Chances are...if you are concerned about it. You already have a gamecube and a collection of games. Why not play those games on your gamecube and nxt gen games on that system? Is it really that hard to have two systems hooked up? ???

I dont know i think is better to have 2 system anyway but i think they do that so they can trade in the old one to bring down the price on the new

I assume you mean backwards compatibility with the Revolution, and I admit that doesn't mean much to me. But one of the reasons for the overall succes of the PS 2 was its huge library of games available at the start thanks to it being able to play ps 1. yes those that already have the older console wont care about the feature as much..but it was a very good move on sony's part and good thinking of nintendo to implement this in their new console.

It also may be attributed to the gameboy's success.
the only real competitors (before the PSP) were things like the Neo Geo Pocket which had a libray of about 30 games.

Most TV's (at least mine) only have two places for SCART connectors, and plugging those is a real pain in the ass. Also, having all controllers and other things of, say three or four different consoles, lying around is not very much fun either.

I have found the PS1 games compatibility of PS2 very handy. Thanks to that I only have three consoles scattered around instead of four. And when PS3 and Revolution come in to my house it would be really nice to be able to put GameCube in the closet. Otherwise I'll soon run out of space.

Yah, and the GAme Gear. Don't forget the game gear.

While PS2 has huge sucess implenting on the backwards compability, the first system to use this was the Atari 7800. Then of course, the Game Boy.

Heh, I just saw something on E3 live 2005 and the Microsoft guy said that the 360 will be compatible, "With our most popular titles".
Speculation is that it will not be completely backwards compatible but that you will be able to run SOME games, like Halo and Halo 2, on the 360 after downloading patches for each game.

A little sneaky how the guy said it WILL be backwards compatible and then attached the little blurb at the end, that not too many people heard cause they were cheering or something.

As for the game gear I don't think it was much competition. People saw the battery comsumption and backed away. The reason I stated the NGP is cause it was caable of backwards AND forwards compatibility (I'm speaking of course of the Neo Geo Pocket and the Neo Geo Pocket Color which both could play ALL Neo Geo Pocket and Color games).
