Since I started this topic on IRC, I guess we should talk about it here too. I didn't know so many people played. Anyway, talk about anything like past experiences from YGO I suppose.

I'll start. When I played, I used to run a Strike-Ninja Chaos Deck before ban and I quit when ban list came out. I figured I couldn't play this for the rest of my life, so I sold my deck to someone for $500 dollars on that day. It was a good change of pace to RO, but that's a story for another time.

I used to have some good cards and bought some tins, but then I... dropped them on the way back from a friend. Some friends gave me some of their spare crap to start over, but it isn't much. My cards weren't unpacked since I moved in May.

One of my cards was worth $300, but I sold the entire deck.

What card was that? I use to play but quit because of lack of players in area and games getting to be the same thing over and over.

Used to play. But found Pokemon to be much more challenging to learn. YGO is just copy the best deck and start winning with it. Hardly worth the effort.

I sold 4 First Edition Charizards for $400 each. Went into my college account, which is gone now.

I've also got a few thousand dollars worth of MTG cards as well as a ridiculous Warrior YGO deck w/ Freed The Matchless General, two Goblin Attack Force, and plenty more.

I got into Yu-Gi-Oh for the money when I was 12. I bought two booster packs for $16 and sold them to some rich kids at church for over $30. Yeah, I was a little capitalist. biggrin.gif

I played it before. Never seemed to be much of a challenge so I stopped playing it and started to play Pokemon again.

Nothing big, but who here has played / heard of the game / card game Magi Nation?

Fantastic card game that took up a good chunk of elementary school.

Deep, varied it was awesome.

The produced quite a few sets of cards over the year, and are now currently creating a TV show to get back money.

They also made a game for the Gameboy Color that is, in my opinion, even better than pokemon. Strong battle system, story, music.

Look into it guys. The main website though is messed up for the show though....

Yu-Gi-Oh, huh? My few thoughts:

The humans look stupid. The beavers look cool. I had a few cards once. I lost them.

I've kind of gone into an off phase, but when I was playing YGO, I ran a few random decks of my own design:

-fire theme deck, centered around Ultimate Baseball Kid and Raging Flame Sprite.
-my dad's magician deck, centered around White Magician Pikeru, Ebon Magician Curran, and Wall of Revealing Light.
-a Gravity Bind deck that ran the evil Kinetic Soldier + DNA Surgery combo.

The card was Royal Decree. It was worth so much because it only came in one tournament pack and it was like secret rare.

This was before ban, the game is actually getting good so said someone last night on IRC. I knew a few people that still played it after ban and they liked it. It became more balanced. I can't keep up with changing decks since a new ban list comes out every three months or booster.

Before the ban list was implemented, the metagame was overcentralized by Chaos Emperor Dragon and Yata Garasu.

And the ban list comes out twice a year. September and March of each year.

I still kind of play YGO. I made a Light+Dark deck, that uses the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon (I will forever love Shounen Jump for giving that card out).

I also have Obelisk the Tormenter (once again, Shounen Jump giveaway).

I didn't know ban list came out twice a year because I quit. Besides if you knew what happened after ban, then why did you say the game was all about "copying the best deck and winning with it?"

This thread makes me nostalgic...I used to scrape my lunch money together just to get one card a week.

Because even now, each new Ban list brings a new metagame, with each new metagame; after the first two Shonen Jump Championships, people tend to copy the Top 4 decks, the first one being the one to beat during the current Advanced Format.

That's what I was referring to. The originality fails after the first two premiering Shonen Jumps of a new Format.
