I enjoy Starcraft better than Warcraft.
I played Warcraft by my friend and did not find it exciting at all.

Warcraft RTS was funnier, whereas StarCraft to me seemed too much like C&C, not a great fan of that.

Warcraft the MMORPG works better than a StarCraft one I think.

so..Warcraft

I think Warcraft is a better game in general. It has much better graphics and some features that other games don't (ie heros). I personally play Warcraft myself and is quite good at it. I tried Starcraft, but it wasn't as appealing to me. But IMO, Warcraft is too micro-based with not a lot of strategic choices. After so many years of patching, Blizzard has still not been able to completely balance Warcraft while Starcraft is almost perfectly balanced.

I think starcraft is better ....  Warcraft is too complex and unbalance...... But i still like its DotA maps....  and nice campaigns.....
Wish Blizzard will hurry up with the follow up of starcraft...... and hopefully wihout warcraft's graphic engine....(dont like it)

Ya, DotA is definitely a cool map to play with friends. One thing good about warcraft is that you can do so much with the map editor. People make very good custom maps for warcraft.

WHAT?  :o This is an unfair question. Ok here's a quick listing of where i rank the Starcraft/Warcraft games (without the RPG ones and expansions)

1. Warcraft III
2. Starcraft
3. Warcraft II
4. Warcraft

So obviously the later ones are better. On a whole i enjoy Starcraft more as there aren't many RTS's as good as it anymore. I'll now talk about how i felt about each game (i've played each one)

Warcraft: OMG, this game was where the first resource managment concepts came into place (along with Dune 2) the control system was horrible and the story failry boring as it was the first Warcraft game and the story wasn't developed yet. I still enjoyed it a lot, but no where near the fun you'd have with the later versions. The GFX and technology just weren't good enough to make a versatile RTS with.  :(

Warcraft II: I used to think the GFX of this game were almost identical with Starcraft's when i was a kid (as far as technology goes). But i just installed Warcraft II again recently and i've discovered the GFX really don't look that good, and the control system is still quite clunky. It's almost has an 'arcadish' feeling to it. Which isn't very comforting at all. I loved the revamped storyline though (that actually leads into Warcraft III) and the gameplay formula was what every single RTS would follow, even up to today (Command and Conquer also set the way RTS's would be). Overall it was a great RTS game but it's evidently dated by the high level GFX of a game like Warcraft III.

Starcraft: This was a change, Blizzard released a game with a similar name to Warcraft, but called it 'Starcraft', how intriuging. Starcraft has got to be one of the best RTS games ever made, it didn't just shape every RTS game ever to be made after it was released, it also stands as an excellent RTS, even by today's standards. It makes quite a few RTS's made today look ridiculous. Easily 5 years ahead of it's time Starcraft is just amazing.  :D

Starcraft was a huge change from Warcraft, it brought in new resources, and even though these were essentially new look Warcraft resources, the great thing about it was each race had different ways of harvesting it. In fact each race had different ways of doing just about everything. Gone were the days when each race was basically the same race with different skins and names with small changes.

Every race was completely different: The Terran were practical, and were easy to mobilise into just about any situation. The Zerg were aggressive, and were very easy to overwhelm an opponent, and The Protoss were conservative, and had their best weapons come late in the game. Each tribe had tons of strengths and weakness, and the depth of the game was equisite, it took years for gamers to master Starcraft, as there were always new things for them to learn and discover, new ways to take advantage of the game, and always new strategies to be thought up and excecuted. It also had arugably the best RTS storyline up to that point, and even rivaled the RPG's storylines.  ;D

Everything about Starcraft was great, and numerous expansions didn't disappoint, adding many new concepts and features to the game. Although the GFX are starting to look a little worn when compared to the numerous 3D RTS games made today. The speed and the pace of the game will never be lostand it's amazing what Blizzard managed to achieve with a few concepts and ideas as to how an RTS should be.

Warcraft III: It's hard to explain why this game should be classed over Starcraft. It took advantage of what made Starcraft so great, yet kept the same storyline and resources of Warcraft II. The great thing was the 4 tribes all were very unique in their own right (which is hard when you compare how similar the Orc and Human tribes used to be). Each tribe had their own way of building buildings, their own way of mining gold, their own way of gathering lumber. Each tribe had many different features that put it apart from the others. And the greatest thing of all by far were the new Hero units which added certain 'RPG elements' to the game, even if they were very linear. It was great to see what Blizzard had done again, and with superb GFX as well.  :)

The game was perfectly balanced and just like Starcraft, the multiplayer frenzy of discovering new tactics and exploiting them was ever present. Warcraft III also had huge mod support and many different mods of the game were created, much to the delight of fans. The Singleplayer campaign was one of the best ever, and the storyline took up where Warcraft II left off, and filled many of the mysteries confronting most players. The great thing was how each campaign, representing each tribe, was progressive, and the storyline and characters from each campaign blended in with each other, much to the help of the excellent hero units.

On a whole Warcraft III beat Starcraft, purely on it's better technology GFX, Sound, and RTS experiance. Both games are great in their own right, and depending on different peoples tastes, some may opt to stay with Starcraft. I personally like Starcraft better as the expansions were much more elaborate when compared to Warcraft III's 'The Frozen Throne'.

I just can't wait for Blizzard to release another RTS game, as they're really something to look forward to. I hope they actually release a Starcraft II this time  ;D

Crazylife, I agree with almost everything you say. The invisible line that draws between Warcraft II and Starcraft is the racial difference. Although there are 2 races to play in Warcraft II, the units in both races match and there are not a lot of difference.

Some people would argue Starcraft is a better RTS than Warcraft III, but it really depends on the person playing. Starcraft is a much more balanced game, even with racial difference. Warcraft III, on the other hand, is not balanced yet (trust me). But the main difference between the 2 games is the introduction of heros in Warcraft III. People who prefer Starcraft over Warcraft III most likely didn't like the idea of the hero system. BUT the thing that hooks the most people into WC3 is also the hero system. Of course, the graphics and sound are uncomparable. But if you factor graphics and sound out, I would think WC3 is about equally as good as Starcraft. It just depends on the person who plays it to decide which game is better.

Well Warcraft III gets extremely slow on most computers during the middle stages of a match, even on toned down GFX. There are just too many units on the field and unless your only playing a 4 Player or less game, things get very very chopish (as the game can't slow down if your playing online). The good thing about Starcraft is the non-3D GFX allow for much huger gameplay. You can have over a total of 400 units on the map at the same time without losing any speed, while Warcraft III suffers much earlier.

Which brings up anohter major difference: Starcraft allows for a lot more units to be deployed compared to Warcraft, which stops you from dominating the field with stronger monsters since they need a lot more food to be supported.

Though yeah, Warcraft III still needs some way to go to be balanced, though in some ways, that imbalance is what makes Warcraft III so exciting, there are always new strategies to invent which are based around the imbalances.  Quite complicated but they'll probably make final changes to the game with a later patch.

I'm a Starcraft fan, but Warcraft III is also good.  What it boils down to, for me that is, is I don't have the time (2 kids under 4) to put into learning how to effectively change my playstyle between the 2.

I think Warcraft III has a harder learning curve than Starcraft did.  Other than the differance in how each race in Starcraft played, it was easy to get into since it's kinda like everyother RTS out.

Warcraft III's Hero system really changes how you play the game.

I prefer warcraft better than starcraft because it appealed more to me. Besides, the main characters rule.I.E.Hellscream. He's my favorite.

Hellscream died, lol.

It was kinda funny how Gromm and Thrall tried to take on Mannoroth all by themselves, and didn't even get an army to help them, Gromm was destined to die newayz :P

World oof Warcraft is an MMORPG, but that's not the Warcraft we are talking about.  We are talking about the Warcraft strategy game series that WoW is based off of.
