So I started looking into Alcohol 120% (and eventually 52% once I understand fully what it does).

From what I can see, it should be able to run an ISO on a virtual drive.

This would mean that I should be able to run DvDs without burning them to a disc, and even play certain PC games.

Has anyone else tried using this software? All I need is the ISO and to create a virtual drive, correct? I'll start experimenting myself once I get a bit more time, of course.

(Note: Some PC games have CD keys, and there are key-generators which are known to be a little malicious. If you happen to look into this software, avoid key-gens because they have a chance of screwing up your PC and people's actual CD keys for the hard copies of their games. Morality and all that stuff.)

Alcohol 120% enables you to make a duplicate back-up to recordable media of nearly all your expensive Game/Software/DVD titles, and/or an image that can be mounted and run from any one of Alcohol's virtual drives.

This program makes ISo/etc files from your CD"s and then will run/play them for you, without having to ever use the original CD again,

Makes exact copies of your CD's,
made into .ISO files that Alcohol, will mount on a fake drive, it creates and will run  the ISO files the same as if the cd was in the drive,

If all you want to do is mount ISO's, Daemon Tools is a free option. (That said, it clashes with Alcohol - so you can have one or the other.)

When it comes to burning copy protected games, I use CloneCD for that. Works fine.
