For some odd reason, I dont like games where the main character uses a spear. I have no idea why..I mean just a couple of days ago I read some reviews about "Terranigma" and thought to download and play it. After learning the main character uses a spear, I immediately cancelled the download and went ton a search for a new game..
Am i the only one who feels this way? lol

Well thats a very strange thing there Crimson. But I agree in so far that I sometimes dont like a game's setting while I would potentially like its gameplay. I don't like the whole urban/gangsta theme in San Andreas. It didnt stop me from playing it but I'd rather see a different theme. And now a lot of games are copying GTA: SA with the whole urban thing..argh.
And dont get me started with "Cell Shaded". That was a really dumb thing a lot of games suddenly needed to have. Why the heck does a racing game need cell shaded graphics? honestly..

Meh....some games need to be cell shaded and others...well no.
I somewhat feel the same way about spears, since they are limited, though the only time I did enjoy a spear was in Dynasty Warriors 5, the guy with the spear was ok, since you could use alot more actions with the spear than the other characters

Anyway Satyr, the main character in Terrenigma uses tons of different weapons, if you don't like the spear, change to a different weapon (unless you hate axes)
and even if the spear is the first weapon (I'm not sure), you get another one very early in the game, it's been a while since I played.

I have two opinions on spears/bows (imo bows are a little similar to spears) I played Baldur's gate 2 and some sequel to it, I used the bow because I can use it from a distance. But it's harder to aim with a bow. Now that I have read my own reply, I see that spears are different from bows ;p
I don't like spears that much because imo, they are too long, thus making you fight slower then with for example, a sword.

Swords are the best weapon ever. Balanced in speed and strength. Why do you think so many people use them to kick ass?
Spears are only good against cavalry units because they dont have the evasion of a foot soldier. Other than that, spears suck and i hate them in every game i've played except dynasty warriors, because every weapon is god damn leet in that game.

What? If you playaz think that spears suck, then i don't think you'd win many games. To win any game you have to when and how to use every weapon effectively, if ya don't know how to do that then your opponents will have an advantage on ya. Spears are great because you can effectively keep your opponent at a range while still being able to protect yourself. Most people like swords better as they're easier to use, but the potential for a trained spearman is much more powerful than the potential for a swordsman.
History has shown us that spears have been the more effective weapon. Ever since the Roman times, Cavalry have been a powerful war weapon, spearman were trained in order to counter Calvalry Tactics. Soon Swordsman were disbanded altogether as Spearman were found to be a much more powerful melee combatant. Even leading into the Gunpowder age, Soldiers were still equipped with 'Bayonets' the modern equivelent of a spear. These were not only effective at killing the enemy quickly, but they could also be used to setup effective barricades that were almost impenetrable to the enemy no matter which way they approached it.
Spears are also much more effective for producing effective tactics in groups. The Roman Turtle Formation where the Legions would interlock their shields together to stop all arrow fire from entering was one of the most effective tactics ever in warfare and was one of the main factors in Rome's conquest of Europe. The soldiers could attack their enemies with their spears through the small gaps in their shields, which would have been impossible if they were using swords.
Also a spear makes it much easier to block attacks coming from multiple foes, let alone attack them. It's also a much more flexible weapon compared to a sword in the hands of a capable spearman, and most armors become severly damage from a sucessful hit with a spear, the spear's piercing action is extremely damaging, and can create mortal wounds in an instant, in fact.
Overall Spears are much more effective in combat than Swords could ever be.

Well some people are saying that spears suck or that swords are the best so i'm just explaining to them why spears are the best in fact.

Which I assume you all hate anyway, but speas the weapon is ok. I just got Dynasty Warriors for PSP and the guy I'm suing is a spear guy. He seems to kill a whole lot of midless enemies with it.
