Taken from Gamespot:

"...In the latest development of the $10 million-plus marketing campaign for Bungie's sci-fi shooter Halo 3, Microsoft has teamed with Wal-Mart to provide dedicated checkout lanes during the midnight launch events at select stores. In addition to offering "the fastest way to play," Wal-Mart will be handing out Halo 3 dog tag tchotchkes while supplies last.

Best Buy has also jumped on the Halo-hype bandwagon. The electronics giant is currently sponsoring Halo 3 picture packs and themes on Xbox Live. In case it isn't yet painfully obvious, Halo 3 will be available for the Xbox 360 on September 25. It is rated M for Mature. Many Best Buy locations will be holding midnight launch events...
"

As we all know, Halo 3 is going to be huge. It already has over 1 million pre-orders. Apparently, it's going to be using 3 processors while running the game.

Will it live up to the hype?
Will it be as good as Halo 1 or 2?

Discuss!

Under normal circumstances, you would be right. However, the game is breaking records.

And that third processor is creating all of the backgrounds in real time. It's no pseudo 2D background far off in the distance. All of it is created in real-time with the game engine. In theory, you could shoot objects hundreds of feet away and actually hit them.

Halo 2 is also the biggest, most popular game on Xbox Live. Halo 3 is expected to top that.

I seriously don't understand what all the fuss is about over the Halo games? They're practically the same as every other damned FPS out there, only more mediocre, yet everyone continues to fap over videos and pics of Halo 3.

I will never understand the human race.

Yes, but I said it's breaking records and doing things that other games haven't. It really is unique.

The game is very popular, and it must be popular for reason. Granted, some games that SHOULD be popular aren't, so things work strange like that...

Halo is generally balanced and easy to get into. Looks good, controls are great... it's perfect for the mainstream. For example, Counter-Strike, on the otherhand, while being a good game it's still very difficult for begginers. So a seemingly mediocre game, as you say, like Halo, can go far. (Sorry for the comma heavy sentences, lol).

I think its safe to call me a halo 2 addict.

You can;t seriously call the halo games just another fps. The controls are easy to use, the gameplay is great (I play matches for hours and hours and still want to play more)

Me and my friends play the system link, and its incredible. The game modes give great variety. Lots of different weapons and vehicles give variety in fights and it just doesn't get boring as fast.

The maps have tons of variety for large changes in scenery.

If halo 3 is as good or better then halo 2 it will be the greatest game ever made. And I seriously mean that.

..and Halo 3 will have a map editor. Yes, make your own maps.

You have permission to crap yourself with excitement.

Though the Sim City 2000 was much, much, much more simpler than anything for Halo would be.

Anyway, if you crap yourself over a map editor, you need Adult Diapers, yeah.

Anyway, personally, I just can't stand Halo. I tried playing it on PC, and god, that makes most free FPSes look inviting in comparision.

I actually somewhat like the storyline and some aspects of the gameplay are better than other FPS games. That said, I don't like the checkpoint style saving in the game.

Perfect Dark for N64 or Perfect Dark Zero?

...Perfect Dark Zero sucked.

Halo 2 made a huge jump in quality in comparison to Halo 1. What would be your ideal shooter? - aside from Bioshock (Bioshock is newer than Halo 2 and gets a few advantages like being on the more powerful 360).

Sigh, I wish I could play games at the moment :(

My computer is crashing frequently (it's what happens when you're running an X1650 Pro on a 300W power supply.)

if the PC version is anything like the xbox one....i would say it is just like any other fps, the controls are just like any other fps and the game play is far behind the likes of half life 2 and bioshock

still a good game though

Would you rather go catch your Pokemans for hours or level ur guyz on Final Fantasy? Ha ha ha.

Everyone has personal tastes, no?

I understand what you're saying, though, Eggie. Games like Half-Life 2, Far Cry, etc etc. are all similar or better than Halo 1. If you get the chance to play Halo 2 on an Xbox (or on Vista) then I'd reccomend it you try that instead. Keep in mind that Halo 2 is aging... so it might not be as epic as when it first came out.

At the very least, find a buddy who has a 360 and steal it so you can play Halo 3 for a bit.
