Thanks.
I'm going on an unlocking spree today, as I already unlocked Riolu and Combee, as well as five of the six unlockable dungeons I can get at this point (the last one being Lush Prairie). Pachirisu's coming right up.
I realized that even though Geodude's stats aren't up to par with the rest of my team (though they're still better than nearly everything else I've got, bar maybe Machop and Riolu), with some micromanagement it can be a nasty boss/criminal killer. I think everyone already does this - activate Exclusive Move User on everyone and lock down all attacks but their strongest. Well, locking down everything but Rock Polish on the first turn, then locking it and unlocking the main Rock attack I'm using at this point usually means death to the enemy if it's not gone by then. Right now it's Rock Throw, but with Rollout, then Rock Blast, waiting in the wings, things are going to get ugly. The problem, however, is that Rock Polish has to be kept locked down any other time, as Geodude gulps down its PP pretty fast by using it when enemies it can't even attack are nearby.
When I unlocked Riolu, it was via an escort mission, and the Riolu offered to join me, so that's how I have one before Amp Plains. Anyway, the base stats are simply stellar, but the stat growth is unbelievably erratic - one level it gets 1 point in three stats, next level it gets 2 everywhere and so on. Problem is, like Surskit, it gets most of its arsenal when evolving. Unlike Surskit, though, Riolu needs to gobble down a metric ton of gummis, and said gummis are a much better placement on Bulbasaur and Torchic. So I'm going to be keeping Geodude on my team for a while longer, thank you very much. But if you're prepared to give Riolu its fair share of gummis, it's not a bad idea for your team. Reversal for one is much, much more powerful than in the main games.
Edit: My Bulbasaur just got a great IQ skill, Gap Prober, which allows its projectiles to go straight through allies. Nothing quite says awesome like hiding behind your three other Pokés and peppering Bullet Seed all over the place.
