For my laptop, that is. The only other source I have to communicate online with is the PSP I'm using to type this message.

I lost everything. My family pictures, my personal projects, my mIRC, my backups (some of which I am scrambling to find original copies of), my RPG Maker, my contacts, and just about anything convenient that I once took for granted.

I doubt I will have better Internet access for a while, and rarely be seen on IRC.

This is a temporary departure.

Liar you can't write that much with a PSP and format so well and there is not enough memory to display TLF {unless you have homebrew if so do my bad}

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Who am I going to discuss my RPG Maker game with now, Arec? >_> Though, you weren't THAT far into the game, were you?

Please come back soon, IRC will not be the same without you. Maybe Iggy will take pity on you and give you a free Uber weapon when you come back. >_>

hatdude: Disabled images. I had to rewrite the post a few times for the PSP to accept it. I have no reason to lie.

menofuntall: I had finally tweaked levels the way I wanted them, completed all intro maps, and had about 2:00 of the scene done. I also had that large mountain map.

I presume I was more appreciated than I thought. Unless those are generic sympathetic posts showing that you read my topic.

Aw, that's awful. No chance of recovery? Don't worry, your stats are safe at least, and you can thank Meno for giving me the idea of giving you an ?ber item. Just for you.

No chance of recovery. The laptop doesn't even detect that the hard drive even exists.

I believe the part that hit hard were the family photos. I uploaded all of my 15th birthday images from a digital camera to my laptop before clearing them. A good friend I hadn't seen in years attended, and now the memory is gone. I'll have to send them an e-mail from another source to show my concern without being limited to the PSP's text entry limit, which I'm getting very close to right about now.

Yeah, this is it.

Well, I actually meant the contents of the hard drive...Surely there is some way to save it?

Can't the geek squad do anything about it?

We royally messed up our computer and they managed to save it.

Well, it looks like I'm not completely set up for failure just yet.

I set up my ancient desktop computer running Windows 2000 about a half hour ago. I am able to use IRC for the moment.

I powered on my computer about 1 hour ago, and it appears to have successfully loaded the desktop (I could see the files and everything), but the processes themselves didn't last long enough before eventually crashing. I'm now sure that my hard drive's contents aren't lost, but aren't within access for the moment. Good signs.

I created this topic while under a cycle of depression. I guess my emotions got the better of me, and I made assumptions that my laptop was lost forever.

Anyway, this is what happened, regarding my laptop's hard drive:

CODE
[21:29] <Iggy_Koopa> What happened?
[21:29] <Iggy_Koopa> tell me all about it
[21:30] <L-beast> Well, my room is very hot most of the time
[21:30] <L-beast> I have a fan running most of the day, but the past few days have been quite cold
[21:30] <L-beast> So I turned it off for the day and went to school with the laptop still running
[21:31] <L-beast> ...the weather was almost 15 degrees higher.
[21:31] <L-beast> So my room was essentially a giant oven, and my computer's enclosed location didn't add to it.
[21:31] <L-beast> The hard drive, I'd assume, shut down from extreme temperature
[21:32] <L-beast> I returned home today to find it on a diagnostic screen saying the hard drive was not found
[21:32] <L-beast> I powered it off for about an hour
[21:32] <L-beast> I turned it back on, and it didn't detect the hard drive
[21:32] <L-beast> So I had assumed I lost everything
[21:32] <L-beast> And made that topic.
[21:33] <L-beast> However, the hard drive is cooled down to an extent (the laptop itself is actually sitting in front of the fan as I type this), so that's why it appears to work partially
[21:33] <L-beast> I'm not sure whether I'll need a new hard drive just yet
[21:34] <L-beast> But I know for sure that I shouldn't exhaust my laptop trying to recover the hard drive
[21:34] <L-beast> So I'll probably try tomorrow once I'm sure it has had enough time to recover
[21:34] <L-beast> And if it doesn't, I'll get a boot disk and boot into DOS and copy over everything through the DOS instead of the OS

I'll try using my laptop tomorrow when it has had sufficient time to recover from overheating.
