yeah downloading mp3's is Illegal, big companies spend millions on purchasing the rights to songs and then sell the sods to us,.......so by law yeah all terribly wrong, however, am i going to go to the shop and pay Not a chance my moral compas points to my p2p program and im not stoping till i hear the sirens out side. also alot of folk out there who are up and coming are exploiting the exposure that the internet gives, but once they get a deal there new stuff would be copy righted id assume (making the downloading of it for free illegal obv)

Well most MP3 that people download are copyrighted. The only way for it to be legal would be through napster or Apple's Itunes.

Otherwise any mp3 download of copyrighted material is consider illegal. Not unless they wanted you to download it for free.

I agree with doomknight, cuz if a band really is good, people will buy their cd anyway or go to their concert. Downloading mp3's is (for me) a way to find out if I like the song without wasting money if it sucks.

I download the stuff, and don't think another thing about it. I hear stories from my teachers saying thatFBI people will be knocking at your door if you use the programs like Limeiwre, or Blubster. But it hasn't happened yet, so I will download until they do

the funny thing is, statistics say that artist and record companies lose 1/billionth of a Penny for every song downloaded

ok even if a billion songs are downloaded , its still a freaking penny

Its not really a crime since most individuals would have never purchased a CD anyway if they did not download the MP3.

lol wth, I download stuff for free, from illegal sites too. I can't say it's a crime but somewhere along the line it is illegal...so it can be considered a criminal offense but I don't.

It is stealing and stealing is Illegal. There is no ifs or buts, Downloading MP3's is a crime and your a criminal if you download MP3's that are copyright.

Some artists give out free MP3's to increase there popularity and those MP3's are ok.

Also please don't start on the "Why do they host MP3's on there sites if they don't want them stolen?" because some artists host some of there copyrighted MP3's on there sites for your listening pleasure. Even if it is piss easy to download them. There is an extremely thin line between legal and illegal when it comes to MP3's but the fact is, If you obtain a copyrighted MP3 without the Artist and all other company's obtaining money then it is illegal.

Technically, while it may be illegal in some countries, you may live in area where downloading of copyrighted material is either legal or unreferenced in the law.

i think that Canada has a grey area surrounding it, its legal to download but not to upload or something and they have a extra tax on mp3 players to compensate
