So last night my band played at a place in New York City called Don Hill's. It's pretty well known, but not a really big deal. My band isn't supposed to go on til 9ish, but I get there when the doors open (5:30lol) because it's good to be there early because most musicians show up late and I'm curious to see why the venue booked so many bands. Normally they book 3-4 bands to play, but last night they booked 6.
My band and another band named The Spines kinda put this show together as headlining bands - they just signed a distribution deal with a record label the other day. This label also wanted to hear our demo, so we passed it onto them through The Spines. Apparently they liked our sound but didn't have any good reference for our music.
Anyways, when I get there, there's the opening band doing their sound test. Normally at Don Hill's there are young middle school/high school bands that are awful for the first act or two. This wasn't the case. These kids were 14, and were playing well written music. There was a guy in a suit at the bar at the place, turns out he was the lead singer's guardian/bodyguard/whathaveyou. The kid's name is Adrian Simon, son of the famous singer Paul Simon. Turns out they signed onto the venue because they heard my band was playing and wanted to see how many people they could draw from other crowds. Anyways, I got talkin to them after the show, exchanged contact info, and we'll probably be booking shows with them in the future. Adrian and co. had places to be, he was heading to SNL to chill with Kayne West and some other people.
What a night. Might get signed to a record label and may have some touring opportunities in the future with Paul Simon's son.
