How do you get inspired to make a masterpiece? Do you just open up photoshop and get invigorated? Or does it take something more?
______

I usually don't even open up any programs anymore, not as much as I used to. I used to make a sig a day. I'm lucky if I make a sig a week now. But if I hear a really good song. Or if I see something in real life/internet thats so artisticly rich I just have an urge to create something as beautiful.

For me, It usually takes a bit of time playing around with a blank signature before I find some where to go with it. After that it just sort of falls together. Some times I'll see some one elses work and get inspired to try the same style only tweak it to my taste.

Recently I've been trying to create a new avatar to suite me, but the only ones I like are two old ones.

'Inspiration' to me is just an excuse to mimic someone else's work.  I try to stay away from any inspiration.

But I usually try to fashion my sigs to fit their purpose, as well as their render.  Of course, I don't have a wide array of techniques to call upon, so lately everything seems to be looking the same.

I hear you though, deep_dive.  I used to work on graphics for hours at a time, almost everyday, and now even when I do feel like opening up Photoshop I usually don't keep anything I make.

That statement just seems incredibly retarded to me.. Not to come off as flamming.. but maybe you don't know what 'inspiration' means?

I pretty much feel the same as Deep. When I first started I was doings sigs the whole time for like 5 months. Now I make sigs much about once a week. But sometimes I just see or hear something and I suddendly just wanna open up Photoshop and get that cool sig ive painted in my mind into the comp. Then when I try to do that I usually start, go half-way, delete the whole pile of crap and try again. Its the inspiration that keeps me going.

I'll just ignore Drifter's post...

I feel the same as you, Mana.  I used to be so caught up in doing all of this.  Now, I may go for weeks without opening Photoshop.  I usually make a background based on what I feel at the time.  Then I choose colors that fit the same mood.  I add text, and then I gosearching for a render that fits (color or emotionaly).  Some times I have to change the render to make it fit (recolor).  But most of the time, it  fits perfectly.  That is what I think Inspiration is. Not mimiccing (sp?) someone else's work, but finding something that makes me want to do something and adding things.

Well for me, the best way to get some inspiration is to look through some games magazines. Have a look at the detail of the characters throughout the book, examine how perfect they appear. You could also look on websites and get a few new examples of photoshop sigs that people have been making. Some may show off some stuff that you have never really tried to do, you just have to have a good imagination and experiment alot.
