Why do we need to recruit "smart people" to TLF? Isn't it meant for everyone to get a say? So that new players can get moveset ideas and ask for RMT's?

Seems sort of elitist if you ask me.

I understand that we don't want it to be a noobfest like GFAQ's, but still, seems kind of idiotic.

You're referring to that other topic, right? I felt that topic sounded a bit ?litist myself...

As for this recruiting thing, as far as I know, you can invite whomever you want to invite here.

I actually think that we're fine with the members we have. Inviting others would be nice...I'm also afraid of TLF turning into a noobfest though.

Elitist > filled with noobs

If you want the latter then just stay on gamefaqs

Spanky, you act like there is no inbetween. Besides, being elitists makes us just like Smogon.

A ) Sir Spanky is FROM Smogon... dot dot dot...

B ) He is actually right, but all out elitist is really bad too.

C ) I here all of this crap about how "this site was designed for everyone to contribute and to be communist and stuffs" and its bull because thats NOT what this site was made to be... Its what it turned into in the first few days and it became accepted by most but I'm damn near positive that the reason you are here is not because you get to post analyses and the likes, its because the community is just a generally nice and intellegent place to be and to have discussions. If the mod staff started enforcing stricter rules, I can almost guarantee you nobody would leave...

D ) Not wanting this place to be flooded with n00bs is a perfectly reasonable, as the REAL point behind this site is for easy analysis viewing and serious competitive battle discussion, n00bs cannot contribute to either effectively.

E ) Ray Gun, you were one of the biggest n00b flamers on Gamefaqs I knew, so like... where is this coming from?

Ummm...I'd like to point out we have mods. Who're more competent than GFaqs mods, pretty much by default because they exist. A site like this is necessarily elitist, sorry. We, the privileged and knowledgeable few dispense our wisdom to others...otherwise we wouldn't have made this site. The desire to help another is at least a little bit patronizing by default. It's the truth of things. If you like, we won't be as clear about that as Smogon is, but are we supposed to laud stuff like physical Cherrim? Whatever we answer to that, it won't be much different than "lurk more." Which, by the way, is actually good advice. You can learn a lot by just shutting up and "listening."

In short, we're an aristocracy! Yay! I always wanted to be a noble...do I get a knighthood? Do I? Please? tongue.gif

Well, you've basically gotten the gist of it, but the noticeable difference is that those of us that run this site are not setting out to be elitist. That's why we have our "everyone can contribute" policy, because there's always those people outside of the "privileged and knowledgeable few" that can do a decent job of contributing. However, there must be some standards to prevent the site from going down the drain. We do have a small amount of quality control in removing those analyses deemed "not good enough", and those that are on the borderline stay because they can be fixed. When we've completed all of the analyses, we will continue striving for perfection, as a group effort (separating ourselves from Smogon's system).

In short, we've not striving to be a true aristocracy, but a....republic of some sort, where everyone has their say, but there are those of us who keep quality high with high standards.

Saying that Spanky is "from" Smogon is incorrect. It would be correct to say he is "from" GameFAQs, as that is where he discovered competitive battling. However, his current forum "home" could be correctly described as the AAMS forums, as that is where he chills the most. However, he does in fact go to Smogon and post there, but so do many people. He also goes to UUSF, so is he "from" UUSF in your opinion?

Who cares? Some one stalk ME! I'm special. In any case, we obviously need members. Then maybe one of them will stalk me. IMO, the way to get more is just to quietly post analysis from here. Hell, I post it with Smogon links. You can never have too much analysis!

Maybe we can have a qualification test to join or anything. Simple stuff about competitive battling, or just mod stupid people's posts.

The test idea was already killed for being too elitist, and we DO mod stupid posts.
