Most games that get a 18+ rating are probably ones that aren't really worth buying anyways, save for some good horror/survival games..that never can do without tons of bloodshed.

Maybe that'll make the game industry more aware of the fact that we dont need 500 hit zones in the enemy soldiers and a kamakazi AI so its easier to let the limbs fly or get the family jewels shot..=/..actually I dunno what game did that but ..violence should have its limits.

I approve that ruling (even though it wouldn't effect me even if I was under 18). It's about time that games were made the same as films. I don't believe that games and films cause violence (if you can't discern between reality and fantasy you're screwed up already and no game or film will change that) but if I had an 8 year old I wouldn't want him being able to rent\buy a Grand Theft Auto game or something like that. There are some things that should be kept from children (even if that includes supposed 'teens' under 18).

I used to work at a used game store and you wouldn't believe how many angry mothers would come in and yell at us for selling 'mature' games to their children. It was legal (and still is in Canada) so we weren't really responsible. Maybe this will teach some parents to be a little more responsible themselves, you know, pay attention to those ESRB ratings. I must point out though that I have yet to come across a game that is rated adult (21+ I think).

At least they aren't censoring the games. That would be awful. No amount of burned games or careless mothers would fix that.

There has never been a game released with that rating.  There was going to be a fighting game with it, but they scrapped it.

I've got mixed feelings about it, its really the parent's decision weither or not to allow they're kids to continue to play violent video games. However they do not appear to be doing they're part, I see 12 year olds playing CS Source all the time. I mean come ON. Due to the parent's laziness, the rest of us are made to suffer the conciquences. Im just glad Im over 18, stupid government, controlling one more thing of our lives.

Some parents don't care at all...some parents would rather their kids watch TeleTubbies till age 16 because they're so afraid of the portrayed violence in many movies and games.

As if the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles doesn't make kids do "violent" re-enactments. I mean they're MUTANT and NINJA for crying out loud. The point is that kids will have to deal with violence sooner or later anyway, however protective the parents are. If they dont get it at home then surely through other kids at school.

I believe a big ESRB sticker on the box of a game should be enough. Just because some idiotic 'kids' decided to play Doom in real life, or GTA, or whatever, doesn't mean all of the young ones will go mad when exposed to these games on perhaps an early age.

You can't tell me that if you had a kid you'd want to expose them to sex and violence right from the start.
Parents these days are willing to give up parental responsibility to other things out there (Tv, Games, etc.) and I feel that's wrong (not that a parent should hover over the kid constantly) but it is still a parent's responsibility to protect the child and to most that includes protection from violence and sex.

Maybe the ages are a little extreme these days (like someone under 18 not needing to be protected) but I think younger kids should. am i the only one thinking from the parents view?

Well no I didnt mean to say I actually would expose them to it. But it goes to the parents. Kinda sad the governments has to enforce restictions because most parents are lacking in supervision.

I believe this law should be for children under the age uf 13.  If you are older than 13, you should be able to distinguish fantasy from reality and be fine with playing a Grand Theft Auto game.

For intelligent people like you and me perhaps. Most of the n00bs in this forums are surprisingly over 13, and just look at how undeniably idiotic they are.

Well I can assure you that a gvernment won't think to exclude anyone from an under 13 rule.

I'm 21 right now and somehow I survived that awful time of persecution and strife that was my teen years, and somehow I think you all will as well.

It is sad that the government has to step in and take care of things that parents should be doing, but at the same time it might help parents be a little more aware.
