There are a lot of comedic acts that have adopted song as the medium through which their humor is performed. While it's actually a very old idea ("Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah... Camp Granata", forget the guy's name, but I'll look it up and post a video or sound clip here if possible), it's only been recently that it's become more popular.
Sadly, just like Dane Cook, many of these singing comedians aren't funny. Yes, I don't like Dane Cook, he's not funny.
Back to singing comedians. Flight of the Conchords is probably the funniest group in this vein of comedy I've seen. The fact that they write the most random lyrics and song topics and then incorporate them into a show that has some semblance of a real plot is hilarious and very admirable.
FOR THOSE WHO MAY TL;DR, THE FOLLOWING IS A SUMMARY
DANE COOK: BAD
FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS: GOOD
