I posted a similar topic on GameFAQs a few minutes ago, but I figured I'd be a traitor if I didn't post it here as well.

Have you ever stayed home from school while you were expected to be present in one or several classes? If so, why did you it? If not, what's keeping you from doing it?
If you skip school, do you tell your parents you did? Do you fake to be sick and make them write a note/call the school for you to make it look like you're not doing anything that's not allowed?
If you decide to respond, please tell us whether you're in college or high school (I doubt anyone is in elementary school here...), because policies regarding the act of skipping schools vary heavily depending on the level of education you're attending as far as I know.
I skip school occasionally (as a matter of fact, I'm typing this up from my laptop at home while I should be outdoors, "having fun" with my gymnastics class), but only when I feel I have a "valid reason" to. I don't know whether I'm fooling myself or if I'm really "doing what's right" (I'm obviously not doing the right thing by not going to school, but I hope you get my point here), but I've never felt bad about it. It's not like I consider the act of skipping school as something normal, it's still a pretty hard decision to make when I'm actually considering it (stay home or go to school?), so I'm not taking school in general all that lightly. I just don't see the big deal in staying home every once in a while if I know I can keep up with the rest of my class just fine.
For anyone who didn't know yet, I'm still in high school, with 1.3 more years to go until college.[/QUOTE]
I don't skip school often, I actually do it very unfrequently. Just every once in a while, I stay home when I don't think the classes will really be worth my time, as in, they'll teach me something I absolutely need to know.
So far this attitude hasn't come after me to bite me in the ass so I really don't see a problem with me skipping school every now and then. However, I'm interested to hear other people's opinions, which is why I made this topic.
Off-topic: I can't get on IRC because I glined myself <_<
Okay, really on topic. I do it when I honestly don't have my work done. I feel ashamed to go to school without it. It's in my stomach. and I always have to be truthful with my teachers. I never, ever, lie to them. Lying got me into three years of complete shit with my teachers, and even at this level, I regret that. I'm an 80% student, that if I tried could get ninties
When you decide to not go to school, do you just stay home, or do you ask your parents to call you sick?
I glined myself tonight for 12 hours because I needed to do my homework. I figured, I'll be in school anyway... which I apparently am not lol. Anyway, it's a good thing I glined myself, because now I've actually made some of my homework. My gline will be lifted in a few minutes, but I got to go in 20 anyway.
I see. I usually just stay home myself. I know my parents won't let me stay home anyway, so I don't bother asking them. I just hope and pray my school doesn't notice I'm gone.
There really isn't much reason to skip school, although there isn't a good reason to be in school either.
If you do, the most important thing is to find out what happened in class that day so it's like you were never gone so if it starts to happen a lot you're still on top of things.
Skipping school when you know they're not going to check up on you anyway and when you know it's one of those classes that's just "useless" (never is getting information completely useless, but come on, we've all had these classes where you'd just sit there doing nothing at all), I can certainly see why people would want to just ditch out instead. I myself go to classes like these all the time. Like I said, the only time I ditch out on school is when I feel I can miss the lessons and I've got something else to do that's really important at that moment (usually it's school related as well, like today's immense backlog on homework).
I have to admit though, I did skip school once when I didn't really have a good reason at all. I had this project for which I had permission to skip school (once a week we gather), however, once, the meeting was rescheduled to another day, but I just skipped school at the day it was supposed to be scheduled anyway... that was pretty lame, but whatever.
I've wanted to skip school many times in elementary, middle, and Freshman year in high school simply because I didn't want to put up with the constant tirade of assholes who tormented me (although I probably did deserve it).
Skipping school isn't of much importance. As long as you pass and move on to the next grade right? Hell, if you have a car, that makes things easier. Tell your parent's you're driving to school and take the car out but don't go to school. Go to Taco Bell instead! >_> Then come back to the house when they leave for work or something. High School ftw.
I'm in High School. I probably skip school more than I should. In fact, I skipped yesterday, and my parents were hounding me for being out too often. I skip when I really, really tired, or have a headache, or just don't want to deal with school that day. Or if I don't have all my work done, like yesterday. I feel your pain, Master. I'm in today, but I'm currently skipping a class to avoid a speech.
I just skipped my English class on Tuesday. The teacher has a bunch of confiscated lotion/perfume bottles on her desk and some morons decided to spray the "Sweet Pea Garden" variant around the room. Since it's an unwritten rule that nothing productive can ever happen in English 11 (no homework over break, even), I felt justified in going home early.
In general, I'm not a skipper. The homework piles up way too fast in AP Biology, and if I miss Latin on a day when a new concept is introduced, I just can't grasp it later on. I stay home from school a lot (migraines ftl) so I really don't think I should miss school more than I already do.
I skipped an entire day of school for the first time on thursday and friday of two weeks ago (April 17/18 if anyone cares). We had a vacation last week so very little was happening in any of my classes and I had a presentation for my economics class that I hadn't done.
Since I'm 18, I can write my own notes. I often do so to go to Subway, which is like half an hour round trip and the only non-artery clogging fast food in the area and no one cares. Hurray pudunk towns in Vermont!
I used to. I skipped entire days. I couldn't skip classes since my school has a huge gate with guards and security cameras. Seriously.
I ask my mom to drop me outside the gate saying I have to meet up with some friends. Then I fumble around with my bag until she's gone. After she took off, I just walk away. I meet my friends a few blocks away where we take a cab and spend our day at a gaming zone or a cafe. We take a cab back to school.
I actually stopped going to school on Thursdays for two straight months, but I stopped when a kid in my class got caught. His mom came to school to give him some books he had forgotten.
