I finally broke Silver Rank. I swear to god, the Sand Pit Dungeon hates me. I either get Monster Housed or Fury Swipes/Pin Missle owned. If not Tyranitar Dark Pulses me. Oh How I would love to get him.
I got bad news for you: unless you like doing lots of optional missions (like I do), it's going to go uphill from there. The thing that makes Mt. Bristle so hard from a theoretical standpoint, however, is that it's the last dungeon you have to do before being allowed to go back to previous ones to do missions and level up.

But it's all good: MD1 was too easy for the most part, and the major sources of difficulty were merely huge irritants. I'm looking at you, ghosts in Sky Tower.
I've actually been doing a lot of the optional missions. I got through that area a few hours ago, and have found the last couple of areas to be rather simple (although the forest was getting on my nerves, because to me it felt like it was going on forever).

I'm going to switch out the Shellos on my team, for being a major annoyance in the forest (I'm going to waste all two of your hard-earned revival seeds be dieing in one hit due to my crappy HP, then I'll continue to heal paras with water pulse, even though I have two other attack moves that can deal damage to it!). I don't know what yet, but I might change it with a recruited Budew.

Spoilers ahead.

Well I beat Dialga and I gotta say, it was hard as hell, Roar of Time is ranged and hit both me (Turtwig) and Mudkip for over half of our HP, and with Grass and Water attacks both doing squat to him, it wasn't fun. I really got lucky he didn't critical me with any of his moves, else I would have died, most of the time when I got to him before beating him he started off immediately with Roar of Time, crit one of my guys, and killed them in one shot, either resulting in wasting a Reviver Seed or having to start 10 floors back, painful expierience.

Wait, so that means Roar of Time hits all enemies in the room, only with a recharge turn?

Anyway, I thought you'd like to know, Grass and Water both do 0.81x to Dialga, due to the way resistances work. That means STABbed moves of these types are still stronger than non-STABbed neutral moves.

As for me, I completed the expedition yesterday, but there's a small problem... Steam Cave isn't in the dungeon selection menu! How am I going to recruit Pokémon there, especially Uxie once the time comes? What's happening there? Am I experiencing a glitch of some sort?

Speaking of accessing dungeons, here's a code I think you'll like. It unlocks Serenity River, one of the dungeons that really don't do anything.

Let's explore a wild territory!

Slowflake, I'm not sure it's a glitch because I never noticed in my game, but it should be fine, I think it's because of the part you're at, so no recruiting til later in the game.

Also, just beat darkrai. It's a bitch without reviver seeds, especially that dungeon. It's mostly stocked with fires, and with totodile it was hell ( water attack wasn't a ohko on some, and there was fire starters. Blaze + ember = gg). Anyway, I'm going to recruit dialga and palkia right now, and then finally I can evolve.

So it's confirmed that all you have to do is recruit Dialga and Palkia? And as for Steam Cave... well, okay, but there's a dot on the map marking it and everything, heck, they even showed the clouds on that area of the map being dispelled, so I really wonder what's happening.

GameFAQs' board has quite a few WM codes, including those for the version exclusives... I think everyone should go check them out. Hopefully there's a Bullet Seed code somewhere that's in an early dungeon.

I finally found a few species-exclusive items... what's fun about them is that they work like Diablo 2's charms, in that you don't need to equip them to get the bonus, freeing up the equipment slot for something else. What's much less fun about them, though, is the miserable bonuses the 1-star ones give. I have only one I can use right now, Torchic's Card, and it gives a pitiful boost of 3 SD. Now, D2's charm bonuses were hardly stellar, but at least every character could use them and get something useful from it (except for spellcasters who don't give a **** about dexterity and attack rating). Here though they only work on three Pokés max, so I expected a solid bonus. Oh well, at least the 3-star items kick ass for the most part, even those that aren't Togetic's.

As for the actual game... next dungeon marks the debut of two of the game's hardest features, Monster Houses and multi-target bosses, so you bet I'm going to do some training 'till then. I'm going to unlock as many optional dungeons as I can for now, provided GFAQs' codes give me missions in early dungeons. As well as Combee, Riolu and Pachirisu, of course.

Actually, I don't know if it's confirmed or not, but I have dialga and I'm going for palkia (Was almost there, then moster house'd). So I should know if it works soon.

Geez, the way you people talk about Monster Houses, they mean instant loss in this game. I wonder if me picking the most WMD-esque starter will mean anything.

Well I've recruited palkia and dialga and I remain evolutionless (lol is that even a word?). This sucks; I've no idea wtf to do to evolve now. Oh well, maybe if i do some optional missions something will happen.

I looked on GameFAQs, and apparently after doing some missions something happens. So just keep going. Apparently after a few missions Manaphy will return and join your team for good or something. Maybe that's what you need? Anyway, the reason why you can't evolve until then is because the designers weren't assed to make emote face shots for the starter's evolved forms, so maybe the key is to clear all the scenes where such shots appear.

Hmmm... maybe, but in a topic i made someone said getting manaphy back doesn't do anything. Oh well, mine as well try...

Edit: Nope, didn't do a thing.

Edit 2: HAHAHA YES! getting access to the marine resort ( i think that's what it's called) and getting a phione allows me to evolve.

Okay, now all we have to do is get Serebii to post the info on his front page so that the neverending flood of topics in all the message boards of the universe will stop.

As a side note, who woulda thunk PHIONE would be the key to something so important? Wow.

Well it could be phione or the marine resort, or both, im not sure. I'll submit to gfaq cheats and see what happens

Yeah, not a bad idea. I don't know if it'll pass, though: the actual requirements have been a huge apple of discord for the past week.

As for the Steam Cave thing, I looked around, and apparently it's perfectly normal. Turns out I won't be able to go back there for a while (presumably not until I beat Dialga). However, someone said I couldn't recruit Pokémon other than Uxie in that dungeon. So could someone who regained access there go and look what turns up in the recruitment search window to see if it's true or not?

Thanks.

I'm going on an unlocking spree today, as I already unlocked Riolu and Combee, as well as five of the six unlockable dungeons I can get at this point (the last one being Lush Prairie). Pachirisu's coming right up.

I realized that even though Geodude's stats aren't up to par with the rest of my team (though they're still better than nearly everything else I've got, bar maybe Machop and Riolu), with some micromanagement it can be a nasty boss/criminal killer. I think everyone already does this - activate Exclusive Move User on everyone and lock down all attacks but their strongest. Well, locking down everything but Rock Polish on the first turn, then locking it and unlocking the main Rock attack I'm using at this point usually means death to the enemy if it's not gone by then. Right now it's Rock Throw, but with Rollout, then Rock Blast, waiting in the wings, things are going to get ugly. The problem, however, is that Rock Polish has to be kept locked down any other time, as Geodude gulps down its PP pretty fast by using it when enemies it can't even attack are nearby.

When I unlocked Riolu, it was via an escort mission, and the Riolu offered to join me, so that's how I have one before Amp Plains. Anyway, the base stats are simply stellar, but the stat growth is unbelievably erratic - one level it gets 1 point in three stats, next level it gets 2 everywhere and so on. Problem is, like Surskit, it gets most of its arsenal when evolving. Unlike Surskit, though, Riolu needs to gobble down a metric ton of gummis, and said gummis are a much better placement on Bulbasaur and Torchic. So I'm going to be keeping Geodude on my team for a while longer, thank you very much. But if you're prepared to give Riolu its fair share of gummis, it's not a bad idea for your team. Reversal for one is much, much more powerful than in the main games.

Edit: My Bulbasaur just got a great IQ skill, Gap Prober, which allows its projectiles to go straight through allies. Nothing quite says awesome like hiding behind your three other Pokés and peppering Bullet Seed all over the place.

Heh, I never use gummies, in my storage I have about maybe 50 or so assorted ones. Also, wtf at the master rank points needed ( i think that's what's after the one im at) It's freaking 62722 my god, I thouht 4k was a lot, but this?

I've finally beaten the game. Dialga wasn't as hard as gameboy made it out to be. Sleep Seeds/Sleep are/is useless against it. It wakes up in like 2 turns the most. Meanwhile, X-Eye Seeds are life savors. Teaching Brick Break to Chimchar also helped. IIRC, it Roar of Timed me once. And that didn't even kill my Turtwig, it killed me aka Chimchar though. But that's what Reviver Seeds are for. Right now, I can't beat the Wigglytuff Guild. It's virtually a damn monster house as a boss.

So I'd assume Dialga has the Self-Curer IQ skill? Thanks for the warning.

I just recruited a Kabuto through a mission, and I noticed its stat growth is freaking awesome. There's just one problem, though: the natural movepool is poo-poo. However, I have an excess of Water Pulse TMs, so if I ever decide to use it I'm gonna use one. But do I use it? Geodude has the cheesy Rock Polish + Rock Blast combo, but Kabuto's stats tower over Geodude's.

...nah, I'm staying with Geodude, at the very least until I recruit something that gets Recycle. After that I basically get limitless TMs of the kinds I've got so I can tack Rock Polish (among others) on a lot of stuff, but for now natural Rock Polish and Rock Blast is EVIL.

Edit: I just got my first egg from a mission where I had to escort a Magmar to the third floor of Tiny Meadow. Easy as pie. Now, I know the egg is either a Starly, a Hoppip or a Shroomish. Hoping for the latter, because with Spore being the grown-up version of Sleep Powder, Paras' stats sucking and me not expecting Smeargle to be much better, I could use a Shroomish with improved stats.

60000+ points to reach the last rank? Hoo boy, that's a lot of 5*-rank missions there. The reward BETTER be unlimited storage, and even there that'd be somewhat of a rip-off. For that many points I should be getting 72 virgins (and NOT the Family Guy version).
