1:What is the difference between Diamond and Pearl?

Firstly heres are what each version gets.

Sheildon
Bastiodon
Glameow
Purugly
Palkia

Thats it though Diamond has one upper hand, there is a a Poketch feature called colour/color changer to get it you need Kecleon which is only in Diamond.

2:What is Pal Park?

Pal Park is the place were you get your GBA Pokemon from Leaf Green,Fire Red,Emerald,Ruby and Saphire.Though it is a bit different, firstly you can only upload 6 from each cartridge every 24 hour.Oe you do you enter a special park where you recapture them in Park balls which have 100% capture rate.Gladly when you recapture them EVERYTHING stays the same even the held item.To unlock the Park you must gets the Sinnoh Pokedex AND beat the Elite 4, you also need a surfing Pokemon.Lastly you MUST recapture all the Pokemon before you upload the next 6, if you recapture them in a certain time limit you will get a rare berry.

3:Shinies

Here are some points:

Shinies are determined by the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. When you encounter a pokemon it has a a random number 65536. If any of the numbers are 1-8 it will be a shiny. People say 1/8192 to simplfy it (65536/8).

Shiny parents=/=shiny kids

Shiny ditto=/=shiny kids

When resetting for a shiny legendary, you can black out in the battle. The next time you battle him it will still have a 1/8192 chance of getting a shiny. In other words, even if you black out, the next time you meet, the encounter is set as a "wild" encounter not a preset one. Conversely, if you black out on a shiny legendary, it will still have the chance of 1/8192, not set in stone it will be shiny next time.

Pokeradar can find shinies but it doesn't increase chance. It only tells you where a shiny may be. You can only use it in grass and can't use the bike so it's pretty hard to use.

Shinies are only palette swaps nothing special about stats and abilities.

To increase the odds of getting a good natured shiny, get a level 1 abra with the nature you want, syncronize, and equip it with smoke ball. When you meet a shiny it will have a 50% chance of having that nature. It also works with legends.

Don't trade for shinies on GTS, it's just too hard to tell if it is legit.

To notice what a shiny is, it makes a ring of sparkles and some clinging noise. This also happens when it comes out of a pokeball.

To reset to get a shiny legend, soft reset is L R Start Select at once.

Shinies will produced evoled shinies.

Most vets are phazed by shinies in battle.

Just because you have 400 hours in the game doesn't mean you deserve a shiny. Because those with many shinies had to actually hunt for them, or get really lucky. If you spend dozen of hours planting berries, going in contents and battling online, how do you expect to encounter a shiny in the wild?

4:Abilities

Abilities, introduced in the Ruby and Saphire era are unique to the Pokemon it is on.Some Pokemon share an Ability, others have two such as Porygon-Z which has Download and Adapt. Not all abilities help the pokemon though, some such as Slack off on Slaking (which makes him able to attack every 2 turns) or Slow Start on Regigas.A Pokemon can only have one ability and it is unchangable (unless you use Pokesav).Every Pokemon has an ability. Some abilities stop status conditions like Limber(which prevents Paralysis),not all abilities are for battle though.Arena traps increases encountering a wild Pokemon up to 200%.

5:What is a Nintendo event?

A Nintendo event is held in real life, most of these are in Japan and America. When you there will be a machine, the machine unlocks the event and gives you an item.then you will go ingame to the place where the Pokemon is, you will catch it as a normal Pokemon. Most are either Level 30 or level 70.

This is not the only way to get event Pokemon, in Emerald peoples used AR(Action Replay) to teleport to the islands. Some hackers made them apear as a wild Pokemon, but this may result in a bad egg.The last way is to use a Pokemon Maker put in it's Moves level etc and it will appear in the Box it is set to go in.

6:What is an EV?

Ahh EVs, the most important thing about being competitive, well where do we start.

EV's are hidden, but are there, when you defeat a Pokemon and get EXP you will get 1-3 EVs.Every 4 EV's gets you 1 stat point. One stat can have 255 EV's (though only put 252 in the stat at Max) this makes a 63 stats boost.A Pokemon only gets 510 EV places.Lets say you deafeat 4 Zubats, each one gives of 1 Speed EV, you have now got 1 stat boost in Speed.EV training is quite quick and not as hard as you think. If you use certain Berries they take away 10 EV's from a stat. Here is the list.

Pomeg=HP
Kelpsy=Attack
Qualot=Defense
Hondew=Special Attack
Grepa=Special Defense
Tamato=Speed

The best places to EV train.

HP: Route 201 (Bidoof [1], run from Starly), Windworks Valley (Shellos [1] and Bidoof, run from all others) and Route 222 (Gastrodon ONLY [2 apiece], run from everything else)

Attack EVs: Route 212 (Kricketune [2] and Bibarel [2], run from everything else)

Defense EVs: Iron Island Mines (Geodude family [dude 1, gravel 2] and Onix [1], run from Zubat Family)

Special Attack EVs: Old Chateau (The haunted house in Eterna Forest, Gastly family [Gastly 1, Haunter 2 *GBA SLOT*, Gengar 3 *GBA SLOT*])

Special Defense: Any SEA ROUTE (Tentacool Family ['cool 1, 'cruel 2], run from everything else)

Speed: Ravaged Path (that cave between Jubilife and Floroma, Zubats [1], run from Geodudes (if on land) and Psyduck (if surfing))

From ChrisLv255 from Gfaqs

You know those vitamins? Well those gives you 10 EV's each! But you can only use 10 on each stat making 100 total. This is very useful since it will make it quicker, much quicker. But remember, the 10 evs comes off you 510 EV spaces.Heres is a list of vitamins and what EVs they are for.

Protein - Attack
Iron - Defense
Calcium - Sp. Attack
Zinc - Sp. Defense
Carbos - Speed
HP-UP - HP

Remember to remember that what ever EV's you put on your pokes, they MUST be divisable by four.

6a:Pokerus and Macho Brace

Heres is an eaier way to EV train, Macho Brace is an item which doubles EVs and Pokerus is a disease(a good one) which doubles Pokerus.Lets start by saying I defeat a Zubat and my Tyranitar has Macho brace, now instead of getting one EV he gets gets two EV's then if Tyranitar has Pokerus it would go to 4 EVs (one stat point).By doing this it is four times faster (only requires killing 63 zubats to get 252 EV's in Speed).Macho Brace is in Pastoria City, a man wants you to show him the three forms of Burmery.Pokerus is randomely obtained by catching a wild Pokemon with it.When you have it put the infected pokemon in your party to spread it and then put a Pokemon with it in the PC so you won't lose it.

7:IVs and Hidden Power

IVs stand for Individual Values. In the RBY and GSC generations IV's ranged from 0-15.IV's are now 0-31.IVs are random, they are like STAT point add ons. Each stat has IVs in it.When near level 30 or over the IVs are added.

IVs pick your HP (hidden Power) type and the power(max is 70).Hidden Power can be any typ which is obviously very good.Sadly Hidden Power is now Special only and not as useful as before.

7a:Breeding for IVs

This is pretty simple, you breed two pokemon and 1 IV is passes from Mom and 1 is passed from Dad and 1 from a random parent.

Example:

Magikarp Male
30 HP
0 SP atk
2 Spdef
3Attack
5Def
7Speed

Female Magikarp

0 HP
30 SP atk
2 Spdef
3Attack
5Def
7Speed

Baby
30,0 or random HP
0,30 or random SP Attack
2 Sp def or random
3 Attack or random
5 Def or random
7 Speed or random

8:Natures

Natures are important for a good Pokemon. They add 10% on a specific stat and decrease 10% on another one. There are 24 natures all together.Natures are completely random except when breeding(see 8a).Adament is mostly used for Physical sweepers and Modest for special sweepers(Adament adds Attack and decreases Sp Attack). There are three natures that are neautrul with all stats though, these are not recommended. Here is a list of natures and what they add and decreases.

http://www.serebii.net/games/natures.shtml

8a:Everstone and breeding?

When you breed a Pokemon attach an Everstone and the baby has a 50% chance it will have the nature of the Everstone's holder. This is a quick and easy way to get the right natures.

9:Tier

Tiers are groups of Pokemon which are set in Uber, Standard, Border line, Under used and Never used.tiers tell us whether the Pokemon is worth using in ---- play.

9a:Whats the point of tiers?
One of the most annoying topic, they state that we should use our favourites or the Uber tier is pointless, these people are either misinformed or ignorant. The tiers where made for a special reason which these people did not catch on.The reason is to let every Pokemon to be useful. An example is this, not playing with tiers player A uses Butterfree player B uses Tyranitar. It is obvious who wins. Now with tiers player A can use his Butterfree and it'll be useful in its tier.

Ubers are banned from Standard and lower stages is because they are broken. Many people say ''Counter it then!'' This is not a reasonable excuse, to be able to counter an Ubers is possible but it wastes time and effort.Ubers are playable in their tier so if both players would like Ubers too be acceptable then that is fine.

Pokemon are also set in groups, first theres sweepers, they mostly have powerful Attack or Sp Attack and Speed. Then there are tanks these have good Defence(s) and ok Sp/Attack.We also have walls such as Blissey, they normaly do not attack and stick with Defensive moves. They have high HP and Defence(s).We then have Spikers, these guys have Spikes and Whirlwind, Skarmory is a common spiker.Next is hazers these have Haze which get rids of the stat boosts.Lastly we have annoyers, they are normaly stacked with status inflicting moves.

Here is the list of tiers.

http://basics.pldh.net/tiers.shtml

10:What makes an uber,uber?

Well Ubers normaly have abnormal stats and cheap tricks.Mew can learn any move which is why it's uber.Rayquaza is uber because of his stats and Wobbuffet is uber because of a cheap trick.Tyranitar may be uber because of Sanstorm increasing his Base Stat Total to 670.Every Uber is an Uber for a good reason. If someone asks you which is the weakest uber reply with Deoxys-Emerald(speed form). However there is no strongest Uber since some have different means for being uber.

Here are the ubers.

Arceus
Darkrai
Deoxys
Deoxys - E
Deoxys - F
Deoxys - L
Dialga
Giratina
Groudon
Ho-Oh
Kyogre
Latias
Latios
Lugia
Mew
Mewtwo
Palkia
Rayquaza
Wobbuffet
Manaphy

10a:Why is Wobbuffet uber?

It's his moveset you see heres how it goes.

Tyranitar uses Stone edge
Wobbuffet uses Encore
Tyranitar uses stone edge
Wobbuffet uses Counter
and so on, or!

Aggron uses Thunder Wave
Wobbufett uses Encore
Aggron uses Thunder Wave
Wobbuffet switches into ---
Aggron uses Thunder wave
---- beats Aggron.

Also his ability prevents the opponent from switching. Also Wobbufett could use Safe gurd to prevent ---- getting Paralysed.

10b:Why might Tyranitar be Uber?

Because before DP he was a high OU, very good with nice BST(base stat total) movepool and typing(well sorta ).Now he went a little too far, you see now Sandstorm raises Rock Pokemon Sp Def by 50% and well Tyranitar's ability makes a sandstorm whcih makes his BST 670 which is higher than some ubers.Smogon is still deciding whether he should be an Uber or not.Though he will most likely be in OU still since he still has big weaknesses like Close Combat.

11:Wait, Rotom isn't a legendary?

He isn't here are the reason why people think he is.

High No. in Pokedex.
LEgendary Music
Only one

Though here are the reason why he isn't.

He is caught at level 15
Isn't all that good to use
He breeds

12:What Pokemon can't you get?

xNightBladEx from gfaqs has kindly written this up, kudos to him.

12a:Old starters

These must be obtained in the GBA versions of the game then transferred using Palpark, but once in Diamond or Pearl, they can be bred to create more.

12b:Old legendaries

These pokemon can so far only be obtained in the third generation of games, and can only appear in Diamond/Pearl using PalPark and can't be bred. You have to get them in one of the GBA games, then transfer them to Diamond or Pearl using the Palpark. They can't be bred so you can't have these have you as their Original Trainer unless you hack.

Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres
How to obtain: Capture in FireRed/LeafGreen or transfer to GBA from XD.

Mewtwo
How to obtain: Capture in FireRed/LeafGreen.

Raikou/Entei/Suicune

--------------

That's the list of pokemon you get from palpark only, but there are many more pokemon unobtainable in Diamond/Pearl.

12d:GBA slot Pokemon.

These are mostly older pokemon, but also some new evolutions, that can only be obtained by either transferring them through palpark, breeding... or catching them in Diamond/Pearl with a specific GBA game inserted!
Names enclosed in parentheses indicate an evolved form of a pok?mon that can be caught this way.
* indicates an evolution new in this generation.

Seedot/Nuzleaf/(Shiftry)/Mawile/Zangoose/Solrock
How to obtain: Have Ruby inserted.

Lotad/Lombre/(Ludicolo)/Sableye/Seviper/Lunatone

How to obtain: Have LeafGreen inserted.

subtotal: 39
tally: 87

12e:New event Pokemon

The big secretive pokemon of the new generation.

Darkrai/Shaymin/Arceus
How to obtain: ? You need to trigger an event in your game, but these have not been made available yet.

Manaphy:
How to obtain: You must have Pokemon Ranger, beat everything in it, then enter the password from the official site and do another mission. With this done your Pokemon Ranger game will have the ability to transfer one Manaphy egg to Diamond or Pearl. Easy to get if you have Ranger but an event pokemon nontheless.

Phione:
How to obtain: Not an event Pokemon, but can only be obtained by breeding a Manaphy with a Ditto.

subtotal: 5
tally: 92

12f:Some others and Total

Hey, look, another two(three) Pok?mon you can't get without one of the GBA games.

Tropius/Tangela/(Tangrowth*)
How to obtain: Get them in the GBA games, then use palpark, Tangrowth automatically becomes unavailable in Diamond/Pearl because of this. Tangrowth needs to be evolved in Diamond or Pearl.

Regigigas

This beast gets its own subheader because it's a pokemon that, to be able to fight and catch, you need to use palpart to get the 3 Regis from Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, and have them in your team when you go to Regigigas.

subtotal: 4
tally: 96

GRAND TOTAL

Total number of Pok?mon: 493
Total number of Pok?mon normally unobtainable in Diamond/Pearl: 96
Total number of Pok?mon normally available in Diamond/Pearl: 397

Of course you still need to traind and breed pokemon like Eevee for its multiple evolutions, and find someone to give you the other two starters.

========================================================

Now what if you only have one game??

This section is a little redundant because with wifi you can still get these pokemon from other people with diamond/pearl.

Pokemon you can't catch in Diamond but that you can catch in Pearl:
Slowpoke/Slowbro/Slowking/Misdreavus/Mismagius/Pinsir/Stantler/Seal
Sealeo/Walrein/Houndour/Houndoom/Bagon/Shelgon/Salamence/Glameow/Purugly
Sheildon/Bastiodon/Palkia

Pokemon you can't catch in Pearl but that you can catch in Diamond:
Seel/Dewgong/Larvitar/Pupitar/Tyranitar/Syther/Scizor/Murkrow/Honchkrow
Poochyena/Mightyena/Aron/Lairon/Aggron/Kecleon/Cranidos/Rampardos/Stunky
Skuntank/Dialga

------------------

TRADE-EVOLVE POKEMON

Some pokemon can only be gotten if you trade the, some of these had pre-evolved forms and therefore need items attached to them when being traded to evolve.

This are the old ones:
Gengar/Machamp/Alakazam/Golem

These are the old ones whose pre-evolved version needs to be holding a specific item:
Steelix/Politoed/Porygon2/Kingdra/Scizor/Slowking/Huntail/Gorebyss

And the new ones in this game:
Rhyperior/Electrive/Magmortar/Porygon-Z/Dusknoir

Remember that Electrive and Magmortar can't be gotten in Diamond or Pearl only because their pre-evolved versions need a GBA game inserted.

All items required can be found in Diamond and Pearl normally though, except for the ones required to evolve Electrive and Magmortar, they appear on wild Maby and Elekid if you have FireRed of LeafGreen inserted.

13:What is stab?

STAB stands for Same Type Attack Bonus. When a Pokemon uses an attack the same type as it it is multiplied by 1.5.Example is Ledian uses Silver wind instead of it hurting 60 it hurts 90.This is useful.Btw STAB affects Hidden Power(s).

14:What are those little phrases?

They represent IV,it will pick the highest IV and put the phrase that will represent it.

Here is a guide at Serebii

http://www.serebii.net/games/characteristics.shtml

What is Pokesav?

Pokesav is program for Windows and Mac designed for AR DS and Flash Cards for DS's (like R4 or M3).With Pokesav you edit your boxes, activate events and create Pokemon like that, you can edit anything in the game even little details like genders and records.Using with Flash cards is easier since you can edit everything at once while AR DS makes codes.

IMO, this topic is not needed and shouldn't be here... This is a forum about competetive battling in 4th generation Pokemon, it has little to do with Diamond and Pearl themselves... In fact, with Shoddy around, there is really not even a need to actually have the game at all...
