my pc has 114 gb in total, but there's only like 4 gb left. but I don;'t have a dvd burner, only a cd burner, but my boyfriend downloads the games for me :P
buying is faster I guess, but downloading for me is almost free. just have to buy dvd's for it, but those can be very cheap. If I had a dvd burner it would take ages to download a game, cuz it's actually my mother's pc and the pc can't stay on for a long time.
However, it wont stop pirating....i forget the exact timing but the specifications of a home computer will double every....3-4 years I think. Thus, huge HDDs will be common as will very fast download and upload speeds. I already know people who have two 250GB HDD installed to allow constant downloading.
And furthermore if you look at the price of DVD burners when they were first released they were extortionate prices (like most things) but as you can see now you can pick them up for £30 perhaps less.
maybe if the wanna have all the new games :P. but that is kinda sad, then you would be playing so many games at a time, I just stick to playing one game or maybe two at a time
You don't know the person whom I am talking about. And it isn't just games downloaded, music etc as well. And of course neither are full.
I Just wanted to point out that large files wouldn't stop people pirating.
Sorry if I seemed offended, so it is myself whom is sorry.
But anyway I guess only time will tell upon whether the PS3 will be successful along with a decent list of software to be released.
Actually it all depends on the price of the ps3. if it would not be cheaper than xbox360...well..people will most likely get 360. About revolution? MEH. I dont think people would get that even if it was free. :P
BTW ZHuge, i get your point about the pricay thing..i truly hope they dont stop >:)
if the xbox360 is cheaper than the ps3 I'll get that one if it has good games. I just want them both :P about the revolution, I don't think it''ll be good enough to buy. I already regret have bought a gamecube, it just stands there in the closet, poor thing.

It's a good idea having such large files.

Every 18 months, computer space and speed doubles is Moore's Law. But that's getting ready to stop because the space alloted on HDs is getting down to the atomic levels...And you can't really make anything smaller than an atom. That, and the photons reading discs are getting too tightly packed together, so if they somehow figure out how to make information on CDs smaller than atoms, the laser won't be able to read it. So...Don't have faith in Moore's law.
Certain DVDs can hold a lot more than the blank ones that you buy, btw. Certain games use many-leveled DVDs. I know Hitman2 was a DVD9, which had 9 layers. Games on ps2 can already get up to 25 gigs.
I'm not sure if it's blu-ray, but I remember seeing some kind of special disc that uses holographic technology instead of conventional means, and it can hold 500 gigs...Doubt it's blu-ray.
Anyways, game prices will not go up. At all. The DVDs they put games on now cost about 5$ to get, yet they charge up to $60 for games. What you pay for is the programming on the disc, not the disc itself. So don't worry about price increases on games...
