Gabite fell to the ground in exhaustion. Ruesap ran over to its side to do the normal things - check its heartbeat, make sure it was still breathing okay, and the like. He didn't want to run up a huge bill at the nearest Pokemon Center (and besides, the one in Pallet Town wasn't that great anyway; he'd have to head over to Cerulean City), but he certainly didn't want to lose this battle.

"Gabite, can you hear me?" he asked in haste, as the trainer held out a Pokeball, unaware that Gabite was, in fact, stirring. Ruesap preemptively gave an order: "Get up, will you! He's coming back!"

Gabite hopped to his feet rather quickly, albeit stumblingly. He shook his head a few times. His line of sight was blurry but quickly regaining focus. A smack on the head from Ruesap lined up his vision again. Suddenly, the Sneasel seemed to materialize directly in front of him, holding its fist out in an attack. Gabite quickly leaped to the side, and Ruesap himself had to duck down to dodge a few pellets of ice.

Sneasel wasted no time in preparing for another attack. It again charged Gabite, with whom exhaustion was quickly taking its toll. This Sneasel just kept attacking...it didn't tire...Ruesap quickly pondered this. It's fast, it's strong, and it just doesn't quit...does it have no weaknesses? Surely enough, he watched as Gabite could no longer dodge the Sneasel. Its punch connected with the land shark's chest, and Gabite fell back down to the floor of the stadium.

Ruesap heard the wild cheers of the spectators, and a few hisses and shouts. They were cheering at his humiliation, at his expense. They were cheering because he was being defeated. Every time Gabite took a blow, the fans hooted and hollered. Ruesap couldn't let this happen anymore; he had to take a stand for his own sake.

"Gabite!"

He rushed over to the site of carnage, where it was no longer a battle - Gabite simply no longer stood a chance. Sneasel threw hit after hit at Ruesap's beloved, and this enraged him to no end. Sneasel charged up for a final blow, one that would end this easy fight and bring him and his master to another tournament title. Ruesap had another idea.

"This is rapidly turning into a beatdown, folks!" The announcer yelled into a megaphone that reverberated throughout the stadium. This fueled the fans' turbulence and energy even more, as the sounds of humiliation became louder and more intense. Ruesap, rushing through the arena, could see only that Sneasel, the one that was publicly embarrassing him - and in front of all of these people! Gabite had long since been knocked to the ground, and that Sneasel was simply standing there, triumphant.

Ruesap was only feet from this Sneasel now; he felt the rage consuming him. This Sneasel is the source of my humiliation...these people are laughing at me because of this thing! He threw his fist back and let his rage send it flying at Sneasel. However, he was surprised when his fist struck air. He felt a heavy blow at his side, and instantly lost his balance and fell to the floor as an arm eased his fall. He looked up to see the Judge kneeling over him.

"Ruesap, it's over, and you know it's against arena code to attack a Pokemon like this." But yet, Ruesap couldn't accept the defeat. Imagine the humiliation he'd be faced with at home, where he would be scolded to no end for losing like this! Imagine what would happen when Zero found out of this? He would laugh and mock Ruesap for several days on end, certainly.

"Your honor, sir...I don't think it's over..."

Ruesap looked back at the voice. It was his opponent, the excellent battler CrossDragon. He was confused at first...he had just been defeated, after all. It all came very clear when he looked back at his defeated Gabite, which was being enveloped by a white light...

Hmm interesting story so far ( and by that I am assuming it will continue). But now it's time for critisim from the best writer here( Oh yeah, I went there)
First thing I would like to say is that gabite + sneasel = gg gabite user. Now this is of course fictional but c'mon. Also, I think some of the characters could use some backround info. I know that in my story I really shrwed it but at least in the first update there was something for the readers to get an idea of.
Something else that could use some mention is physical characteristics. I know that I shouldn't be someone to tell you about this as I have yet to do so myself but I plan on doing it ... eventually. Sure we know what a gabite and sneasel look like but some faces could help when imagining this.
Also, kinda going along with the backround knowlege thing is that your character Ruesap seems to have an emotional bond with gabite. As much as that's all fine and dandy, some info on why that is helps. Maybe it's too early to critisize that as I know I really didn't explain that untill later on in my story but I guess that's why it isn't going to get a perfect 10/10 rating any time soon.
Ok, well now that critisizim is out of the way, time to look at the good things of the story. All else aside, it seems like it could make for an interesting story with happiness, saddness, heartbrake, the whole shibang. Zero reference is also nice :D. Although there are more deserving people to be the exellent battler. Ok even though I want to be him D:, I know there are better people like TPX, SNX, hell even Jth ( wait omg you bitch Jth, you broke the full caps name thingy, damn you >=/). Maybe it's just my opinon on how I dislike Cross but I'm just saying...
So with all this taken into consideration, your story gets an.... 8/10.

Keep up the good work.

Edit: Ok wtf Ruesap. You better continue this. I could understand if it was a bit longer but c'mon, this is just like nothing. Maybe a few minute's read. The writing section should be filled with long and short stories, not this short as pokemon battle crap.

It's Ruesap
Saving the day yet again
Protect us all
...from evil!!!

*guitar solo*

Our hero is in the finals of the Pallet Town invitational, the most prestigious tournament in southern Kanto! His opponent is the noble CrossDragon, a fan favorite and a strong-willed warrior! CrossDragon has sent out his loyal Sneasel, and Ruesap his companion Gabite. With a type advantage, CrossDragon's Sneasel has easily beaten Ruesap's Gabite into submission. However, when all hope was lost, a strange white light surrounded Gabite...

RUESAP THE HERO PART 2: Bittersweet Revenge!

"Gabite...you're..."

The crowd hushed. The judge looked over in awe. CrossDragon himself stopped in his tracks, and ordered his Sneasel to stand down. All watched as Gabite became cloaked in a pure white light. The form began to rustle violently and shift in size. It grew, and shrank. Grew, shrank - following some hypnotic pattern. All the spectators were entranced by this, and throughout the stadium, not a peep was heard. Even the announcer was at a loss for words. As the shapeless mass settled into a human form, activity started up again at a dazzling pace. The crowd was back to its shouting, and the announcer was making a few babbling noises.

"Wha..but...can you believe this, folks? When we all thought it was over...

Gabite has evolved!"

Ruesap analyzed this new situation. In front of him stood a massive beast. At 6 feet tall, it dwarfed his opponent's Sneasel, who was quietly quivering in trepidation. And yet, his old Gabite was looking completely revitalized...it had replenished its energy through this evolution.

"You picked quite an opportune time to evolve, Gabite."

Before him now stood an intimidating beast, a matured Gabite. His glare was more aggressive, his teeth gleaming more brightly than his Gabite's ever had. He was even sporting an impressive pair of wings, and Ruesap immediately wondered how these could be used to his advantage.

Hmm...Garchomp, the Land Shark Pokemon. I've heard quite a bit about it, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would one day be a master of one. The crowd's roars became more and more evident with each passing moment. They just wanted the battle to continue. Now convinced that this would be a blowout in Garchomp's favor, they cried for more bloodshed. Ruesap saw this as a moment for him to shine. He would look like the hero, down and out, and rising up to victory in the face of adversity. He was imagining the look he would see on Zero's face when he told him of these unspeakable odds.

"The crowd seems eager for another bout..."

The announcer's voice echoed throughout the stadium, signaling the beginning of the end for CrossDragon. Ruesap smirked.

"Cross, it's time to finish."

His opponent had been standing, speechless this entire time.

...Wha- Those are like, some unimaginable odds! I've calculated them: The odds that at that exact moment, in a moment of extreme crisis, that a low-level Gabite would evolve at such an opportune time are 1/352,264,627,165!

Ruesap will save us all
Duty is his call
Through difficulty he fights
Through all obstacles he fights!

*guitar solo*

Everyone is shocked by the evolution of Ruesap's Gabite into the powerful Garchomp! Now, the entire crowd eager for further melee, Ruesap prepares for a final showdown with CrossDragon...

SURPRISE UNRELATED SCENE

It saw the carnage that was occurring. It noticed the pathetic humans, crying out for violence; it saw the worms that call themselves trainers, ordering around Pokemon for their own personal glory. It reluctantly called itself a Pokemon, too; it just hoped that one day, it would not be under the control of these things.

From within its domain, its lair, it felt a trembling in its soul. Something was afoot...something was strange about this fighter, Ruesap - they called him. This was a strange feeling, for sure. Not a single other human had made this impact upon it. And it wondered why - what made this arrogant fool so much different from the rest? Clearly, he looked exactly the same as the other humans, covered with a stupid smile and ignorant eyes, held up by its feeble legs. And yet, he was controlling this Garchomp.

It nearly reeled back within itself. Garchomp was a formidable beast; yet, it was being used by Ruesap. Why? What bound Garchomp in servitude to Ruesap? It could be those little ball things the humans threw at them, but it would know better than that - no other human before had managed to enslave him inside of a child's toy. Why did Garchomp reveal its power in the face of Ruesap?

And better yet, why was it so startled by the sight?

RUESAP THE HERO PART 3: Sweet Success

Cross could only nod his head slightly - he was still in shock.

"Ruesap, you know how rare it is for a Gabite to evolve, right?" he began. "Not only does it have to be well-trained and powerful, but there has to be some sort of emotional attachment, and knowing you, there isn't one." CrossDragon jeered at these words, and the crowd began a hearty laughter. Ruesap smirked at his opponent. He was certainly talking big, for someone who had no more ground to stand on.

"Let's just finish this, Cross, and you can talk after we're done." Ruesap's opponent nodded.

Almost as if on cue, CrossDragon's Sneasel began sprinting toward Garchomp. "Garchomp, dodge it!" Ruesap yelled, alluding to a few episodes of the Ask Ketchum adventures he had seen at home. Garchomp did not need to think twice. As Sneasel neared, he unfurled his wings, and bent his massive legs at the knees. When the punch was inevitable, he sprung powerfully, and easily leaped out of the way. His momentum carried him nearly halfway across the arena.

The crowd gasped, awed by the sheer power and speed of the dragon. "Look at that, folks!" the announcer shouted into a microphone. "Garchomp's powerful leap has kept him easily out of danger!" Again, the crowd roared, preparing for an offensive from the beast. CrossDragon had an idle expression on his face, almost conceding defeat, but somehow wanting to continue, if only to get the last laugh.

Ruesap couldn't hold back a giant grin. This was his moment to shine. Not only would he have to soundly defeat CrossDragon, but he would have to be flashy in it, too. He would need to utilize Garchomp's power to its full potential to completely humiliate CrossDragon. Sneasel charged again.

"Garchomp, stop it!"

The fatal words echoed across the arena as the spectators were on the edges of their seats. Sneasel began to rush the thirty feet separating it and its fate. Ruesap's grin got wider, and CrossDragon stared on vacantly. Garchomp spread its wings wide, taking in a great deal of air...

Sneasel, nearing its attack, suddenly was halted by a massive wall of blue flames that had spewed from Garchomp's open mouth. The inferno completely surrounded it, cutting it off from oxygen and air. It could hear the incredible shouts emanating from the arena stands, slowly getting softer and more muffled...and suddenly everything went black...the sounds slipped away...

Silence suddenly covered the entire arena. The spectators raged on more than ever, but Ruesap could hear none of it. He could not believe what he had just seen. Was this really necessary? Sure, he had wanted to win, but was that not needlessly harsh? Was he happy about his success?

The judge walked calmly over to the Sneasel, lying charred on the ground. He placed his hand on the Sneasel's chest and received no response.

"Ruesap wins!"

Ruesap, oh Ruesap
Does what needs to be done
Whatever happens, the final result
Is all Ruesap's fault...

*piano solo in A minor*

In the finals of the Pallet Town invitational, Ruesap is victorious! Although he is not happy with his methods of victory, Ruesap is rewarded with the praise and respect of thousands of spectators, including one that he didn't expect to see...

WHERE AM I?

Sneasel opened its eyes. It did not feel the intense heat surrounding it, nor the roaring of the spectators. It felt a strange sense of nothingness, and strangely along. In fact, it was now in some lush garden of sorts. The sun was blazing brightly in the sky, and not a cloud was to be seen. This wasn't the arena...

Sneasel ambled toward a lone tree in the distance. It suddenly did not feel a sense of purpose, which seemed very strange. It was dead, wasn't it? Wasn't Death supposed to be the land where you didn't have to have a purpose to feel fulfilled? This wasn't Death...

It arrived at the tree much sooner than it had anticipated. Surely it hadn't covered all of this distance in such little time? The tree seemed endlessly tall, stretching far into the clouds. And what lied beyond these clouds? Where it was, there was nothing further, it believed. The tree spoke: Sneasel, it's not your time. You have your own purposes to fulfill in life.

"Your Pokemon have been fully healed! We hope to see you again, CrossDragon!"

RUESAP THE HERO PART 4: A Surprising Visit

Ruesap felt surprisingly humbled. His arrogance had suddenly given way to a newfound sympathy for CrossDragon and his Sneasel. The little ice Pokemon was still lying on the ground, unmoving. And yet, no one seemed to care. As the crowd roared and screamed, not one person took a second to tend to the Sneasel. Did these people care that little about the Pokemon? Determined not too concern himself with this issue too much, Ruesap reverted back to his usual hubris and decided to rub in his victory.

"Well, Cross, you certainly talked a lot for someone who couldn't back it up..."

CrossDragon simply shook his head. "There's something wrong, Ruesap. That Gabite shouldn't have evolved for you. You're the most arrogant person I've ever seen...the way you hit its head to get it to move, the sharp commands you give...it doesn't like you at all. It took out all of its anger on my Sneasel."

The icy words stabbed Ruesap's conscience. Was he really that inconsiderate? The way he had just been thinking...he did care about his Pokemon! He was determined to keep his cool anyway.

"CrossDragon, you fool. I assured you that I would defeat you one on one, and win this tournament. You played with a type advantage, and I still walked away with the victory. If my Pokemon didn't like me, why would it have obeyed me and crushed you so easily?"

"I can't answer. And that's what's wrong." CrossDragon disappeared into the stands of the arena, and Ruesap did not see him again for a long time.

In the next several minutes, Ruesap was confronted with quite a few adoring fanboys and admiring fangirls. They all wanted to shake paws or hands with the heroic Garchomp, who was brooding in a desolate area of the arena. So, Ruesap half-dragged the reluctant dragon to his supporters, who got their chance and fulfilled all of their dreams. This was the life, Ruesap thought. Why should I be worrying about all of this emotional garbage when I can just be accepting these accolades? And the accolades came in bunches; the judge walked over to Ruesap to endow him with his prize of fifty thousand pokos.

Several hours later, Ruesap, just ready to depart from the arena, received the news that CrossDragon's Sneasel had been fully-healed, and he felt a bit better. Garchomp had begun to warm up to him too. Life was good.

"Ruesap."

The voice calling to him was very curt. Ruesap looked back, startled.

"Kody?"

Standing before him was Kody, champion of the Pokemon League in the Indigo Plateau. He was one of the most powerful trainers alive...and yet, he had come to watch this tournament?

"Hello, Ruesap. I see that you know who I am, and I've just been introduced to you from watching your battle there in the finals." Ruesap gave him a what's-your-point? look. "And I have to say, you're a decent battler."

"Thank you, Ko-"

"But, something wasn't right about the way you won there. There's no way that Gabite could have evolved under those conditions. I know enough of the tournament battling scene to know that something like that could not happen. So, I'm very inclined to say that your victory was through a great deal of luck."

"And how do you know it was luck then?"

"I don't. There could be some destiny out there for you, forcing you to win this tournament. But whatever it is, I'm not going to buy it until I lose at your hands."

"And what does your word mean to me?"

Kody gave a slight laugh. "That answer lies beyond here. It won't take you long to find out why you need me - If you are who I think you are, that is. So, then, let's see if you really are a tournament champion."

Ruesap raised his eyebrows. What was he saying? His pseudo-speech resembled that of a boss in a role-playing game he would play back at home. Before he could ponder the issue further, however, Kody drew a Pokeball from his belt, on which five others remained. He tossed the ball to the ground with haste, and a massive white light emerged from it. The light materialized into a giant blue dragon. Although he had no idea what was going on, Ruesap wasted no time preparing for another battle.

"Garchomp, go!"

Ok where to start. Well I guess I'll cover things I said before. This still lacks descriptions. Ok you gave us a vague idea of where sneasel is right now. But still. We still could use a description on what Ruesap looks like, and CrossDragon ( I'm picturing fail for this :D ).
Err ok well now I can't really say any bad things about it. I mean you get the emotion ( Although if this was one of my stories I'm sure some would be quick to jump on something like " Omg u have an emotional bond wit dat garchomp, u r clearly gay" or some shit like that ).
K well umm yeah. It's your basic story with your basic plot twist from what I can deduce. So like this remains with it's solid 8/10

RUESAP RUESAP
FIGHT FIGHT
RUESAP RUESAP
FIGHT FIGHT

Oh, Ruesap
Look into your heart
The answer to it all's
been there from the start!

Oh, Garchomp. How determined you look.
Yet defeat is inevitable.
What compels you to fight?
Why do you persist?
It is bigger, stronger, faster.
It is not a battle you can win.
So why even fight from the start?
Surely such a strong monster as yourself would know when to quit.
Is it this Ruesap?
Is he doing this to you?
Do you fear pain and exile if you do not fight?
Ah, of course not. Why would I ask such a thing?
He will not dare disturb you again when he knows of your purpose.
Now then, my child, fight.

RUESAP THE HERO PART 5: The Real Fight

"You look ready, Ruesap. I'm surprised," Kody said. A small crowd had gathered, shocked by the sight of the massive dragon. Ruesap eyed up his opponent. Kody showed no signs of weakness at all - this he thought was typical of a champion. The dragon appeared very tame and well-trained. Ruesap looked over to his Garchomp, shivering and flexing its claws.

"Mommy! It's a Salamence!" yelled one juvenile spectator, confirming Ruesap's fears. He had heard of Salamence before, and the stories he had been told convinced him that it was just as powerful as Garchomp, if not more. And yet, Kody had the advantage with his years of training...

Apparently Ruesap had been pondering too much. "Ruesap, I'm giving you the first attack. Make your move already." Ruesap supposed that Kody had been kind enough to give him this chance in the first place, so he decided that he must attack with haste to get this over with quickly, and spare himself the embarrassment. "Garchomp, attack!" Ruesap drew an invisible sword from his belt, pointing his fingers at the Salamence standing only twenty feet away.

Garchomp refused to stir. It yawned once or twice, and went back to shivering and flexing its claws. Well, this is embarrassing, thought Ruesap. He put on a hearty grin and tried to convince Kody that it was a part of the plan.

"It's not your fault, Ruesap," Kody said. "This isn't the first time Salamence has intimidated an opponent in this way. Your Garchomp is severely under-trained at the moment, and that isn't your fault either. Perhaps I was wrong to challenge you so early. Well, Salamence, we'll be on our wa-"

"Wait!" Ruesap yelled, as Kody drew a Pokeball from his belt. "I'm not going to take this sort of defeat already." Ruesap inhaled a bit - "...it's embarrassing." Kody sighed, and a few of the spectators chuckled a bit. "All I'm saying is this, Kody: keep your Mence ready, because at any moment, Garchomp is going to find the strength to attack, and then you'll be sorry!"

Kody sighed again. Amateur. "Salamence...wait for it."

Ruesap walked over to Garchomp. C'mon, buddy, he thought. You evolved for me at the right time, and it's because of that that I'm still here right now! I'm sure you have it in you to make at least one charge...

Garchomp growled a bit, as Kody raised his eyebrows slightly. "Looks like your Garchomp might be finding a bit of its confidence. Maybe we'll get a battle here after all!" Ruesap put on his signature smirk. "I'm tired of waiting, now. Garchomp, attack!" Garchomp looked over at his trainer, and the newfound confidence Ruesap seemed to possess. Some sixth or seventh sense galvanized Garchomp into action, as adoring fans gasped.

Garchomp unfurled its wings in a flash and began a full sprint toward the Salamence. The larger dragon seemed a bit confused and shocked by the sudden assault, but was able to stir up the energy to fight back. As Garchomp's claws neared in, Salamence lifted its powerful wings and took flight. The sheer power of the wings cutting through the air created a gust of wind that shook the arena. Ruesap looked over to see quite a few of his fans clutching on to hats and losing a few papers to the small tempest. The child that had identified the Pokemon earlier was now clutching on to his mother's hand harshly.

Garchomp wasted no time preparing for a second attack, though. He took flight as well and reached Salamence with no effort. Kody's dragon suddenly changed course and began a nose-dive straight toward the floor of the arena. Garchomp was more sluggish in keeping pace, and temporarily landed in the stands to turn around. As he propelled back toward Salamence, he noticed that the dragon was ready. A powerful whip of Salamence's tail was headed straight for Garchomp, who ducked as the tail narrowly missed. Garchomp was now headed in a collision course toward the arena floor, and the sea of spectators. Seeing this, the fans began to panic and scatter in different directions. Garchomp struck the ground and shook the earth beneath it, as spectators were knocked to their feet by the impact. Salamence was right behind it - it grabbed Garchomp by the wing and flew into the ground next. The force of the landing cracked the ground beneath them, and Ruesap found himself landing on the floor. He looked over to his right to see the child stumbling and struggling to keep his balance...

"STOP!" he yelled, and Garchomp obeyed immediately. Kody seemed to whisper a few things to the air, and Salamence also halted. "Kody, this is too dangerous. These people are in the path. We can't have this here."

Kody nodded. "You're right, Ruesap. It was foolish of me to challenge you with all of these people around. I'm impressed with your Garchomp's ability to fly, although I'm quite confident that Salamence had the upper hand."

"When do you want to finish this, Kody?"

"Oh, we'll meet again soon; I guarantee it." Kody recalled his Pokemon, turned around and disappeared through the same exit CrossDragon had before. Unlike his tournament opponent, Ruesap would be seeing Kody again very soon.

"Well, Garchomp, let's head home. Mom'll be waiting for me, and I can introduce you to her and dad. Zero's going to be a little bit jealous, though. Now I think I'll be competing a bit better with his Swampert - with your help, that is. We'll use this money to head out to Cerulean City for a few nights, and maybe catch a train to the Indigo Plateau. I'm sure Kody will be looking for his rematch soon.

If you ever learn how to talk, please tell me how you mustered up the courage to fight his Salamence - it was really impressive. Although, with the way you looked at me on my orders, you'd think it was something I did...ah, never mind. According to my opponents, you hate me anyway. I suppose that, as long as you never attack ME, it'll all be good...

Ah, who am I kidding? I'm sure that if we get along pretty well, it'll benefit the both of us. Just look at Ash and Pikachu. They're best friends, and Pikachu fights type disadvantages and better opponents, and always seems to come out on top. Eh, the whole thing seems little farfetched...

What do I gain from mistreating you, Garchomp? You seem to respond to what I say whether I whip you or not. I'm not even sure to explain that. Once again, as soon as you grow human vocal cords, please tell me how you do it! As a little Gible, you seemed so naive and unaware...yet now, you react to me in such a strange way.

Is this even normal? You evolved when I needed you to the most...you glared at me as I told you to attack for my own sake. They can't just be coincidences, can they? Maybe you are a little special, Garchomp. If you, tell me! Give me a sign!"

Ruesap looked over to Garchomp, who was lazily nibbling on grass along the side of the road. Ruesap decided it was no use, and continued heading for the Pokemon Center.

"Your Garchomp is back to normal, Ruesap! I must say, it's quite a tough breed! We rarely treat Garchomps around here," Nurse Jane began. Ruesap, not trying to be rude, but not quite possessing the time, left suddenly, forcing Garchomp to retreat to his Pokeball. He stopped by a pay phone to call home and tell them he was on his way with the money he had won.

His mother was still ecstatic from his tournament victory - she had watched the whole thing. However, just because Ruesap ended the call, he heard his mother's voice chime in:

"Oh, Ruesap! Hurry home, please. There's someone here for you."
