As you probably could guess, I'm a huge fan of double battles, and I thought, since we have a tournament board now, why not try to design a doubles tournament? After all, someone might just find a newfound appreciation for the metagame, eh?

Thing is, I've never done a tournament before, so I'm not entirely sure how to set it up. Which is why I'm asking for help. What I do know for certain, or at least adamantly plan on doing, is this:

1. The rules will be the following:

-Level 100 6v6 double battle
-No illegal hacks
-Uber Clause
-Sleep Clause
-Evasion Clause
-OHKO Clause

I'm not entirely sure if I will add in Species Clause, if just so people don't look at this and whine that there will be teams full of exploding Lickilickies and Gengars, but I'm not sure if it'll even be necessary.

2. The tournament will be held on Wi-Fi

Yeah, this is a no-brainer, but it goes along with the next point;

3. The tournament will be held roughly a month or so after its being announced and sign-ups

Since most people probably don't have doubles-oriented teams and would have to come up with new teams and strategies, I thought it only fair to allow people who sign up a chance to design and create a doubles team, since the luxury of being able to instantly create a team with Shoddy is non-existent. If possible, I would love to enlist the help of AR users to help people create their teams, if I can get the support.

4. Players cannot make warstories of tournament battles until after the tournament has concluded

The rationale behind this is, if you experience an epic battle and lose, and decide to post a warstory about it, then the victor's team is thrown out unto the open, and he might need to make a new one. If you won, then it's to prevent you from absentmindedly exposing your team to the world, although I think most players would avoid this already.

To tell you the truth, I'm not entirely sure on this rule, but...

But besides that, I've still got some complications I need to work out, which are:

1. How many participants should there be?

12? 24? 64? 100? I dunno.

2. What about people who drop out/become unavailable between sign-ups and the actual tournament?

I honestly don't know how to handle this. Suggestions?

3. How should I arrange/schedule the battles to prevent massive backlog and minimize the amount of unable participants?

Should I hold it, like, every day throughout a certain week, only on a certain day, or should we arrange it through PM? I know the first Libelldra tournament got severely backlogged due to incomplete matches; how can I avoid this? How should I handle disqualifications?

4. Should I offer a reward? If so, what kind?

Should I make the tournament just for the sake of glory, or should I offer some kind of reward? If so, what can I make? I don't have an AR, nor some fabulously breeded pokemon or anything. Should I get a hacker to help me with this as well?

5. How can I get people to join?

Most of this board only does the standard metagame; how can I entice players to actually participate, and possibly override the hate some people feel towards doubles?

6. What other potential problems are there that I've missed?

I know I've missed something; can anybody find any flaws that I might be able to fix?

So, it's in the preliminary stages, but I want this to work, I really do. Any suggestions or anything? And are there any hackers who would be willing to help my cause?

I thought I'd get someone to at least help me with the rules.

Maybe I should just host this elsewhere when I get it worked out.

I'm planning on making a doubles team...eventually. first, I have to EV train my Bronzong, then hatch and EV train Forretress and Lucario.

It's a bad idea to host a tourny on wifi. Because the playing field won't completely even due to IVs/breeding/time/etc.

That's why I'm trying to enlist the help of hackers to make pokemon for people. Did you read the entire topic before posting?

Hackers making pokemon for everyone in a tourny is a huge job, especially when they want to experiment and change teams during the tourny.

I'm quite aware of that, which is why I'm not even gonna try to begin this tournament until I get plenty of available hackers (I dunno...at least 15, I'm guessing) and giving a few weeks between sign-ups and the tournament for people to experiment with teams and possibly train their own teams without AR.

If it is really that big of a problem, I can limit the amount of participants to around, I'm guessing, twelve, and perhaps require them to use the same team all throughout the tourny, although I really would not want to do that.

I got like about 7 new EV trained Pokemon yeterday (thanks to Diamond) so I have a total of about 17 EV trained Pokemon. I'm sure I can make a doubles team with them. So once I finish making a doubles team, I will definently join this.

Until you get at least 5 more committed to this tournament, I won't be committing at all. I'm getting quite a bit of requests in my topic as it is. And considering I sleep about 15 hours of a day, having only about 9 hours to eat, and have a life in addition to making Pokemon; it'll be a bit much with this tournament. =/

I love the doubles metagame, I'm totally down for this when it happens. Just gotta find time to work it all in.

Hopefully I can basically use what I've got already, I think I won 70 Battles in the BT when I tried out my doubles quad.

Thanks, Onga, but everywhere it seems like this idea would fail...I guess I'll just hold it off until we get more members, or if people start giving two craps about doubles metagame, or when Shoddy gets a double-battle feature. I'm guessing the last two will never happen in my lifetime.

Shoddy getting a double battle mode is an inevitable thing.
