Much thanks to any and all that have taken the time to look at this!

I've recently tried downloading several of the Harvest Moon games (my favorite!), but I don't think many (if any) were successful. Even if they were, I'd probably not know it because I'm completely lost when it comes to this kind of stuff.

I just need some kind of tutorial or someone incredibly patient to tell me what these emulators, roms, .zip and .rar things are and what exactly they mean. All the ones I've downloaded have been in .zip or .rar and I thought that would be it, but then I see different explanations telling me to extract this and that or to download something else. But for the life of me I can't figure it out.

Please, I've been searching for these games for a long time and I really could use some help. I'm sure many people have already asked these kinds of questions, and it probably gets old for the pros out here, but I really would appreciate any advice and pointers you could give me.  :)

Thanks!
tell me what these emulators, roms, .zip and .rar things are and what exactly they mean
emulators are pretty much what the word means they emulate or try to copy/reproduce something, in this case they emulate the hardware that the games run on...for example an game boy emulator attempts to reproduce the same enviroment that the games would run in that a real game boy would provide

rom stands for "read only memory", the games come as rom images, or exact copies of the read only memory that would be provided in a cartridge etc. these come as different formats in most cases they are the name of the console eg nintendo ds roms would be .nds, game boy advance .gba etc but not always...
emulators create the enviroment to run the software that the rom contains
some other consoles use cd's or dvd's for their games, in this case the games come as "disk images" these can be a variety of formats usually .iso

.rar and .zip are compression formats. when a file is compressed its size is reduced so that there will be a smaller download. to get the roms out of these files you need to install software such as winRAR it will extract the files from both .zip and .rar the files left will then be able to be run

here is a link for winRAR

hope that helped
