A professor from chair of quantum and optical electronics of the Ulyanovsk State University in western Russia has patented a method of making things invisible, Interfax news agency reported.

The so-called invisibility cloak, created by Oleg Gadomsky, is called “The method of conversion of optical radiation” in the patent.

Gadomsky had been long experimenting on nanoparticles of gold. Thus, he invented a sub-micron stratum of microscopical colloid golden particles that makes an object placed behind it invisible for an observer.

“Only static objects can be made invisible for the time present, as during motion a radiation frequency changes. But soon it will be possible to create a cap of darkness and a magic cloak of Harry Potter, the scientist believes.

Looks like a photoshop job.
Look at the very tip of his hood.
You should only see green.

yeah, you would see tree's color at the very tip of his hood, its blue like the van, it should have been green like the tree color. It's a fake image, but the news may be true.

it doesnt have to be green. If you look at the rest of the jacket you'll notice everything on the jacket is a little higher than its supposed to be. But the one that that made me doubtful was the smiley face on the back of the shirt.

I dunno, im doubtful bout the image. I just can't see why they would put funding into a project to create an invisibility cloak. dont scientists have better things to do?

If you look carefully your notice is part of the wheel not a smiley face.

I have seen different invisibility cloaks in a newspaper once. But for them you needed to be completely still and you also needed some kind of projector (I think).

thatd be a good way to sneak around a bank at night. dragging all this equipment around the building to be invisible.

Well i know what i'd use it for...sneaking into a females house and...well you get the picture...but seriously i doubt it is true...

Well, if it is true, one thing we all know that is that you won't be seeing your average-joe type wearing this, it'll be for the rich and the milatary only.

Well, its still a basic prototype. Its not able to go completly invisible just yet.

The picture is a photoshop job.  A person who knows that there is no point trying to cloak a moving object would not bother making a device to do so, let alone a jacket of all things.  Plus cloth would not be the correct medium for such a device, as even if a person is standing still cloth will move in the wind.

Yes, much of the image on the jacket is moved up just a bit, but not the pattern on the truck, that blurry arcing thing.  It stays in place, but the bottom of the truck is shifted upwards.

And anyways, since it is Russia, that poor scientist is probably never going to set foot out of the country again.  The potential is way to valuable to risk it getting leaked.

Well maybe it imitates the colour of whatever you are pressed up against kinda like camoflauge

He's not pressed up against the truck, and like Drifter said, why would he make it into a coat if it doesn't work when it's moving?

Its still in very early prototype stages, it doesn't do invisibility properly yet, it still has many glitches, and won't be fully working for a long time.

Well, the part of the image where the man is is distorted averywhere. if you look at the bottom of the hold on the van an then where it should be throught the man, it is slightly higher like everything else seen throught the man so I dont see why the tip of his hood should be green... Anyway, even through saying that, I still think the image is fake, but same, the news is true
