Being the bibliophile that I am, I just wanted to know what books you guys have read that you loved and the ones that you despised and why. I hope to find out about some good reads here.

Well, for books I liked...so far, anything by Vonnegut that's not named Jailbird. I also really enjoyed The Catcher in the Rye, Catch-22, Watership Down, and 1984. There are more, but I'm afraid I might go off on a rant.

But if there's one book I really hated, it is the Scarlet Letter. I had to read it for school and...ugh. SO FRIGGIN' BORING! I mean, it had some good lessons and all, but nothing I didn't know already. And were there plot twist? 'Cause Hawthorne hinted at all the "spoilers" so heavily that they seemed blatantly obvious. I could go on, but I don't feel like it right now.

I'm more of a Romance/Fantasy reader myself. That being said, one of my favorite books is The Smoke Thief by Shana Abe. Shogun by James Clavell was awesome as well. Chrinstine Feehan is an excellent writer in the paranormal romance section, Mind Game being my favorite of the Game series.

As for school literature, I enjoyed Jealous-Hearted Me by Nancy Huddleston Packer and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. There were a handful of books that didn't quite enthrall me, but I forgot their names.

My all-time favorite book is Lolita, by Nabokov, closely followed by The Count of Monte Cristo. I'm also a fan of Wicked (Maguire), The Princess Bride (Goldman), and pretty much everything by Dumas and Palahniuk. I've read a lot of authors over the years, but those are the ones that stood out to me most. Also...

Favorite school texts: The Great Gatsby, White Noise, Nine Stories
Least favorite school texts: Pride & Prejudice, A Room of One's Own

Favorite book series: Everworld
Favorite children's books: Animorphs, Diadem, Harry Potter
Favorite fanfiction: Weepinbell's Pokemon Fanfiction (no longer online)
Favorite literary character: Senna (Everworld)

I also loved "The Count of Monte Cristo", as well as "A Journey to the Centre of the Earth" and "The Invisible Man". I loved reading classic books like that - I had a whole collection of them. I was also into "Animorphs" and "Hardy Boys" when I was much younger. Nowadays though, the only books I read are the "Harry Potter" series. Well, I suppose you can consider manga a very large book. I'm also currently in the very long process of reading the "Dragon Ball" and "Sailormoon" mangas.

I read The Girls recently and it was pretty good. The Testament of Gideon Mack, Legend and The Lion of Macedon are good as well.
Some books thare are more aimed at kids, but still kick ass include the Artemis Fowl books, the Edge Chronicles, the Bartimaeus Tilogy, His Dark Materials and the Wind on Fire trilogy. I list more when I remember them.

For all fantasy/scifi fans, read IN LEGEND BORN by Laura Resnick. And the Sequel, IN FIRE FORGED, which is divided into THE WHITE DRAGON OF KILORAN and THE DESTROYER GODDESS. THIS IS NOT AN OPTION. Sorry for all the caps, but these books are awesome, and you will not regret it.

Only one exception though, The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Kudos to everyone who slogged through The Count of Monte Cristo. I finished it last fall, and honestly it is probably my favorite novel, period, but 1500 pages is a lot to handle. After he brings down his first victim, and all he says is, "One." I got chills.

I started reading the novel "Sophie's World," two days ago, and I'm already 100 pages in. Anyone that is a fan of philosophy/fantasy should read it, it's excellent, informative, and highly addictive.
