I'm in your shoes, except for the part where I get my ass kicked, because I haven't fought anyone yet (lol), but I just got shoddy up and running. I'm not battling anyone until I learn whether or not stat decreases are Baton Passed along with stat boosts, as that's kind of important to my team.

Anyway, the competitive pokemon thing: apparently, walls have no place in the BT, but they're all over the metagame.

Don't feel badly. It happens. =/ But, the more and more you play, the easier it'll be for you to recognize and predict the way a certain pokemon will fight against you.

BP passes all positive and negative stat changes

and yes, i've found the importance of walls, too (though I tend to run tanks in the BT along with my sweepers), and in fact, I just read a thread on that very topic on smogon....

I want to just use what I like, because in my random encounters I ran into a few very similar teams. I swear I fought a garchomp EVERY damn battle; but whatever, I'm no shark h8er tongue.gif . Good luck, you're going to need it

PS, I found that despite the fact I've never battled competitively before a few hours ago, I found that my prediction skills were much better than they would've been if I hadn't joined up here (b^.^)b

I know I'll get better at predicting and team building as I go on *stays the course*

I've been learning a few things from my losses in battles too. It feels nice to know you're improving. How else would I know that Focus Sash is my best friend and worst enemy?

Same thing happened when I first started on shoddy. I used it when it was first implemented and it was super glitchy back then. I lost my first 8 or ten matches, but after about 30 matches I started getting some wins. Nowadays I win most of my matches.

This is exactly my story.

I got Shoddy, lost to everyone.

It just takes practice and quite a few matches.

At first I was playing with my first team, and in the end I modified it a bunch.

After each match I changed it around to fit my needs.

Then I started winning and I looked at my team, it was completely different.

All those matches helped me shape a team that worked for me.
