I nominate: Diablo 2 LoD
reason: It has won countless awards over the years (http://www.blizzard.com/inblizz/awards.shtml), it is absolutely FREE to play online, it was developed by one of the most effective and successful game companies in the world (every game from Blizzard Entertainment has been an undeniable success. If you haven't played Starcraft, Diablo or Warcraft, then you must be either very young, or someone living under a rock in a desert), and it had me addicted for TWO years, longer than any other game had managed to do. You will not be disappointed if you buy this game.

Do action RPG's count? If so, I vote for Ys: the ark of napishtim. (Part 6 of the series, on the ps2) I found it easy to beat the game, normally I'm not that good at games. Although I had a little trouble with the final boss, it had 2 or 3 forms. It had nice graphics and it had a happy sort of feeling in it.
If not, I choose The Legend of Dragoon. It has 4 discs, so you can play it for a while, good graphics even if it's for the psx. I like the characters and the moves they can make and learn in the attack system. I still haven't beaten it though, but I will someday.

I nominate: Sword of mana.
I nominate sword of mana because the game was really great with all the weapons and so many side quests which made it a great RPG.
You also could switch between so many partners, in different parts of the game you got a different partner with different abillities.
There was also a different story line depending on who you picked at the start,
And the game never got boring it was something that you could play and always want to come back for more.

Well, since KH has already beeen nominated, I pick Star Wars: Knights of the Old Repubic.
Reason: Very compelling storyline with plenty of twists, Very detailed characters with in-depth past stories, uses the popluar D&D combat system, has a unique method of leveling up which makes characters extremely customizable, detailed environments and dozens of abilities make this one of the best RPGs ever.
