Now to knock the superstitious theories because i still turn to them once in a while, but this is what scientists believe.
The boats: Gas comes up from the ocean floor. Sure gas is always in and coming out of the ocean, but this is different. The theory is that the gas bubbles are either big enough or made of a special kind of gas, and ruins the boat's bouyancy. Boat sinks directly to the ocean floor, doesn't pass go, doesn't collect $200.
The planes: Some other people hit this one right on the head. The theory is that there's a magnetic disturbance in the Bermuda Triangle that messes up a plane's compass and <speculation>it's other navagational systems that rely on the compass or Earth's magnetic field</speculation>. The planes circle around until they run out of fuel and crash.
