Gaming@NINA

Ok so im currently trying to run XenoGears on Epsxe i need someone to tell me a few things, primarily am i meant be able to see anything other than a black screen with a bit of flashing red at the start of the game after the initial cut scene with the ship? Atm ive tried Epsxe 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 and all i get at this point is txt from fei just before he is attacked by the other gears and im assuming that there is some image at this point, ive tried playing this game before as well and it also happens when the village is attacked and never shows anything that is happening just the txt...Now this may just be a weird thing with the game and since ive never played it properly i have no way of telling, its kinda like trying 2 play emerald/other pokemon games before the emulator could run flash inside caves just random blackness...any help would be appricated on this so i can play this game without missing out on wat seem to be rather important points in the game..
