It being fake wouldn't have changed the fact that no one in their right mind would ever allow something like that, and all battles would have to be carried out over crappy DS Wifi. PBR doesn't even allow illegal move combinations to go online, and no sane person would create a server that allowed such abuse.
Yeah, I agree. Back in the GSC days one of the major rules was that movesets only achievable through the 1/13 loophole were banned, and no one could really argue against that. A similar rule would be implemented if it had actually worked, no doubt.
I must say though I was surprised at how elaborate PBR's filter was. They did a damn fine job on it.
ALL event moves in existance were legit, but not only would cross-event combos or egg moves set off the filter, your event poke had to be a clone of the original (barring the random, of course.) That included not being allowed to make it shiny.
Sure, many people hacked(myself included) but it was nice to know that you could only ever fight monsters that were within ALL legal confines of the game.
There was also an invisible tiered system so that after you murdered a dozen idiots with ingame teams or ubers you could fight the competent. None of that friend code bullshit, either. 3v3 style of play is also highly underrated and arguably introduces even more mindgames.

From everything I've heard about PBR, it's not very reliable for checking hacked Pokemon.
