Well...I can say I'm a pretty much advent fan of Naruto, but I'm not a Narutard...
I'll just point out why some people like it, and some people don't.
1. If no one hasn't seen any other anime/manga, then you can't compare it to any other anime/manga.
2. The style. The style is often compared to other animes/mangas of different genres. In no way should "Deathnote" be compared to "Love Hina" unless that comparison is of art. The story/plot will always be different. Basically, a lot of people compare Naruto to different styles or even the same style. Take Naruto and and "shounin" (I'm sure I spelled that wrong, but hey, I'm not that good at Japanese). A lot of shounin animes/mangas are expected to have a lot of action while Naruto (from a guy that has read the latest chapter) doesn't quite fill in the gap that a lot of DBZ fans (like a friend of mine, that compares EVERY SINGLE ANIME TO DBZ) and Bleach, which btw has A LOT OF ACTION...too much for me though.
3. The art in Naruto isn't all that bad. Of course it is dull and not very revolutionary, but that is because Kishimoto grew up with influences from Dragonball, and we all know what that looks like...

'
4. Naruto has a very, very dark plot and like I said before, shounin's are all about action, while Naruto NEEDS those explanations for things later down the line (I know because...I...read...the...new...releases...). I must admit though, the explanations on the anime are drawn out, so drawn out that it takes the whole episode sometimes. If you can't get into it now, don't expect to get into it later as Naruto grows up and the plot gets even darker. It's funny also because the explanations on the manga doesn't even take more than one page to explain.
5. The Characters. No one likes a loud, obnoxious brat as the main character. You could counter with "there are plenty of characters like Naruto" but that's not true. Kishimoto does go overboard with how obnoxious he is, and then the DUBS make that even worse. That's the reason I prefer the manga over the animes, but the surrounding cast compliment Naruto very well. Each of them has a reason they are in and eventually each have a side story or a milestone they'll accomplish. To be truthful, further down the story becomes about the generations of kids that have come from Konoha and then it goes back to Naruto's development.
6. Speaking of Development, that is also a reason that people don't like Naruto. Naruto's development is very slow, where most cases, the development is seen right away or exponential (look at Bleach...Ichigo could destroy vice-captains

' wtf?) Naruto, on the other hand, is slow because of his surrounding cast. I've read pretty much until I have to wait every friday for the new chapters to be released and so I can say that Kishimoto carefully details everyone's story and he leaves no one out...except for Shino...he's a mystery, but there's also another reason for Naruto's development. He can't develop as fast because of what's holding him back. He can't control his Chakra right because of that and so everyone has the advantage over him...it's natural that he'll develop slower.
lol...WoT...
but those are the main reason no one likes Naruto. I read a lot of shounin mangas and Naruto is probably the most eccentric of all of them that I've read so far...but I've only finished a few of them though.
