The game shouldn't. What most likely will happen is that your Operating System (Windows) would minimize the game and show a message to you saying "YOURE RUNNING OUT OF MEMORY!!! DELETE SOME STUFF NOW!!!!".

On a GBA or on VBA? VBA (the emulator) uses very little memory. But if you do indeed run low on HD space, a message of warning would pop up advising you to clear more space on your HD.

He means that if you're running low on space, Windows will minimize whatever programs you have open and show you that message telling you to delete some stuff. Nothing will happen to your game or save file. For memory-extensive programs like photoshop though, windows will most like shut it down automatically. I don't think it will happen to your emulator, but it's best to save frequently to prevent that from happening.
