I've been using this:

Bronzong@Macho Brace
Relaxed, 164 HP/32 ATK/100 DEF/212 SPDEF (O Spd. IV)
Gyro Ball
Earthquake
Stealth Rock
Light Screen

Bronzong for a while, and granted, it tears shit up, but I've started to wonder- how much additional power is Gyro Ball gaining from Macho Brace here? His speed with and without it are only 31 points apart, and I get the feeling this 'Zong is really missing his Leftovers recovery.

So what I'm asking is, how much does the BP of Gyro Ball change when there's a 31 point difference? And more importantly, is there any particular threat I lose the ability to OHKO or two-shot by switching the hold items?

The power of gyroball is based on the difference between your and your opponent's speed. it's something along the lines of "(Your opponent's speed) x 25/your speed" so there's no way to tell without knowing how fast your opponent is.

Well if that's the true, and the denominator is indeed my speed, then wouldn't doubling it (to 62) cut the power in 1/2? Either that formula's wrong, or it would indeed be a horrible idea to change the item.

Formula:
25(enemy speed/your speed)

So say your speed is 10 and theirs is 60 for simplicitys sake
25(60/10)=150. Ouch. (Max power.)
But take off the macho brace
25(60/20)-75. Whoop de doo.

But lefties recovery is pretty good too. Try them both out.

It maxes out at 150 Base Power, and Bronzong is very slow already, so what threats are only KOed when Gyro Ball is in play?

Algebra!

If you want to figure out the minimum Speed a pokemon needs for Gyro Ball from 0 Speed IV, negative natured Bronzong, we can use Algebra, or a calculator:

25(enemyspeed/63)=150

enemyspeed/63 = 6

enemyspeed = 6*63= 378

So, without Macho Brace or Lagging Tail, Bronzong gets 150 base Gyro Balls on pokemon with 378 speed or above, which is most choice scarfers, and just above the max speed for base 120 pokemon (Sceptile, Dugtrio, Alakazam).

With Macho Brace/Lagging Tail:

25(enemyspeed/31)=150

enemyspeed/31=6

enemyspeed=6*31=186

Which is freakin slow. It makes a huge difference. Plus you can always have Rest for recovery, since you're bulky enough to take a few hits - Rest works extremely well with a Heal Bell/Aromatherapist on your team in this case.

I would only use Macho Brace if I was playing with Item Clause. Bronzong needs that recovery.

Also, Lagging Tail has no effect over Gyro Ball's power.

Lagging Tail just makes you go last. Even in Trick Room.

oh, I thought it was 1/2 speed too. I guess its just Macho Brace or any of the other EV training items. But it makes a big difference if you want to try and sweep.

I would just use the leftovers. Macho Brace may 1/2 speed, but at such a low speed anyway, you're probably going to be hitting with maxed or nearly maxed Gyro Balls anyway. The extra power might be usefull against other slow defensive pokemon, and especially slow offensive ones.
