Its completly true, as you can see by the images, and the video, and though sites like www.4colorrebellion.coml, www.joystiq.com and www.kotaku.com.

After all, what do you expect from the wacky French people?

I expect them not to have a monarchy!
That revolution wasn't for nothing. And knights are traditionally royal armed forces. The Brittish still knight people, the queen's in on that somehow. Also the queen tends to knight Brittish citizens, not people from Japan.

I guess I just don't understand the French government.
I do happed to like the French though.

After actually reading the article it seems that the minister of culture in France gave our some awards. The Chevalier thing (translated literally to Knight) seems to mean something else. Probably 'high award'.

I'm not up on my France French. I'm a Quebec French speaker.

Monarchy's do that. not just the queen of england. Other kings and queens do that. there just aren't many other kings and queens these days. Especially any high profile ones.

France doesn't have a monarchy though, cause if you'll remember the French had a revolution in the late 1700s (1789-1799 actually) in which most of the rich people of the country, including the monarchy at the time, were beheaded. After that tehy formed a government like the ones seen in places like the United States or maybe even Germany.

This 'France not having a monarchy' thing confuses everything.

Ok, I guess I understand.  Except for the reason of why France wants to Knight a Japanese man...
