Well, once you get it going anyway.

I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the Trashcan, considering it's about a Pokémon spinoff, but since there are a few PBR threads here, I figured, why not.

Anyway, you heard me. Normally I'd wait for its stats to come out, but I was wading through the list of Pokémon-specific items, and Togetic's Luck Broche was the one that really caught my eye. (Keep in mind, even though this is Togetic's item, Togepi and Togekiss can also use it.) What that item gives you, essentially, is unlimited PP.

I don't know what the game designers were thinking, because Mystery Dungeon was already broken to all hell to begin with. But to give a Pokémon unlimited PP on the likes of Shock Wave (which is particularly interesting because of Hustle's accuracy drop), Ice Beam and Silver Wind? Tsk tsk. Now, the hard part is to find all these TMs, as well as two copies of Togetic's Wing and Togetic's Card (as long as there's no Wonder Mail generator out at least), but when you get all that, all that really threatens you is the restrictions on Zero Island.

So a warning to all who already started playing it and those who are interested in doing so when it comes out here: start collecting ASAP, because the annoying flying thing wasn't happy with just flinchax abuse in the main games.

How awesome. My team will probably be Togekiss(for the reason you stated), Electivire(because of the thunderbolt strip), and an EQ user.

And if you guys don't know, if Electivire holds the thunderbolt strip he will heal HP when he gets hit by a ground attack.

Yeah, pretty clever combo.

For EQ user, might I suggest Torterra? It can also pack the combined cheesiness of Bullet Seed and Rock Polish if you want to use those. Starters in MD1 always had excellent stats, and I don't see it changing this gen, so you can get a Turtwig right off the bat to simplify matters.

Oh, and the choice of Electivire is simply brilliant, since because Shock Wave is a ranged attack, you can just pummel Vire with Togekiss' Shock Wave to boost its speed like crazy, which you can afford on every floor thanks to bottomless PP. (Naturally, the trick only works with ranged attacks, since melee ones will just fail.)

In fact, if word of that combo gets out there, it's going to be wildly popular, I expect.

I never really got too into Mystery Dungeon, but there's one thing that pisses me off to oblivion.
Who in Arceus's name would think to neglect Marowak when it comes to species-exclusive items?

Anyways, sounds interesting. Shock Wave is long-range, no? *shudders* I'll probably start playing a little more; I need to finish it to make my game, anyways.

So I really want to get some Mystery Dungeon games - should I start Red/Blue team and then go to 2?

What do you guys think?

I'd say wait for MD2. MD1's a great game, but it has quite a few gaping flaws and annoyances MD2 does away with. Other than that, both games are likely very similar, and MD2 has all the new Pokémon (except Shaymin and Arceus) and moves (except Seed Flare and Judgement) on top of that.

This kid I babysit for has Blue team and I got to play it a little bit, seemed alright but really flawed. It may have been just because I had only played the Magnemite rescue mission without having played the beginning of the game or anything else.

When's MD2 coming out?

Is there any online options for it?

From what I understand, you can rescue other players by using either Wi-Fi or Wonder Mail, your choice. Don't think there's trading or anything of the sort, though.

As for the release date, we'll have to wait and see. There was a 10-month difference between Japan and NA for MD1, so 10 months after the Japanese release puts us in July of next year.

And if you've only done one mission, you haven't seen the irritants I was talking about. The Friend Area system, while logical, was inconvenient to say the least. I understand they've revamped the system for convenience purposes, but how it works you'll have to ask menofuntall for that. Recruiting Pokémon was somewhat of a hassle in MD1, because you had to escort it to the end of the dungeon in order to recruit it proper, and if it dies before then you lose it forever. On top of that, that usually means you'll only recruit one Poké per run of the dungeon. In MD2 I heard you can send it back to whatever replaces the Friend Area immediately, which might make multiple recruitments in one dungeon run possible (don't quote me on that though).

By the way, anyone know what the reward(s) is/are for completing Zero Island dungeons? Serebii doesn't have a thing on that.

EDIT: Oh crap, I just remembered, there are no full immunities in Mystery Dungeon, so EQ will still hurt Togekiss for half damage. (In case you're wondering, resists cut damage by a whole 10%.)

Is Roost in the sequel? If so infinite of that.

And that leaves two spots open, probably Aura Sphere and Air Slash.

Yeah, Roost would work.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider Aura Sphere and Air Slash, unless Aura Sphere turns out to be ranged. The way I see it, the best moveset would be Shock Wave + Silver Wind + Roost + Ice Beam (or Aura Sphere in its place if it's ranged).

Well, there are abilities that will prevent damage. For one, there's Storm Drain (O_o), since Squirtle's Bubble kept failing against those Shellos. I'll assume that means Lightning Rod will give the user Lightning immunity, but that's pure speculation.

That's not speculation anymore then. I used Electrike a few times in the original, and it was completely immune to the Electric attacks it drew. But yeah, only abilities can provide full immunities.

Slowflake (and guys), I need some help. I've never played the first two Mystery dungeons, but I plan on buying this one. How does Weavile, Blaziken and Lucario sound? It'll be really nice going back to the RSE generation with Blaziken.

That's a tough question, I could only answer that knowing the stats of the Pokémon and the effects of the new moves. But as far as I know, Blaziken's not a bad choice with Double Kick and Flamethrower, Weavile has Ice Beam and not much else, and Lucario has Bone Rush and Extremespeed. Though I don't know if Aura Sphere and Focus Blast are ranged, but if they are they'll be of tremendous help to these three.

Cool. I'll probably use Blaziken as my starter and Chikorita as my partner (as I'm assuming she can heal others)

Are pokemon with species specific items completely superior to pokemon without?

Not really, because most of them don't have that much of an interest, aside from Togetic's Luck Broche. Pichu has access to such an item as well, but not Pikachu and Raichu, and Pichu's movepool blows chunks compared to Togekiss', so...

...and no, no, no. Avoid Chikorita like the plague. Bulbasaur and Treecko are much better, thanks to Sleep Powder and Agility respectively. What I'm going to do, in fact, is use Bulbasaur as starter and Torchic as partner so that I have complete control over when Bulbasaur can use moves like Leech Seed and Sleep Powder, since those (as well as Bullet Seed) are invaluable when used correctly.

Besides, there's no way to heal one of your allies unless you throw an Oran or Sitrus berry at them.

Dec 9 '07

ah, I didn't know that about healing. If I can't get a healer, a utility Pokemon would be my next option. What stuff does Blaziken get? I'm assuming fire moves, maybe a fighting move, and maybe a burning move?

Actually, do you have a link? Serebii's database isn't that big yet

OR SHOULD I JUST USE GAMEFAQS?
