Long story short:

I'll finish all my requirements to transfer out of community college and back into a real university again this Fall, so I'll be going back to school Fall '08. Also, thanks to this new job, I'll be able to afford my own tuition this time around, so I'm not totally screwed if my parents pull away their support again. I'm getting over the whole whole burglary/vandalism/harassment/lawsuits deal finally. Also, by some miracle, my grades are decent enough for admission to UCI. Basically, my life is going back in the right direction.

But on the other hand... My girlfriend is leaving next Monday to finish her college career in Taiwan. She won't be back until next summer, and then she'll most likely return there each fall for schoool. And the real kicker? We're actually going to stay together. Believe me, I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't planning to marry the girl, which brings me to my next point...

I feel extremely refreshed now, knowing that my life is shaping up. I'm going to take this opportunity to give my life a big kickstart, make it something worthwhile, and something worth coming back to when she's done with school. This is where you guys come in. Rate my following goals for the upcoming year, and add your own suggestions!

*get down to 200 lbs or less
*run a 7-minute mile again
*save $10000 minimum by next June
*write the novel I've had outlined since last year
*finish season 1 of my pokemon fanfic
*go on mission trip to volunteer at orphanage in Mexico
*go on mission trip to some other country, whatever my local church has planned this year
*beat three 11s in the same run (In The Groove 2; http://itgfreak.com)
*at least one big roadtrip with my friends
*hit Vegas after my birthday in November (I'm 21 baby!)
*learn to cook perfect steak
*learn to make several pasta sauces
*learn to cook at least 20 quality dinners
*get back the chiseled biceps that I once had
*figure out WTF to do with my hair
*take practice LSAT at least once a week

Alright guys, INSPIRE ME! TELL ME HOW TO LIVE MY LIFE!

My advice to be was aside from getting your degree and such, don't rush everything or you WILL burn out.

And if your looking to lose weight, of course a good diet would be good, cut out sodas and stuff, idk.

But yeah, handle the major stuff first, take it slow, try not to burn out.

Yeah, I'm like 95% soda free now. MY diet is like 50% protein, 40% fat, 10% carbs... aka the quick and unhealthy road to skinniness.

And as far as burning out... I have a huge chunk of spare time and energy, and if I don't fill it with something, it's going to spent wallowing in misery and loneliness, so...

[quote]*get down to 200 lbs or less[/quote]
Good goal, I'm thinking of losing a little weight too, thanks to Jth and Ruesap >_>

[quote]*run a 7-minute mile again[/quote]
Err, whats your current mile? Mine is between 7 and 8, and I'm younger than you (Don't know if that means i should be faster or slower... >_>) so I guess I'm should try that too...

[quote]*save $10000 minimum by next June[/quote]
Psh, only $10000? Lol jk, but that doesn't sound too hard... (Then again, considering your current bankrupt situation, I could be COMPLETELY wrong, so w/e)

[quote]*write the novel I've had outlined since last year[/quote]
That won't happen so keep dreaming. </reverse psychology>

[quote]*finish season 1 of my pokemon fanfic[/quote]
o_O Thats a goal? Moar liek a hobee so lurk moar.

[quote]*go on mission trip to volunteer at orphanage in Mexico[/quote]
>_> Random/10...

[quote]*go on mission trip to some other country, whatever my local church has planned this year[/quote]
K so your gonna go on TWO mission trips? I would LOL if your church is going on a mission trip to Mexico too, bahaha...

[quote]*beat three 11s in the same run (In The Groove 2; http://itgfreak.com)[/quote]
*is confused*

[quote]*at least one big roadtrip with my friends[/quote]
GOOD goal, have fun with that.

[quote]*hit Vegas after my birthday in November (I'm 21 baby!)[quote]
Ohhh snapz, habbee bewdai! Also, fake IDs are your friend >_>

[quote]*learn to cook perfect steak, eggs, and pasta (among other things)[/quote]
K, random foods much? A: You don't cook pasta, you boil it so like, a 9 year old could do it. Methinks you mean poifikt sawze? As for eggs, how could something that seems so simple be so hard? I JUST got it downpacked like a month ago and I started making eggs on a fairly regular basis 2-3 years ago. I have never made a steak though so I wouldn't no...

[quote]*get back the chiseled biceps that I once had[/quote]
z0mg i want duh chizald abz 2!

[quote]*figure out WTF to do with my hair [/quote]
Going by that picture of you... Yeah, that hair is something else... lol, the way i see it, you have a few options:

Cut it a bit and go the spikes style. Thats what always worked for me and I have similar hair as you (only its less asian so...)
Shave it off, a fade. On you, I don't know how it would turn out but its worth a shot so DO IT BOOH YAH!
Go the sophisticated route- put gel in it and comb it back, *insert celebrity that does that here* style.

[quote]Yeah, I'm like 95% soda free now. MY diet is like 50% protein, 40% fat, 10% carbs... aka the quick and unhealthy road to skinniness.[/quote]
Atkins ftl... Seriously, I was thinking about eating a pound of bacon three meals a day seven days a week, then suing atkins for like $1000000... Anyway, have fun clogging your arteries while you lose weight k? lol.

EDIT: Wtf, why didn't my quote tags work...?

The foods are random, I know, but those are near the top of my list right now. and yeah, I did mean pasta sauce, btw.

I'd say $10000 is pretty ambitious, considering I have expenses like car, gas, insurance, tuition, and food. Also, I'm a full-time student, which really kills my energy level.

My local church does several trips to Mexico every year (though I have no idea when) and they go to one new country every year too. I've always wanted to go, but I never had the independence before. It's not so much about the church experience for me, but more about just helping people who need more than I do.

I typically get my hair at spike-length and spike it as long as possible, then I just let it grow out and comb it back until it gets unmanagably long. Then I chop it off and spike it again.

I haven't timed myself on a mile since junior year of high school, and I was around 8:30 back then. I really fell out of shape during my junior year, because of AP tests, SAT prep, and family problems.

Why would I need a fake ID after turning 21?

I think that's a great idea! You should do it. Also, Martial Arts and stuff are fun to get into. Try to become a black belt in the discipline you choose. happy.gif

For what it's worth, I do did achieve black belt in kempo several years ago, and I was an assistant instructor for several years as well. I still have most of the knowledge and theory, although my body has fallen out of shape since then. And yes, I know that kempo has gotten quite a bad reputation for the lack of established tradition and for the hordes of McDojos that choose it as their "art" to make money, but I did learn from very skilled and knowledgeable people. Honestly, I would love to get back into it again, but the sensei I learned from was probably the last good man in an otherwise horribly corrupt money-making scheme. If he branched off on his own, I'd definitely go back, but his hands are tied by the institution, so he has to indulge in all their bullcrap. Chances are I'll never get back into martial arts, but I can say with confidence that I could handle myself if I ever got in a physical conflict.

Wrong Wrong Wrong Wrong.
I'd like to think this is more than just a poke-forums place, we are a pokemon-community, key word, community.
We all know eachother (especially if you go on IRC) and we're all pretty good friends, so this IS a good place to talk about things like that.

*learn to cook perfect steak, eggs, and pasta (among other things)

Girls like this part. Try adding cleaning and laundry to the list too. Men that can do this are usually a step ahead of the game when it comes to marriage. Working together to keep a future household pleasant is definitely more enjoyable than setting all the tasks to one partner or the other.

Moreover, investing time into becoming a more compassionate listener is always a positive thing. I don't want to make this into a Stephen Covey lesson from the 7 Habits, but this is truly groundbreaking in terms of relationships. This "trait" will provide you with more insight to people's perspectives, especially when conversing with women - I can surely say we have many interpretations for what is said to us.

Good luck with your other goals too. :3

I can already manage laundry and cleaning just fine, thank you. When I had my apartment and we spent time together there, it was pretty established that I did most of the "heavy" cleaning (vacuuming, sweeping, laundry, scrubbing pots/pans, etc) and that I took care of anything that she wasn't in the mood to do. Then she'd do more of the light cleaning (dusting, most dishes, picking up stuff) and take care of anything that I wasn't in the mood to do. It's not that anything HAD to be done a certain way; it's just that we grew up doing different chores with our parents, so it just comes naturally. We're both the easygoing, understanding, flexible type for the most part, so there isn't any stress over either of us not doing our share of the work. I'm more than happy to cater to her when she's tired, and vice versa. I'm definitely much more of a cook than she is, too. I'm not a huge fan of my own cooking for the most part, but I know I'm far from bad at least. Basically, I'm totally comfortable doing housework, keeping a neat house, and that sort of thing.

I like to think I'm pretty good at listening, although to come across as boastful would be self-defeating. I think the best thing I can say is that for the past several years, all my female friends have treated me as the stereotypical "The Gay Best Friend," because I'm the androgynous, borderline-metrosexual guy that can be sensitive and emotional while still offering a masculine perspective. You know.. The guy that a girl "loves" but could never date just because he's... that guy.

Thanks for the insights. I'd love to hear anything else you have to input, as you're the only significant dose of estrogen on this board. Any recipe suggestions would be nice too...
