A hastily written poem.
The clock counts down
And then, such a sound!
Joy abounds;
Look around!
The old is gone, the new is here.
Everyone cries, “Happy New year!â€
Drinks, shouts, merriment fill the air
Everyone celebrates without care
The new year is here! The new year is here!
Last year’s gone, never to reappear.
And everyone laughs and sings
Hopeful of what the new year brings
But after the festivity
You wake up once more to see
Everyone, everywhere, everything the same.
What changed?
And as you go on, your resolve fades
Through violence, sorrow, and vice the world wades.
The world continues as it was,
As it has always been,
As it always will be.
Tell me, what has been reborn?
I have no idea if it's any good, and frankly, I don't give a rat's ass at the moment.
