LOL, what a cheap a** Sonic Team was back then..
Well,, it was Sonic 2. That was the first Sonic game I ever played and it's my all time favorite. Although the GBA games are just as good, none of the games can compare to Sonic the Hedgehog 2...Nothing..
I also enjoyed Sonic Adventure. Purely awesome game, with nice soundtrack too.

I like the Sonic Adventure 2 soundtrack, namely that first level song:
"Follow me, trust me and we will escape from the ci-ty"
It's awful yet good at the same time.

My favorite games there are SA2B, Sonic CD, and S3&K.
EDIT: There's also Sonic Schoolhouse. If you don't know what that game is like, don't ask. Especially about the field trips. Argh! Also, Special Stage mode by attaching a non-compatible game (one that doesn't get benefits from hooking up S&K).
