability for sheer base power and/or side effects. Focus Punch (strongest move it'd have aside from the hyper/giga, lol) Drain Punch, Fling, Rock Slide, Thunder Wave, and the obligatory Return/Crush Grip. There's not much.
