Okay I'm trying to connect with a guy from this forum in order to play Four swords. All we get though is that "waiting for players" screen.I also have many questions.

1)Do I have to open the rom first,or should I leave it without any rom loaded, try to connect, and then load the game?
2)I have dynamic ip.Can someone tell me if this could cause the problem? We tried with him being the server, too,but it didn't work(I don't know if he has dynamic ip,too).
3)We both use VBALink 1.7.3(or 2 don't remember).
4)I keep hearing about firewalls and stuff.I remember the first time I tried to connect(without anyone else,I just tried it out to see what happens),I was prompted to block the connection, let it happen and cancel/decide later.I'm not sure what I chose,so can someone tell me how to bring that thing back(or how to configure my firewall settings for vba from somewhere else?)
5)I have no idea what ports are.Can someone give a description and also tell
me how I can see what ports are used right now and how I can change them?
6)Does framerate affect the connection synchronisation?
7)Does video size affect it?
8)we both have broadband connection, but logically his is faster.Mine is 256KBit/s.(I said that his must be faster cause I live in Greece you know).Could it somehow affect the situation?

These are all the questions I can think of right now.
As other questions pop-up I will edit my post and ask.
Please note that I have looked over 5 pages of topics and the tutorial at gbxemu.com, so please son't tell me to look there.

Thanks in advance guys.I hope you can help me,cause I'm dying to play Four swords.

EDIT:About the IP.I went to "Properties" in my "Local area connection status" screen and in the item "internet protocol TCP/IP" I clicked on "properties" again. It shows many numbers, though only one of them appears when I click connect in my VBALink(as server).

In particular it has the following boxes:
-Obtain an IP address automatically.

-Use the following IP address:
1)IP address
2)Subnet Mask
3)Default Gateway

-obtain DNS server address automatically(greyed out)

-Use the following DNS server addresses:
1)Preferred DNS server
2)Alternate DNS server

Any information about these, too?(Sorry if that is too many questions)

End EDIT.

1. Load rom on both GBA, and then connect.
2. Dynamic IP should cause no problem as long as you know what THE CURRENT ADDRESS IS.
3. No problems there
4. Which firewall program are you using?
5. Don't worry about them. Problems only occur with ports if you try to establish TWO connections with your friend (i.e. try to connect using a third VBA)
6. No.
7. Frame rate? Yours only. Connection synch? Nope.
8. You will both play at a lower frame rate.

Okay that was helpful. One little thing more. How do I see the current address?Does it have to do with my EDIT above or something?
Is the current address shown when I am the server and press "connect"?

EDIT:sorry i forgot to answer that.I have norton internet security 2005,but I'm pretty sure it was an XP firewall(you know default one or something)

To find your own IP address, double click on the connection icon (right in task bar) which you are using to link to your friend (for example your internet connection). Click on Details, and your IP would be the IP in the "Client IP Address" field. Just tell your friend that IP address if he is connecting to you, or let him tell you his.
If you have Norton Internet Security, you can disable Windows firewall because Norton Firewall is much better. To do that, go to Network Connections in My Computer, right click on your internet connection or LAN icon, go to Properties, and click on the Settings button in the Advanced tab. Afterwards just click the "OFF (Not Recommended)" button, and you are done.
